Google search result going to a page that I did not put on my site
-
Hi,
I am seeing a very strange result in google for my site. When doing a search for the term "london reflexology" my site comes up 18th in the results. But when I click the link or check the URL it shows up as: http://www.reflexologyonline.co.uk/reflexologyonline.php?Action=Webring
This is not right at all. It looks like some sort of cloaking but I am not sure. I am new to SEO and I do not know why goole is showing this URL that does not exist on my site and of witch the content is totally wrong.
Can anyone please help with this? See the 2 linked images for more details.
It seems to me the site might be hacked or something to that effect.
Please help....

Thank you Daylan, the 301 help instantly. Great suggestion.

Hi Jon,
Thank you for the answer. This is all very new to me so all the help I get is much appreciated. I can assure you I did not join a "webring". I think it must be a plugin I installed on the site.
I have to do everything myself as I am doing the SEO for my girlfriend's site. My budget is 0 so it is a DIY job. The only money I spend on it is for SEOMoz.
Thank you for the good advice. the problem is fixed now.

Hmm, it's an odd one. Is their anything in the root called refelxology.php? If so, check it out to see if that query is being pulled in from anywhere in particular.
Otherwise, a couple of things you could do to get rid of it.
- 301 the page to somewhere else. (perhaps 301 anything with the query ?Action=Webring
- Add it to your robots.txt file to not crawl.
- if reflexology.php does exist, add a canonical tag to it.
I know that doesn't answer why it's happening, but at least it will take care of the crappy result for your clients.

Don't panic, but it does look like you've been hacked. Using Yahoo! Site Explorer you can see where that page is linked from:
^ 34 links to your page, all from other pages that have "Action=Webring" in the url. If you've never heard of a webring before then here's a primer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Webring - but basically it's a shady SEO tactic (from around 2000), the idea being that if everyone in the Webring links to each other on their page then that will give SEO benefit to each page in the ring.
If you hadn't said you knew nothing of it then I would have assumed you'd signed up to such a scheme but if not then someone has planted that page there
Solution:
1. Log into your FTP and delete reflexologyonline.php
2. I can see from this link that you're using Wordpress: http://www.reflexologyonline.co.uk/wp-admin/ so upgrade to the latest version.
3. If you notice this problem comes back then it is likely one of Wordpress plugins you have installed that has a security issue. In that case you're best disabling everything not-essental, and updating the essential ones to the latest version.
Of course your SEO agency/web developer will be able to do this for you if you're not part of the tech squad - at least I know we'd do it for our client.
Any more questions, give me a reply.

Site:www.domainname.com - does not find homepage in Google (only inner pages - why?)
When I do a Google search on site:www.domainname.com, my clients homepage does not appear. Other inner pages do. The same thing happend a while ago and I did 'fetch by google' in Search Console. After that the homepage was indexed again when I did a site:www.domainname.com search. But now (2 weeks later), it's gone again. When I search on the brand name of the website in Google it does find the homepage. I don't know why it doesn't find the homepage when I do a site: search. Any ideas? Google Search Console - Sitemap
Hi all, Quick question. I'm trying to update my sitemap via Google Search Console using a sitemap.xml file that I've created with ScreamingFrog. However, when trying to submit it, it seems that Google only allows sitemaps that are located at a path within your domain (i.e. www.example.com/sitemap.xml) as opposed to being able to directly upload a sitemap.xml file.Is there any way that I can easily upload my sitemap.xml file? Or is there any easy way that I can upload the file to a path on my domain so I can upload via the URL?Any insight would be much appreciated!Best,Sung

How do you link your adaptive mobile site to Google Analytics?
With Google now saying they're putting a lot more emphasis on mobile sites, we recently got notifications from Google Webmaster Tools saying that some of our pages are not built for mobile. Some of these pages, however have an adaptive page that when you visit from a mobile phone (m.mysite.com), you're taken to instead of the desktop version. My question is, how do I let Google know that I have an adaptive site and not get penalized for poor mobile usability? I already have Google Analytics on the mobile site, I just need to somehow let Webmaster tools / Google's web crawlers know that they should be looking to my mobile site for usability, not the desktop site. Any advice is appreciated!

Google stopped crawling my site. Everybody is stumped.
This has stumped the Wordpress staff and people in the Google Webmasters forum. We are in Google News (have been for years), and so new posts are crawled immediately. On Feb 17-18 Crawl Stats dropped 85%, and new posts were no longer indexed (not appearing on News or search). Data highlighter attempts return "This URL could not be found in Google's index." No manual actions by Google. No changes to the website; no custom CSS. No Site Errors or new URL errors. No sitemap problems (resubmitting didn't help). We're on wordpress.com, so no odd code. We can see the robot.txt file. Other search engines can see us, as can social media websites. Older posts still index, but loss of News is a big hit. Also, I think overall Google referrals are dropping. We can Fetch the URL for a new post, and many hours later it appears on Google and News, and we can then use Data Highlighter. It's now 6 days and no recovery. Everybody is stumped. Any ideas? I just joined, so this might be the wrong venue. If so, apologies.

Have a client that migrated their site; went live with noindex/nofollow and for last two SEOMoz crawls only getting one page crawled. In contrast, G.A. is crawling all pages. Just wait?
Client site is 15 + pages. New site had noindex/nofollow removed prior to last two crawls.

Why is Google stripping/replacing my TITLE tag for the site with the BRAND Name only when looking at BRAND level search
When doing a search in Google (US Proxy) - Google is stripping and replacing my functional TITLE with the brand name only (say 'Nike'), but if you do a specific search term like ('buy nike shoes') and see a top 10 listing for my site's homepage, now the title works and shows correctly. I saw this a few years ago with another one of my company domains, but didn't ask the question as it worked out. Thanks for any insight.. NOTE: It's not damaging any results, or rankings for the site.. but: when searching for BRAND name of the company, like I explained, it's replacing a optimized title for the BRAND name, and then re-placing it naturally when deep search brings up the homepage and the TITLE looks fine.. Very weird at best! Thanks, Rob

Google and QnA sites
My website has a QnA site - a bit like this one except it's not private to premium members. It is a page with a left colomn for category links and it has a list of recently asked questions, each question is a link to view the full question and answers etc. Does google know this is a QnA ? Or will it say - hey, there are far too many links on this page, tut tut. Is there anything I can do to help it understand what the page is.
