Need to duplicate the index for Google in a way that's correct
-
Usually duplicated content is a brief to fix.
I find myself in a little predicament:
I have a network of career oriented websites in several countries. the problem is that for each country we use a "master" site that aggregates all ads working as a portal.
The smaller nisched sites have some of the same info as the "master" sites since it is relevant for that site. The "master" sites have naturally gained the index for the majority of these ads.
So the main issue is how to maintain the ads on the master sites and still make the nische sites content become indexed in a way that doesn't break Google guide lines.
I can of course fix this in various ways ranging from iframes(no index though) and bullet listing and small adjustments to the headers and titles on the content on the nisched sites, but it feels like I'm cheating if I'm going down that path.
So the question is: Have someone else stumbled upon a similar problem?
If so...? How did you fix it.

Indexation of ad-server code may prove tricky as often it will have a generic & dynamic make-up (i.e. JavaScript). It depends on how you set-up the code and ultimately how your engine will serve the code to end users.
What you are wanting to achieve is definitely possible through automation (whether via an ad-server or a custom script). The variable is just how the ad-server you use serves the listings. (You might like to try DoubleClick or OpenX first. Both are free).
Best of luck!

Thanks Anthony, I was going to try that approach from the start with a small script handling these listing thorugh an xml flow that's more easily controlled when it comes to layout. It seems like handling these listings as ads is the way forward.
Thnx!
Ps.
Do you think this will help the listings to become indexed on the smaller sites as well?

You say it's identical. So by definition, I assume it's the same piece of code calling the job listings being replicated across all the areas you want the listings to show?
You can use an ad-server for this purpose. It will give you a greater sense of control over impressions, not to mention offer you a greater insight into how effective they are in terms of clicks & engagement. The code should be a little lighter, too.

The problem is that its not common "ads" but joblistings that's running on several sites with identical format and url structure, these listings are all in an own database that we use to pull the listings from. So the thing is: I want them to be indexed since it would drive a lot of longtail traffic to the nisched sites.
I've never used Doubleclick but know how it works. If this is a problem that's possible to solve by using an ad server please let me know

Can you not just put your ads in an ad server such as DoubleClick and run an include across the entire network, or am I missing something here?

Password Protected Page(s) Indexed
Hi, I am wondering if my website can get a penalty if some password protected pages are showing up when I search on google: site:www.example.com/sub-group/pass-word-protected-page That shows that my password protected page was indexed either before or after adding the password protection. I've seen people suggest no indexing the page. Is that the best method to take care of this? What if we are planning on pushing the page live later on? All of these pages have no title tag, meta description, image alt text, etc. Should I add them for each page? I am wondering what is the best step, especially if we are planning on pushing the page(s) live. Thanks for any help!

Development site is live (and has indexed) alongside live site - what's the best course of action?
Hello Mozzers, I am undertaking a site audit and have just noticed that the developer has left the development site up and it has indexed. They 301d from pages on old site to equivalent pages on new site but seem to have allowed the development site to index, and they haven't switched off the development site. So would the best option be to redirect the development site pages to the homepage of the new site (there is no PR on dev site and there are no links incoming to dev site, so nothing much to lose...)? Or should I request equivalent to equivalent page redirection? Alternatively I can simply ask for the dev site to be switched off and the URLs removed via WMT, I guess... Thanks in advance for your help! 🙂

Why my site it's not being indexed?
Hello.... I got to tell that I feel like a newbie (I am, but know I feel like it)... We were working with a client until january this year, they kept going on their own until september that they contacted us again... Someone on the team that handled things while we were gone, updated it´s robots.txt file to Disallow everything... for maybe 3 weeks before we were back in.... Additionally they were working on a different subdomain, the new version of the site and of course the didn't block the robots on that one. So now the whole site it's been duplicated, even it´s content, the exact same pages exist on the suddomain that was public the same time the other one was blocked. We came in changes the robots.txt file on both server, resend all the sitemaps, sent our URL on google+... everything the book says... but the site it´s not getting indexed. It's been 5 weeks now and no response what so ever. We were highly positioned on several important keywords and now it's gone. I now you guys can help, any advice will be highly appreciated. thanks Dan

Does Google crawl the pages which are generated via the site's search box queries?
For example, if I search for an 'x' item in a site's search box and if the site displays a list of results based on the query, would that page be crawled? I am asking this question because this would be a URL that is non existent on the site and hence am confused as to whether Google bots would be able to find it.
