Root or subfolder campaign for e-commerce
-
Hi there,
New to Moz and have just signed up to the pro package.
I run a menswear website in the UK, and I want to start a campaign looking at 1 or 2 brands (Money Clothing and Cruyff Trainers).
What I would like to know is, when starting a campaign for say Money Clothing, should I use my root domain www.designerboutique-online.com/ or should I use my Money Clothing domain (www.designerboutique-online.com/all-clothing/money-clothing/ ?
Then once I do this, do I use my competitors subfolder pages or do I use their root domain? I tried to use 1 competitor as a subfolder and I think it gave an error saying I cannot use / after the domain?
Any help on what would be the best approach for me to begin targeting my specific brands and how to compare them against my competitors.
Cheers

Cheers.
I have started a campaign for a subfolder www.designerboutique-online.com/all-clothing/money-clothing/
and
a subdomain www.designerboutique-online.com, should I have chosen root here for designerboutique-online.com?
Cheers

I would campaign on both I guess. You want to build your main brand while also increasing awareness on the brands you carry.
In SEOmoz you can enter the root, but you whole site will be tracked. Once you decide what keywords you are trying to rank on, keep your eye on what page is being ranked an go from there. So... if you track the keyword "cruffy" - and you rank in the top 50... see what page that is ranking. Maybe it is your homepage, or a category page, or even a specific product page.
I would concentrate the categories to promote those specific brands. However, don't ignore you homepage and remember to build your site name up as well.
So... get your site set up... in a good logical simple structure. Then have SEOmoz crawl it and fix any errors and consider their suggestions. Enter the words you are trying to rank on and see how you do. Make adjustment to try and improve ranking.
Anyway... SEOmoz will crawl your entire site including all folders. You will have to track sub-domains separately but not sub folders.

I agree about the /all-clothing/ part, and is something I am working on getting changed. I never set it up like this, a web design company did.
All my subfolders come off the root domain (i.e designerboutique-online.com/all-clothing/cruyff-trainers/ which is a brand of trainers we sell.
Do you therefore think it is the wrong type of campaign to look at subfolders? I only chose a subfolder because it is a brand we will be targeting.
Would it be more beneficial to campaign on my root domain first? Does this include sub folders when doing the analysis?
Basically what I want to know is how to I use SEOmoz Pro for my e-commerce site, what tips, guides etc... do you have?
My SEO campaigns will be targeting 2 brands, money clothing and cruyff trainers, within each category I want to be optimising models of each brand, eg. money jeans, money t-shirts, cruyff vanenburg trainers, cruyff boxtoe trainers.
How best is it to go about it?
Cheers

If you also care about the branding of your root domain (store name) you would want to use your root domain and sub folders off that. If you add more brands and make separate domains for each you'll find yourself managing multiple websites.
As for using the competitor analysis tool in SEOmoz, you can only use the root domain - www.competitor.com.
Also if you can take the "all clothing" layer out... that would be beneficial to your SEO.
Hope this helps.

Creating a campaign and connecting it to Google Analytics
I want to create three campaigns in Moz and connect them to my Google Analytics account. However, two of the domains I am trying to create campaigns for are joined in Google Analytics. Do I need to separate the two in Google in order to create separate campaigns for each in Moz?

Problems with Crawl Diagnostics/New Campaign
Hi all I added a new domain to my campaigns yesterday and got the usual message saying we will have a small set of results ready in a couple of hours, and the rest will be done in a week or so. 24 hours later, this same message is still showing. Anyone else experiencing this or is it just related to my domain? Many thanks. Carl

Sharing/Transferring SEOMOZ campaigns
What happens when you are no longer working on a campaign, and your client needs the campaign history? I don't pay for my account, my employer does. If I ever have to move on what should I do with the account? I would want to keep my seomoz profile and Q&A history. But the campaigns belong to my employer so I would have to change all of the profile settings into his name… Is there a protocol for this kind of situation?

Limit of 3 competitors per campaign
Hello, Can I just check why the number of competitors per campaign is limited to 3? ie. We have up to 20 URLs we want to monitor for the same keywords as us. I understand I can add another campaign to track another 4x URLs, but this will not show those in relation to our main URL/campaign. We would prefer to have space for 12 competitors rather than 12 campaigns. If we upgrade to Elite is the number increased? Might be missing something here, as we are new to SEOMoz, so grateful for any advice. SEOMoz is really great, we have learned so much already. Rich

Campaign 4XX error gives duplicate page URL
I ran the report for my site and had many more 4xx errors than I've had in the past month. I updated my .htaccess to include 301 statements based on Google Webmaster Tools Crawl Errors. Google has been reporting a positive downward trend in my errors, but my SEOmoz campaign has shown a dramatic increase in the 4xx pages. Here is an example of an 4xx URL page: http://www.maximphotostudio.net/engagements/266/inniswood_park_engagements/http:%2F%2Fwww.maximphotostudio.net%2Fengagements%2F266%2Finniswood_park_engagements%2F This is strange because URL: http://www.maximphotostudio.net/engagements/266/inniswood_park_engagements/ is valid and works great, but then there is a duplicate entry with %2F representing forward slashes and 2 http statements in each link. What is the reason for this?

SEOMoz Campaign Tool
I've noticed that when looking at the SEOmoz tool, specifically the On Page analysis tool, it is still looking at an old url. About two months ago I made updates to all of our category page URLs. Previously the old urls were stuffed with keywords, strange characters and were really long. When looking at the on-page tool though it is referencing the old urls for keywords and I'm wondering why? I figure its been long enough to recognize the new urls. Is the paring of a keyword and a url saved and just graded on a weekly basis to produce the report? I had expected to see the new url's by now which are also represented in the sitemap. Around that same time I also added our TellAFriend Page and Review pages to our Robots.txt file as not to be crawled but I still see these pages come up in the errors report. Should this update as well?
