Am I doing the correct thing?
-
Hi,
I am trying to increase our sites number of backlinks. It has been badly managed in the past so I am trying to fix it.
What I am doing is using Google, Twitter, Facebook and competitor sites to find a whole load of fashion blogs (we sell mens clothing). I am then making contact with the relevant site people to ask them if we can get one of our articles published on their site.
In return we will offer to promote their blog through our facebook/twitter pages and include the blog link as a recommended link within our weekly newsletters. We have over 2800+ friends on Facebook/Twitter and a newsletter that goes out to over 3000+ customers.
Some have accepted and published an article that I wrote around 1-2 brands (eg. their background, their products etc..) Within that article was maybe 300-400 words and about 3-4 links to products on our site. Each article is unique, so no duplicate content is being published by us.
Would it be worth putting their link on our site from a SEO point of view? Or is the link on their site only the best way to do it?
Also as alot of our customer is men, would it be worth moving from the fashion blogs and maybe getting our articles in some football (soccer) blogs, as they are a big part of our fan base and as such are relevant to us.
Let me know your thoughts and any help.
Thanks
Will

While there are generally a number of different ways to do the same thing, you are definitely doing things right. Its a lot of hard work as I am sure you know, but in the long run and over time you will see benefits from your efforts.
Regarding having links of others on your site. You bet, there is definitely some benefit to having some outgoing links. Keep up the good work!

Hi Will,
You're doing the right thing my getting guest posts on blogs that are relevant to your topic. Regarding your last question, it would make sense to diversify across soccer blogs and other areas that you can contribute good and relevant posts. It's probably quite easy to relate fashion to a wide range of different areas and as long as you're creating content that seems relevant to your topic and the blog you're posting on, then go for it!
Regarding putting the blogs' link on your site.. You may want to do this occassionally if you find something really good and relevant to you that you want to link to, but I wouldn't do it very much; every external link you add on your site is reducing the amount of link juice that flows internally around your site. Also if you do it to blogs here and there, google might see this as some sort of link exchange scheme, which is not something you want.

My affiliate links are being crawled by Google. Is this a bad thing? Also, should I add rel: nofollow to affiliate links?
Hi All, I have an issue on Google Search Console. It seems all my affiliate links are being crawled. Is this a bad thing? The reason I found out is that all but one link was flagged with a warming. It goes on to say that it was blocked by robots.txt. The strange thing is that I've not set any links to be blocked in robots.txt. Also, should affiliate links be nofollow? I'm asking because I was recently sent this article by Yoast on how to properly cloak my affiliate links without using a plugin. https://yoast.com/cloak-affiliate-links/ In the method, they apply the nofollow and noindex rules to the links. I'm just a little confused on how to go about affiliate links the SEO friendly way.

Spent months creating links but Webmasters not picking it up
Hey Guys, I've been working on Blast My Deals.com an affiliate site which i have an issue hoping you guys can help with. For the past year and a half we created loads of links from multiple domains at-least over 700+ which Webmasters did pick up since then we've created even more links however when we go in to our Search Console "Links to your site" it shows 214 domains. It seems like our old links are being removed and our new links aren't being added. All the links we created have an average of DA40+ For the past 2 weeks ive noticed a significant drop in organic traffic and loosing our positions on our main keywords. Our DA has also dropped from 33 to 29 in a matter of 2 weeks. I checked everything including robots.txt, sitemap.xml but Im unable to find the reason for it.

Before I request hundreds of links for "nofollow" I want to verify I'm doing the right thing
Happy Thanksgiving Mozers, In my efforts to get rid of a Google penalty, I've come to the conclusion that all the travel agents who link to our site with a unique code, are technically affiliates because they get commission. Therefore we need to get all of them to switch their links to "rel=nofollow". I'm worried this shift will cost us in search rankings, especially since none of our competitors require nofollow tags. So before I actually begin requiring the switch, I wanted to just double check that I'm not misinterpreting Google. Our travel agents are paid commission on every sale (whether their customers click the link from their website to ours, or calls in and gives us that agent's code. So even though our travel agents aren't technically part of an "affiliate program" run through CJ or anything, they are in Google's eyes affiliates of my company. Therefore their links with their personal codes all need to be nofollow. Am I correct on this? I can't find anywhere where Google goes into great depth explaining various types of affiliates.

What are your biggest focuses for Internet Marketing in 2012? New Year's Goal?
We have seen a lot of shifting and movement in the search engines as of late. So I am curious as to what people are setting their sights on for 2012. And perhaps a top 3 would be appreciated. This is Internet Marketing goals, therefore SEO, Social Media, PPC, all count. Link Building? Schema.org? Facebook optimization? And try to be a little more specific like URL rewrites instead of just On-Site SEO.
