Ranking better
-
Hello there,
I am after some specific guidance on how to rank well for the keyword ‘Translation Services’. I have managed to get the site www.pstranslation.co.uk to page 2 of google UK for this key term. The difficulty is I seem to have run out of steam now on how to get higher rankings. After spending a considerable amount of time creating content and gaining links I managed to get the site from around page 15 on google uk to page 4 then to page 2. That’s where it seems to have stopped. I (think I) have got the onsite SEO pretty well nailed. I have got some good linkable content (http://www.pstranslation.co.uk/infog_languages.html,http://www.pstranslation.co.uk/language_resources_indus.html) and have plans to produce a more.
Experience working within the language industry tells me that a top 3 position on page 1 for this keyword can very lucrative so my main focus of SEO is to rank well for this key phrase.
There is a very good chance you reply will simply be get more (better) links and if it is that’s fine but is there anything else I can do? Am I missing a very obvious trick anywhere?
Looking forward to your reply.

Thnak you all for your insights. I've learned a lot!

I would first say that you should consider other keywords including some "long-tail" keywords. While these do not have quite as high of volume, they are generally not as competitive, and can tend to be highly profitable since the more established companies typically go after the largest volume keywords.
Through optimizing for the longer tail keywords, you will build more domain authority for your site, which I can tell is something you could benefit from doing. At DA32, you have room to grow. You're also not far off from your competitor, languageconnect.net, in that regard.

What did you use for scanning him?

Not really MORE, but a better mix of backlinks may help shift from page 2 to page 1 also, wouldn't you think?
-
do you have access to Microsofy SEO toolket?
I found 646 errors or warning scaning your site. Dont be too alaremed as very few sites pass, in fact i have found none that pass. If you have iis7 yoiu can instal it for free. if not i can send you the report.I would fix these first. Your efforts are discounted while these problems are not fixed. its a bit like fishing with holes in your net.

Hi.
I think there are a few things you can look at that should help with this specific keyword. Please note that anytime you focus on one specific keyword you could be jeopardising traffic from other keywords. Having said that there are a few things I would look at if my focus was only on that keyword.
Firstly, I would look at updating the title tag slightly. You currently have Language Translation Services | Translation Company, UK. It tends to help having your main keyword as the first thing in a title tag. It would be relatively easy and still very natural to re-write the title tag to remove language as the first phrase and start with translation services.
Secondly, and in my opinion more importantly I would look at adding some textual content to the homepage. It is the homepage that is ranking on the 2nd page for the keyword, yet there is very little content mentioning the phrase. It is only mentioned in anchor text or in very sort snippets of text. I would look at writing some content explaining what your translation services offer and what your unique selling point is. You should avoid write the content with your users in mind and not worry at all about the search engines. Doing this you will naturally make use of the keywords required.
With those changes in place I believe you will be in a better position to rank for the keyword however I think you will need to continue building good quality links. If you compare your site with language connect (who I see in 9th) you'll see there is still a way to go based on these metrics.
(I've ignored babelfish in 10th, because they aren't a good comparison, in that they aren't a direct competitor except for in the SERPS).

The interesting metric in my eyes is the difference in linking root domains, which is thought of as a strong indicator for rankings. One word of warning, from what I see almost all your links are going to your homepage. Its natural for a large percentage of links to point to the homepage however to hardly have any external links to your internal pages could look suspicious.
Good Luck

Why is my MOZ ranking better but my ranking worse
last week, I made all the recommended changes for my client's website, and our grade according to MOZ got better, but our rankings dropped?

Rankings go up and down, up and down, up and down
Almost every week we have more than a two dozen keywords that will all suddenly increase in rank only to then decrease in rank right back to where they were the previous week. This happens constantly despite the fact that we are doing very little SEO-wise on a week-to-week basis. What might be causing these constant shifts?

Losing Rankings & Need Help
Hi Guys, I am not sure if anyone else is suffering from the July 4, 2013 update. I know many of us are awaiting to see what happens once the dust settles. I have a couple of issues/questions/statements below. This is the first time any Google update has every affected me negatively and I'd love some ideas or input. 1. I have ranked quite well for nearly 10 years for all my top keywords. Now, after this update, I am disappearing for my top keywords in the SERPS - definitely getting pushed to page two, etc. Can anyone help me discover the reasons? I have a great SEO expert helping me and I know quite a bit, but this has me baffled. My website is Journey Beyond Travel.com I have read MOZ's ranking factors for 2013 and also the recently published report from SearchMetrics. In the last few days, I've added more quality text to the homepage and shortened my page title on the homepage (although Google has been changing my homepage browser title to put my brand name first in the title - and they haven't for my competitors). Over the past few months, I've really cleaned up my link profile to the best of my ability. I've never really taken part in any negative or black-hat practices. I am trying to get more links that use my 'brand' name rather than exact anchor text. I believe I have a natural profile - any thoughts? 2. One thing I notice is the higher ranking of larger brands now (at least in my field). Just because a domain with higher authority creates one page of content, how can that outrank me? I mean, I've got ten years and 600+ darn good articles of content on my website. How can one domain that is very 'general' (for example, well known in the world of travel and not specialized or niche like mine) outrank me? How can it be that Google allows larger brands to outrank smaller ones just because they have more backlinks and domain authority, but no real content to support these pages? Is content truly king? I am thinking about an article: "Google, Brands, and the Death of Small Business Online." Anyone wish to collaborate here? I am not being hatelful or resentful, but I foresee the day when an 'alternative' search engine emerges, doesn't allow crap ads, allows users more flexibility, and brings search to the next level. Not all of us want the big brands and are searching for alternatives that stand out. I ignore them when I am searching mostly. Any thoughts or elaborations? Thanks!

How can i export a historical ranking report which contains keywords with special characters.
How can i export a historical ranking report which contains keywords with special characters? Previously it only turned the keywords into jumbled format (forgot the tech term) in excel i.e. онлайн чат which are in this case russian characters. The way i got around this was to import it into google docs but that also is now converting it into this format. Due to this i 1 do not know what the keywords are and 2 all my formulas do not work.

Rankings w/ Geographic Bias
I'm looking for a way to see the right rankings with geographic bias in mind. As an example, is there a way to indicate to SEOMoz to pull Google Rankings for San Francisco. The most narrow I can get is by country which won't work for several clients. I know Linkdex does this but would love to know if SEOMoz has a similar capability? If not, does anyone know of another company besides Linkdex?

Local Flower Shop Needing Better Rankings Fast??
We run a family-owned flower shop that used to be #1-5 in several areas in Google a couple years ago. Now it seemed with all of the Panda, Penguin and other updates in Google that we have become almost Non-existent online. We used old Link-building tactics that are no longer good like before. We have a regular Wordpress Site/Landing Page and an Ecommerce website. The Landing Page used to rank first page all the time (now it's not ranked) and now the Ecommerce site shows up more often. But still nowhere where we need to be. We just need to get ranked on Google Places and/or first page in Google again. Please assist with strategies, systems or ideas?? Thank you, Luke

Bing Not Complete in Ranking Report
Curious as to what the "FRI" image means under Bing on my Keyword Ranking reports? I saw this on Friday and assumed it hadn't crawled yet (as it was to set to crawl on Friday Jan 27, 2012) but here we are Monday AM and I'm still seeing the same thing. Glf4F.jpg
