Php to html - change in extension
-
Hello, What is the code to redirect all the pages of a site from .php to .html extension? Thanks
-
I agree with you not to use any extension and will be looking for a code for this purpose.
-
Hello Zachary,
Where should i enter the line mentioned by you ? After the code provided by Daniel ?
Will it redirect all the external links ?
-
Thanks a lot daniel for your advice.
-
I'd suggest that if you can to not use any extension in the displayed URLs. That way the next time you change languages the URL won't change. As an example, see the SEOmoz URLs -- it's just http://www.seomoz.org/q/php-to-html-change-in-extension with no extension.
I don't know the code offhand for that, but I'm sure others can help you out with that.

Atul,
You definitely don't need to contact webmasters to change any links.
There is a 301 redirect flag you can apply to your rewrite rule:
RewriteRule ^(.*).html$ $1.php [R=301,L]
Do a 301 redirect test to confirm. Best of luck!

1. Yes since the code I gave you will rewrite the extension of every single page FROM php to html. From html to php would mean the same thing, since a link pointing to products.php would no longer work. The rewrite only rewrites the extensions and not the links.
2. Yes contacting the webmasters and changing the links would be better than doing 301 redirects of all your pages.
I advise to test this on a testing server first, especially if your site has a lot of pages.

Thanks Daniel.
"Remember you'll need to make sure to change all the links on your site, and all external links too."
1. Do you mean i will have to manually change all the internal links on the site ?
Shall i have to do this in the reverse case too ? For example changing html to php ?
2. For external links, should i contact the webmasters of the site linking to me ?
-
Add into your htaccess file :
RewriteEngine on
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^(.*).html$ $1.php [L]Remember you'll need to make sure to change all the links on your site, and all external links too.
The only other way around changing all the links would be to do 301 redirects for each URL which is, in my opinion not really worth all the work involved since .php and .html should both rank equally in Google and other search engines.

Does a GTLD extension 'count' as part of the target keyword?
Hopefully someone can shed some light on this for me. Reading about GTLDs, I came across this quote from TSO Host: 'What we don’t know is whether an extension can double up as a keyword, which is picked up by Google and treated identically to the rest of a domain name. I.e. - would ‘bristolguitars.music’ have more ranking potential than ‘bristolguitars.com’ as ‘music’ is a relevant search word?' Source: https://www.tsohost.com/blog/how-do-new-gtlds-affect-seo Does anyone know if a GTLD extension does double up as a keyword? For example, if Nike buys 'Nike.shoes', does this double as the keyword 'Nike shoes', or is Google and other search engines just looking at the domain name _before _the GTLD extension? I'm looking at .photography for examples (not my niche) and seeing folks are having mixed results ranking for 'Keyword + Photography', so would be keen to hear your thoughts.

Hiding Price html component for all countries except US
Hello everybody, We are planning to have a new website soon, which will be an E-Commerce website for people from the US, and non E-Commerce website for people from other countries. In other words, in the poduct pages, we would like to have the price of the product shown to the users from the US, and on the other hand we would like it to be invisible for users outside of the US. We thought about setting the html elelment of the price to be visible only for US users (by ip). My question is - can Google crawler see this as potential cloacking, since we hide some of the content to some of the users (while google might scan it from US iip address)? Thanks in advance...

WMT Change of address when moving to subdir
A client is moving their site that has had its own domain for years to their main domain under a subdir. So, product.com is going to brand.com/product with all pages and paths staying the same, no content is being removed. We have 301 the old domain to brand.com/product however, should we also submit a change of address in Google's WMT? The reason I ask is because the site wont be located at brand.com but at brand.com/product and do not want to confuse Google, as the 301 redirects will not match the change of address exactly.

Htaccess code to 301 redirect a folder change
Hi, I need some help to redirect all my site as there was a folder change. eg, the old structure was www.mysite.com/stuff-1/bags.html and I need it to go to the same structure without the "-1" eg: /stuff/bags.html

The "bags.html" will be lots of different products, so this would be a wildcard? What would the htaccess code need to be? Thanks0 -
How can I find my Webmaster Tools HTML file?
So, totally amateur hour here, but I can't for the life of me find our HTML verification file for webmaster tools. I see nowhere to look at it in Google Webmaster Tools console, I tried a site:, I googled it, all the info out there is about how to verify a site. Ours is verified, but I need the verification file code to sync up with the Google API and no one seems to have it. Any thoughts?

Is it bad to have your pages as .php pages?
Hello everyone, Is it bad to have your website pages indexed as .php? For example, the contact page is site.com/contact.php and not /contact. Does this affect your SEO rankings in any way? Is it better to have your pages without the extension? Also, if I'm working with a news site and the urls are dynamic for every article (ie site.com/articleid=2323.) Should I change all of those dynamic urls to static? Thank You.

Once we make changes to our site is there a way to force the engines to re-crawl it faster?
After we implement canonicals URLs, or make some other significant change to our site that is going to impact our SEO, is there a way to force Google or other search engines to re-index us faster? Would manually re-submitting a sitemap do this?
