How to increase the crawl rate?
-
hello,
Our site was hosted in North America and Google was crawling it reasonably fast. Since our traffic is mostly from India we moved it to India, now the crawling is terribly slow from Google. Is there anyway to fix the crawl rate(we have increased the crawl rate in GWT)
-
We have already done that in Webmaster tools but there is no change in the indexing rate. We would like to know if the hosting change from US to India is affecting us and if yes is there a way to fix it.

You can change crawl rate in Webmaster tools:

Good luck!

Log files vs. GWT: major discrepancy in number of pages crawled
Following up on this post, I did a pretty deep dive on our log files using Web Log Explorer. Several things have come to light, but one of the issues I've spotted is the vast difference between the number of pages crawled by the Googlebot according to our log files versus the number of pages indexed in GWT. Consider: Number of pages crawled per log files: 2993 Crawl frequency (i.e. number of times those pages were crawled): 61438 Number of pages indexed by GWT: 17,182,818 (yes, that's right - more than 17 million pages) We have a bunch of XML sitemaps (around 350) that are linked on the main sitemap.xml page; these pages have been crawled fairly frequently, and I think this is where a lot of links have been indexed. Even so, would that explain why we have relatively few pages crawled according to the logs but so many more indexed by Google?

Big Increase in 404 Errors after Google Custom Search Engine Install on Website
My URL is: http://www.furniturefashion.comHi forum.I recently installed a Custom Google Search Engine (https://www.google.com/cse/) on my blog about ten days ago. Since then my 404 errors in Webmaster Tools has skyrocketed by several thousand. I had not had an issue before. Once it was installed the 404 errors started appearing. What's interesting is that all the errors have the URL then the word "undefined" at the end. I have attached a screen shot from my Webmaster Tools dashboard. Also, there are a few examples below of what the URLs are that have the 404 errors.wood_closet_organizer_to_improve_space_utilization/undefinedsmall-sweet-10-inspiring-small-kitchen-designs/undefined Has anyone had this issue? I very much want the search engine on my site, but not at the expense of several thousand 404 errors. My site queries has been going down since the installation of the custom search engine. Here is some of the code that I have below that I took off my site doing a "view source". Any help would be greatly appreciated.href='http://cdn.furniturefashion.com/wp-content/plugins/google-custom-search/css/smoothness/jquery-ui-1.7.3.custom.css?ver=3.9.2' type='text/css' media='all' />rel='stylesheet' id='gsc_style_search_bar-css' href='http://www.google.com/cse/style/look/minimalist.css?ver=3.9.2' type='text/css' media='all' />rel='stylesheet' id='gsc_style_search_bar_more-css' href='http://cdn.furniturefashion.com/wp-content/plugins/google-custom-search/css/gsc.css?ver=3.9.2' type='text/css' media='all' />< uXRSEkC

GWT False Reporting or GoogleBot has weird crawling ability?
Hi I hope someone can help me. I have launched a new website and trying hard to make everything perfect. I have been using Google Webmaster Tools (GWT) to ensure everything is as it should be but the crawl errors being reported do not match my site. I mark them as fixed and then check again the next day and it reports the same or similar errors again the next day. Example: http://www.mydomain.com/category/article/ (this would be a correct structure for the site). GWT reports: http://www.mydomain.com/category/article/category/article/ 404 (It does not exist, never has and never will) I have been to the pages listed to be linking to this page and it does not have the links in this manner. I have checked the page source code and all links from the given pages are correct structure and it is impossible to replicate this type of crawl. This happens accross most of the site, I have a few hundred pages all ending in a trailing slash and most pages of the site are reported in this manner making it look like I have close to 1000, 404 errors when I am not able to replicate this crawl using many different methods. The site is using a htacess file with redirects and a rewrite condition. Rewrite Condition: Need to redirect when no trailing slash RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
Technical SEO | | baldnut
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !.(html|shtml)$
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !(.)/$
RewriteRule ^(.)$ /$1/ [L,R=301] The above condition forces the trailing slash on folders. Then we are using redirects in this manner: Redirect 301 /article.html http://www.domain.com/article/ In addition to the above we had a development site whilst I was building the new site which was http://dev.slimandsave.co.uk now this had been spidered without my knowledge until it was too late. So when I put the site live I left the development domain in place (http://dev.domain.com) and redirected it like so: <ifmodule mod_rewrite.c="">RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule ^ - [E=protossl]
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} on
RewriteRule ^ - [E=protossl:s] RewriteRule ^ http%{ENV:protossl}://www.domain.com%{REQUEST_URI} [L,R=301]</ifmodule> Is there anything that I have done that would cause this type of redirect 'loop' ? Any help greatly appreciated.\0 -

How is my competition causing bad crawl errors and links on my site
We have a compeditor who we are in a legal dispute at the moment, and they are using under hand tactics to cause us to have bad links and crawl errors and i do not know how they are doing it or how to stop it. The crawl errors we are getting is the site having two urls together, for example www.testsite.com/www.testsite.com and other errors are pages that we do not even have or pages that are spelt wrong or have a dot after the page name. We have been told off a number of people in our field that this has also happened to them and i would like to know how they are doing it so we can have this stopped Since they have been doing this our traffic has gone down by half

Crawl Tool Producing Random URL's
For some reason SEOmoz's crawl tool is returning duplicate content URL's that don't exist on my website. It is returning pages like "mydomain.com/pages/pages/pages/pages/pages/pricing" Nothing like that exists as a URL on my website. Has anyone experienced something similar to this, know what's causing it, or know how I can fix it?
