Subdomain Setting in MozBar
-
I'm using the MozBar on FF6 and have a question about the selector next to "Root Domain" When I set it to "Subdomain", I notice that DmR and DmT are different from the root domain.
Am I looking at DmR and DmT for all subdomains (www included)?

Hi Wayne,
When you choose Root Domain, you get three results DA (Domain Authority) DmR (Domain mozRank) and Dmt (Domain mozTrust) for the entire domain.
When you set it to Subdomain, you get only DmR and DmT for the active subdomain. For example, if the URL in the address bar is www.yourdomain.com, then the DmR and DmT are for the www subdomain only. If the URL is another.yourdomain.com, then the DmR and DmT are for the another subdomain only etc.
You can check this by setting your MozBar to "Root Domain" and going to http://googleblog.blogspot.com/.
Once the page is loaded, change the MozBar setting to "Subdomain" and you will see the results change. Then, replace googleblog with www and you will actually see the results change and change again as the page redirects to yet another subdomain.
kinda fun actually
Hope that helps,
Sha

How to set up internal linking with subcategories?
I'm building a new website and am setting up internal link structure with subcategories and hoping to do so with best Seo practices in mind. When linking to a subcategory's main page, would I make the internal link www.xxx.com/fishing/ or www.xxx.com/fishing/index.html or does it matter? I'm just trying to avoid duplicate content I guess, if Google saw each page as a separate page. Any other cautions when using subdirectories in my navigation?

Rankings of Subdomains vs. Main Domain
Here's a puzzler... Our main domain (www.ides.com) doesn't appear in Google (but does on Bing and other engines). We think this is due to duplicate content which we're fixing. However our website's subdomains continue to appear prominently in SERPs, even on Google - here are some examples: IDES Prospector = prospector.ides.com IDES = Â support.ides.com Cycolac FR15Â = catalog.ides.com Why would Google penalize a main domain and its subdomains?

Subdomains Issue
Hi , We have created  sub domains of our site to target various Geo´s. For example,  geo, uk.site.com, de.site, com and all these sub domains have the same content as main domain.  Will it affect our SEO Rankings? How can we solve this if it affects our rankings?

Do knowledge base plugins on a subdomain have seo benefit?
Hi SEO Moz, We want to use a knowledge base plugin (cheaper & faster than building it ourselves) where we can have Q&As for our website. We want this to help with our SEO by adding in our keyterms that we want to rank for. We've looked into TenderApp & Get Satisfaction which look like good solutions - however, as they're both on a sub-domain do we get any seo benefit from this? When people link to our knowledge base, will this help our website at all - or is the benefit going to go to TenderApp/Get Satisfaction? For instance - Our website URL is http://widget.products.com The KB URL is http://widgetsupport.products.com If the above plugin is not a good solution, is there anything else that is better? Any help will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks.

MozBar picking up iFrame source as URL
Running a WordPress site with a custom theme. Using a standard wp_head or wp_footer hook to insert the standard code for a Facebook Like, Twitter count / Google Plus count into the site - basically that hook just places the code, programmatically, into the HEAD (where applicable) or right before the BODY closes. For some reason, MozBar is picking up the URL of the iFrame that gets inserted with this code as the URL of the site. I don't have it live right now due to the issues, but I can turn it "on" for anyone who wants a look. Anyone else have this issue? I'm using the code directly from developers.facebook.com for the Like box, and the Google Plus button, Twitter too. Nothing fancy here.

Page Analysis Difference Between Root and Subdomain
I have a site where the canonical version is the subdomain www, with a permanent redirect to ensure this is so. When I do a page analysis from the MozBar for the domain I see that www and *.domain are both displayed, with numbers from *.domain being shown by default in the mozbar. Does MozBar show *.domain numbers by default, and do I correctly understand that the (higher) www numbers displayed in page analysis for www are valid and a result of my canonical strategy?

What are the SEO related negative aspects of having a blog on a subdomain?
Just double checking this one. Is it less than ideal to have a blog on a subdomain rather than as a sub folder on a domain?
