I've noted the total number of links has dropped drastically on multiple reports. Is there something new in the Competitive Domain Report or is it really just my clients? Also I've noticed that all of my clients have seen slight decreases in MozTrust - is this related to your reports analysis of panda?

What you're seeing may be related to last week's Linkscape update. Rand has a blog post about it over at http://www.seomoz.org/blog/linkscape-september-update-feedback. Take a look at it and see if that answers your questions, and post any follow up you have here. Thanks!

Should I disavow links from Dead Domains?

Have a new client who hired a fly-by-night backlinking company. They made 500 links from directories and 160 of these are on domains that have been deleted. So should I inlcude the 160 dead links in my disavow?

Puzzled by high ranking page (#2 in SERPs) with zero/low page or domain authority

So, I get the smoothie that is page authority and domain authority and the link metrics that Moz uses to predict how well a page will rank for a certain keyword. I can look at a specific search term where we are on say, page 2 or 3, with a page authority of 1 and domain authority of 26, I get why competitors rank above us. But then I look at a keyword that is much more competitive, where we rank #2, which is awesome, where the landing page is also showing a page authority of 1, and domain authority of 26. How can we rank higher than competitors with a page authority of 56 and domain authority of 65? Their onpage optimization for the keyword is no worse, and sometimes better that ours but we maintain this ranking. By the way the competition also have hundreds if not thousands more linking root domains than our page. Any ideas why one keyword is a rockstar and one is a dud, with the same poor PA and DA?

How Effective Are Links Between The Same Company's Websites With Different Domain Extensions?

Morning! The main competitor of an eCommerce site I'm working on has a total of 31 sites for 31 different countries. Each one of these sites has a different domain extension (.com, .co.uk, .fr, .it etc.), and every single one of these sites' pages links to all the other homepages through a dropdown menu on the navigation bar. When I pop the .co.uk URL (our main competitor) into Open Site Explorer, I'm advised they have a 45,079 links from 475 domains. If I look at 'just discovered' links, most are from their own sites - I guess MOZ picks these up every time a new page is created. Now, these guys are huge in the UK. They rank in the top 10 for pretty much every single search term and, to put it into some kind of perspective, their Search Metrics score is 33,000 compared to our measly 160! Don't get me wrong, they do get some decent links from authoritative sites, but it seem most of their links are from their own sites. How does Google view these? Does my competitor have these thousands of 'internal' backlinks to thank for their current position? I've just checked their .kr URL and this has 12.5 million(!) links from just 450 domains. Do every single one of these links pass equity? Or does Google just look at one from each domain? Thanks, Lewis

Domain and page backlinks

Hello Everyone, I am new at SEO, and I am a bit confused with the following situation: I have domain, wordpress site on it, and I am building backlinks to it (testing). I do not have "home" page among pages in wordpress, if it means anything. When I build links, i use different anchor texts, but they all point to http://somethingsomething.net -Ahrefs shows that I have 830 backlinks from 45 domains, to my URL, which is http://somethingsomething.net (it is also my site's home page address) -MOZ;s Open site explorer, on the other hand, shows the following: 8 internal links and 0 external links for page specific metrics, and 878 total links 0 external for root domain metrics. -Google Webmaster tools shows 10 external links pointing to my site Please can someone explain to me what is happening here? Disavow and link analysis

I am trying to work up a list of Domains to disavow from old SEO black hat (long time ago) and I think some recent bad SEO against the site. I found a few good articles here and started the process. Very daunting even on a site that never had a lot of link work done on it. One particular issue has my attention and need advice on what to do with it. I find 100s of backlinks that all resolve to the same IP 72.215.225.9 . Has anyone else seen this one. These are sites such as mengems.com or http://www.downey-realestate.com . I am using NetPeak Checker to grab stats on the backlinks after gathering backlinks for 5 different sites. These site all seem to come from Majesticseo and sure enough if I ping any of them they return 72.215.225.9 on at first and then go not found. They return a 200 in NetPeak . I was hoping not open thousands of backlinks to see if they existing before I create my Disavow list. Couple of questions. 1. Any harm in putting these on the disavow if in fact they really don't exist anymore? Do the disavow police not like your list being longer than it needs to be ? I am leaning to just leaving all of them off my list. Seems I read something that says dont ask google to disavow something that no longer exists because they are not penalizing you for it. 2. If I start with the most egregious Bad and ex-black hat domains and submit them, wait 3 weeks and the Penguin hit rankings do not recover at all then how to add to the list. Do I leave all the original disavows on the list, add to it and resubmit ? 3. My first thought was to simple send a list of all domain that have no Google indexed pages regardless of return status code. Basicly saying please clean the slate of this crap.....thoughts on this? Combining two domains

Hi guys, a friend of mine has two sites. They both have a fair few links pointing to them, so I think it would be a shame to lose/ignore one of them. Some of the links are low quality, from previous link building efforts, however at the moment I can't see any real penalisation from Google, so my guess is that it's currently ok... I'm aware that I'll have to remove some of the legacy low quality links soon. My question is what should I do? Will combining the two websites help? The main site is Gazebo Shop, but there's another exact match domain to consider... I'd like to keep the main website on the first URL, as that's the one I'm redeveloping now. Thanks for any help! Edit: I should add to my question: Should I redirect individual pages to my new category pages to pass Page Authorty/Rank?

Changing domain names... Bad idea?

We are re-doing a clients e-commerce website. Before I had entered them on SEO moz we had decided to change their domain name to one with a keyword inside. I had not known that they had an online marketing company previous working for them. They have a domain authority of 42 right now. It would be a horrible idea to switch their domain right? I looked at some of the links, they all have a variety of good anchor text. But alot of the links are coming from sites or directory categories that are not relative. We are also planning on doing 301 re-directs for the links. But this will not transfer the domain authority to the new domain right? Any thoughts?
