Why the rapid drop in Domain Authority?
-
I couple weeks ago I switched my website from Drupal to a Wordpress CMS: Martial Arts Austin My rankings have remained the same, but the Domain Authority has plummeted from like 29 to 21. I know this is small fry, but I don't want my business to drop in ranking.
The URL's were kept exactly the same, with the internal links and copy also kept the same with few additions.
Also, according to Open Site Explorer, the site's stronger pages have now averaged out with the weaker and unused pages so they all now share the same Page Authority - that doesn't seem right. Is there reason for concern?
Did I screw something up, or am I making too much of this?
Thanks

There is one other possibility and that would be the "canonical redirect." If your site is PMA (only one I saw with PA 21 in serps), when you put www.yourdomain.com in you get a page auth of 33 to go with your DA 21. But, when you put in the root without the www, ( yourdomain.com ) you get a PA of 18 and your linking root domains drop a bit.... from 42 to 1.
In WordPress, with any of the SEO plugins we have used (All in one, Genesis, etc), the canonical redirect does not happen. You have to do it in the .htaccess file. There are plenty of good directions for how to: query .htaccess redirects. Or, there are several gurus around moz who can post directions here..... (I'm not one)
My guess is that when you do this, you will see a change in short time (few weeks at most).

Hi Steve.
The most likely cause of your DA drop is some URLs from the old site no longer exist on the new site. Something was missed.
The easiest way to test this theory is to compare a list of your backlink profile from the old site with the backlink profile of the new site. If you didn't track your backlinks in the past, then I suggest you start now as it is a good tool to help troubleshooting this type of issue. A few other items to check out:
-
Did you use any 302 redirects? If so, that is an issue as the link value does not flow when a 302 is used.
-
Did you remove ANY pages from your site during the CMS migration? If so, those pages may have had links which contributed to your site's overall DA.
-
It's also possible a site which linked to you previously decided to remove the link at the same time as the CMS change.
I tried to look at your site and noticed it is redirected to http://www.meetup.com/pmaustin/. Your site is a martial arts site where this is a project management site. Something seems wrong.

There was an update to Open Site Explorer on September 13th that might account for the change in domain authority, and it may well be that your DA would have had the same change even if you hadn't touched your site. Here's a blog post from Rand about the latest OSE update: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/linkscape-september-update-feedback.
Having the same PA across all of the pages doesn't sound right. For that, I'd send an email to the help desk at help@seomoz.org and let them know about it.
I'd say don't panic just yet!

Similar Keywords on Addon Domain
Hi all, I'm looking at setting up a second website targeting some similar keywords to my existing blog. I host the site through bluehost and am considering hosting the other website as an addon Domain. Whilst the content on both websites will be different both will target the same keywords. Does anyone know if because I'm targeting the same keys words using an addon Domain this could impact my existings site google rankings? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Migrating domains from a domain that will have new content.
We have a new url. The old url is being taken over by someone else. Is it possible to still have a successful redirect/migration strategy if we are redirect from our old domain, which is now being used by someone else. I see a big mess, but I'm being told we can redirect all the links to our old content (which is now used by someone else) to our new url. Thoughts? craziness? insanity? Or I'm just not getting it:)

Moving most (not all) content to another domain
Hi there, My company website has 3 main sections, two of those sections (each containing approx. 50 pages) will be moving to a separate website. The new website will also be owned by the same company. The new domain does not yet exist. I read this guide http://www.seomoz.org/blog/seo-guide-how-to-properly-move-domains , its very good, however it refers to moving the whole domain to a new URL. Are there any specific differences to consider in my situation for a partial move? Many thanks in advance! Nigel

302 multiple domains...
Hello, I have a few domain names with orthographic variations that I'd like to redirect to my main site. The problem is my registrar (OVH) does only 302 redirects, so what are my options ? Can I keep a dozen 302's ? Do I have to change all their DNS (it's a load on my server...) ? Thanks for any ideas Johann.

Sudden SERP drop?
I'm wondering why my mainpage of my site just disappeared from google while a post from my site ranks at #11 on google. I currently only have 1 .edu backlink to it and the anchor text is my url site : http://www.domain.c0m What is the meaning of this? I checked my on page optimization and I got an A. The only problem I saw with my site was keyword stuffing on the homepage because my posts contain the keyword and its listed 26 times on the homepage but that shouldn't be the problem.

Preferred domain registrar AU
I need to register a domain in Australia. Does anybody have a trusted domain registrar I can go to? The person in our Australian office gave me a list of registrars she found where she can purchase the domain, but I wanted to see if anyone here had recommendations.

Moving Blog to Custom Domain
Hi All - I am currently attempting to move a blog (companyname.blogspot.com) that has a 2/10 GPR to a custom domain name so that I can get my targeted keywords in the domain name. The new domain will just be www.targetedkeyword.com. There are easy instructions for doing this with the A record and CNAME changes in the Blogger help, but I am worried about losing rank and links if I do this. Can you guys help me understand what the ramifications would be, and how I can accomplish this without losing the 2/10 mojo? Thanks!
