Has anyone worked with Edgecast?
-
They have a caching system where they assign multiple ip's based on location and we are curious how it affects SEO.
-
Thanks everyone for your input - much appreciated!

[Disclosure: I work at EdgeCast and have been heavily involved with the company since its founding.]
Daniel & Dragon,
The primary benefit of CDN for SEO is, as Casey said, speed. Users' tolerance for lags is lower than ever, so many search engines are starting to include site speed/performance as part of their ranking algorithms.
To Dragon's multiple-IP question, only the search engines know for sure, but we can tell you that search engines are very aware sites are often hosted far away from where the business is located. (Google has said this explicitly on their Webmaster Blog.) You're likely to fare much better by worrying about things like ccTLDs, on-page signals such as contact information & native language, and ensuring that your content is linked to by other sites in the same region speaking the same language. Google's WMT also lets you set a specific geo-region for your domain, but I'm not sure how strongly that signal is weighed.
I'd also like to take issue with a couple of things Casey said.
First: SEOMoz does not have its own CDN. SEOMoz uses Cloudfront, which is Amazon's CDN. Cloudfront is fairly easy to use, has no volume or contractual commitments, and is a good solution for those who care more about ease-of-use than performance.
I also take issue with Casey's comment about EdgeCast as a "basic" CDN provider. We offer a variety of delivery services, serve almost a million objects a second, and carry a significant percentage of the world's internet traffic. We're also consistently ranked as one of the (often the) fastest CDNs in the market, and handle some of the world's busiest web sites. Our minimum revenue commitment may be out of reach for a small site owner, but several companies (MediaTemple and GoGrid, for example) aggregate and resell our services to smaller users in a no-commitment, pay-as-you-go form.
I'm not out to pump EdgeCast here, but I do want to set the record straight.
Where Casey is absolutely right is that using a CDN will have a drastic impact on your site's load time.
Hope this is helpful.

Hi DragonSearch,
Edgecast is a basic CDN provider which will help your speed and performance on your website. We at SEOmoz have our own custom CDN which allows us to load our webpages from one server and load our images and other large documents from another server. If you look at the code on our site you will see some of our images come from http://cdn.seomoz.org. This is all to increase the speed of our site and reduce the load on our servers. In the big picture I would spend lots of money on a service like this since it will only have a minor role on your SEO efforts.
Casey

I have no experience with Edgecast, but from what you are describing, doesn't do anything for SEO.
From what I understand of what you are saying, this doesn't affect SEO. If you have a .com, and target users in the U.S. then make sure your site is hosted in the U.S. and the IP address is to a server in the U.S. More specific geographic targeting than that is unnecessary.
But maybe I'm misunderstanding what they do.

How to get google to forget my old but still working page and list my new fully optimized page for a keyword?
Hi There! (i am beginner in seo) I have dynamic and static pages on our site. I created a static page for a specific keyword. Fully optimized it, (h1, alt, metas, etc.....maybe too optimized). My problem is that this page is alive for weeks, checked it in GWT and it is in robots.txt, google sees it, and indexed it. BUT whenewer i do a search for that keyword, we still appear with the dynamically created link in the google listings. How could i "redirect" google, if sy make a search for that keyword than shows our optimized page? Is there a tool for that? I cant delete the dynamic page... Any ideas? Thx Andrew

Schema.org markup for breadcrumbs: does it finally work?
Hi, TL;DR: Does https://schema.org/BreadcrumbList work? It's been some time since I last implemented schema.org markup for breadcrumbs. Back then the situation was that google explicitly discouraged the use of the schema.org markup for breadcrumbs. In my experience it had been pretty hit or miss - sometimes it worked without issues; sometimes it did not work without obvious reason. Consequently, I ditched it for the data-vocabulary.org markup which did not give me any issues. However, I prefer using schema.org and currently a new site is being designed for a client. Thus, I'd like to use schema.org markup for the breadcrumb - but of course only if it works now. Google has dropped the previous warning/discouragements and by now lists a schema.org code https://developers.google.com/structured-data/breadcrumbs based on the new-ish https://schema.org/BreadcrumbList. Has anybody here used this markup on a site (preferably more than one) and can confirm whether or not it is reliably working and showing the breadcrumb trail / site hierarchy in the SERP? Thanks for your answers! Nico

Does 301 redirect of old filenames still work?
I have gone through several revisions of my site. We used to have only static pages in HTML. I had search-engine-optimization.html changed to seo-philippines.html changed to /seo-philippines/ I 301 redirected all of them whenever I change the filenames. This is in the course of 6 years worth of link building and I'm wondering if this has an effect because our rankings go down everytime we do this.

Does anyone have any thoughts about this site: web-archive-uk.com?
They have "archived" a lot of our content. We have high-quality content that has been copied by others. We are in the process of sending DMCA notices to the relevant search engines that have indexed these sites. As well as to the actual sites. Are we right to believe that copied content on 3rd party websites damages/diminishes the seo of our own site? (Leaving aside the straight forward theft issue.) BTW actually impressed by the swift responses from Google to DMCA requests.

Does anyone know a sitemap generation tool that updates your sitemap based on changes on your website?
We have a massive site with thousands of pages which we update everyday. Is there a sitemap generator that can create google sitemaps on the fly and change only based on changes in the site? Our site is much too large to create new sitemaps on regular basis. Is there a tool that will run on server that does this automatically?

Has anyone used Micrositez? Or can recommend them?
Hi all, After using SEOmoz for a while (and I have learnt alot - it's a fantastic resource) I think it's about time our website is given the nudge by a professional, who unlike me isn't learning the ropes and trying to compete with the big boys! So easy question, has anyone used/can vouch for http://www.micrositezdigital.co.uk/ I've been in contact with them alot recently and spent hours on the phone. 1 side of me is impressed, the other is scared to death of the monthly price. Any help would be appreciated with this, It would nice to know how good they are especially in regards to their bespoke campaigns. Thanks, Allan
