Using meta keywords for Comparison Shopping Sites - Buy.com, TheFind.com, Shopzilla
-
We are thinking about using our meta keywords field to feed to shopping networks like The Find, Shopzilla, Buy.com, etc. These networks want you to provide them with as many keywords as possible to show up in their internal search results. If we feed them our meta keywords field we could have 20 to 25 keywords for each product (tennis equipment). Would this be a bad or good thing for SEO?

Well, you kind of have to weigh your options. The dangers of using meta keywords is that your competitors can read them and, and then they will know how to compete with you. You are basically giving away some of your proprietary information.
Now having said that, there are still people who use meta keywords. Read this article. You basically just have to deiced if you getting your products placed on buy.com is going to make you enough money to be worth it.
Sorry, I know I didn't give you a yes/no answer, but hopeful you have enough information to make an educated decision.

A Solution to Keywords Being Grouped in Google Keyword Planner
Hi guys, I am trying to get search traffic for a list of keywords which I put together a few years ago for one of my clients, this was before Google made changes to their Keyword Planner. When I am adding the list into Google Keyword Planner it is "grouping" a number of the keywords/phrases together, and therefore removing 13 of the keywords from the original list of 59 keywords. Is there a way around this so I can get search volume for the original list, and not the cut down one? I am specifically using Google Keyword Planner as I want to get search volume for a number of specific locations in the UK. Any comments/feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! Jack. Why is my site not appearing for a generic relevant short-tail keyword?
Hi, I work for a lighting retailer and in the past few weeks, our ranking in Google for the term 'lights' has decreased so much that I can no longer find it in the first 20 pages on Google. We did receive a manual action but the penalty has since been revoked. However, this seems to be a keyword specific problem as we are ranking #5 for 'cheap lights' - which is obviously more relevant and specific anyway. The only reason I'm asking is because the company director is asking why it has decreased so much, and I've tried to explain the keyword is too short and generic to bring in good traffic to the site, but he still wants a reason why that keyword in particular has dropped so much. It is interesting to note that one of our competitors, had a significant drop like ours. However, they seem to be climbing back up the rankings now. I was just wondering if anyone had any insight into this issue? Thanks, Brian

Bulk keyword competition tool?
The SEOmoz Keyword Difficulty tool is great, but the 5 keyword limit is too small. I need a tool that will allow checking the organic competition level of 100's of keywords (to help in selecting blog topics). Anyone know of such a tool?

Local Keyword Strategy
Good morning! I'm working on building out a new website for a regional insurance agency specializing in auto insurance for high risk drivers (ex. Tickets, Accidents, Dui's, etc.). Due to the competitive nature of our industry, I believe it is best to focus on very localized long tail keywords, instead of broad terms I don't have any chance of ranking for. Our keyword research indicates that there is an opportunity to optimize and potentially rank for keywords that include geographic modifiers for towns and cities within a roughly 50 mile radius. The problem is, there is only so much you can say about auto insurance. On the one hand, I would like to have individual landing pages for each keyword phrase. On the other hand, I don't want to look manipulative to Google or hurt user experience by creating a bunch of pages with relatively similar content. Can anyone offer some advice on how I can structure the site/content to optimize for each geographic modifier without having lots of pages that are very similar? Thank you!

Keyword management - where do i start?
Hi all, i am a starting out SEO. I have recently been browsing our keyword rankings report and noticed that we are very low down on some quite key search terms. I therefor want to focus over the next few weeks, on bringing us up the rankings for these specific terms. Apologies if this is a very basic one, but**,.... I dont know where to start!** I would be very interested if anyone can give me some advice on a plan of action. What actions should be in my action plan? For example, if i wanted to improve our rankings on the following: English school in malta Learning english in malta English classes in malta

From there I try to distill it down to categories and then order on ability to drive traffic and convert. Anyone have something they can share maybe from the excel side, maybe from the tool side... something to help me make this easy and great.
