3 weeks after PR8 is Implemented
-
I recently Received a PR-8 Backlink from a very authorative site. Its been 3 weeks now and it seems ALL my rankings are actually down .As i continue to check my rankings for the top 10 keys every day,I see the ranks jumping from 09 down to 42 and back up to 09,This is every day it seems the last week ...It just seems that in 3 weeks the bouncing would stop by now. The keyword i am speaking of actually gets about 250,000 searches a month. Prior to the pr 8 link i was solid at #11 Google. BUT now im at #12 - #13..Does anyone think that maybe something else is going on here??
-
Thank you all very much...My traffic and conversions actually has been quite awesome for the last 12 months..Good enough that this site is the sole support of my family and 7 kids.
Again i wouldnt be here where i am today if it was not for yhou guys..
-
3 weeks is not that long, although a pr8 site would get crawled quite oten you would think.
I have found that Googel has become very slow at awarding juice of late. I know that WMT is not the same thing, but that can sometimes be months behind.
there is nothing wrong with being a contributer link in itself, rather are you contributing to a site that is relevant to yoursite

Hi Robert,
Great answers here already, but I just wanted to perhaps give a little different perspective on your problem...
I know it is very frustrating to see what is happening, but I would be focusing on traffic and conversions rather than rankings. In the end, if you have a home page link embedded in body copy on a high authority site, it is quite possible that you will see an increase in traffic from referrals. If this were me I could care less about a couple of ranking positions!
With the effects of localization and personalization on today's SERPs, it is impossible to know exactly what result each person sees anyway.
Also, have you checked whether the link is followed? If it is not, then the effect upon your site won't be as great as you expected, but the potential for referrals is still enormous
Hope this helps,
Sha

The link being on the home page is fantastic! My concern is the "contributor" listing. Google's algorithms should automatically devalue any sponsored links. I would say the popular belief amongst SEOs is contributor links still pass PR but I have not seen any form of confirmation from Google on this topic, and I doubt we will. The link may or may not actually offer any direct value.
Either way, I would recommend continuing with business as normal. Continue to build and grow your site with quality link building techniques.
Can i push as hard as they are ??OR do i need to be patient and just keep moving ahead slowly As i am now??
SEO ranking is purely a competition. How much effort (i.e. links, quality content, etc) you put into your site is all relative to the actions of others competing for the same traffic. Without seeing the sites involved I can only speak in generalities. If you have multiple competitors spending money on quality SEO efforts, it is a link war. Your choice is to fight harder which usually means spending more money, or fight smarter by focusing on long tail content or spending your money and time on other efforts.

The link is actually located on the home page with an actual PR8 rank
The link is for the pretty competitive term of about 250,000 searches per month
The link is not surrounded by text instead it is listed mid page as a contributor to the site with anchor text for my main keyword..
I have been working on this site for a total of 3 years im only now getting to #11 position...
Every time i get close THE #1,#2and #3 competitor starts HUGE link campaigns and adds hundreds and hundreds of links at a time...AGAIN pushing me down ...
Can i push as hard as they are ??OR do i need to be patient and just keep moving ahead slowly As i am now??
thank You

It's normal for a site's keyword rankings to bounce around (or do the 'Google Dance') after receiving a lot of new new links (or a few very authoritative ones). Without knowing more, I'd say that you're probably just witnessing the various components of the ranking system at work. The volatility seems to correspond with the amount of new data the ranking system has to process - I've seen a page that had sat at #3 for a year fall to the 400's for a couple of days after a successful social campaign that resulted in hundreds of links and tweets, only to return at #1 and hold steady ever since.
So If it does not improve, the appropriate reaction is to just proceed with you link building plan. Social signals are important for validating an unusual pattern in link building (for your site/niche), so make sure you're addressing that and you should be fine.

In my experience most people are completely disillusioned on the idea of link building. There are sites with literally millions of links to them. You earned ONE link. It sounds like a great link, but there are many questions here:
-
Many people claim to receive a PR8 link because the home page of the site they received the link from is PR8. The question to ask is, what is the PR of the actual page from which you received the link?
-
What kind of link is it? Is the link contained within content? For example, a blog article written about a topic which mentioned your site? That would be a quality link. Or is it a footer link or other low value link?
-
How many links are on the page? Each additional link on the page lessens the value of your link.
-
What page of your site does this link target? The benefit would be highest for the keyword or phrase which the target page focuses upon.
-
Is there anchor text used for the link? Or is it a straight web address?
If you can share the page with the link, we can evaluate it and offer better feedback. There are some people who have received a "PR10" link which offered absolutely no value because while the site's home page is PR10, the linking page is PR0 because it is not ever crawled since it is buried so deep.
Link building is a long term process. The key factor when you wish to rank for a given work or phrase is your competition. It is fantastic earning a PR8 link, and it will offer a positive contribution to your site if it is indeed really a quality PR8 link, but the benefit is not necessary visible in terms of "well I ranked as #11 before the link, and now I jumped to #7". It can possibly work that way but that is more common for newer sites with few links competing on a less competitive keyword.

Hotel SEO, 3-pack & Search Console: How to get the right data and how to improve CTR?
Hey guys, I've been working with some hotels and I feel like there are some specific issues which need special solutions.
Algorithm Updates | | Maggiathor
Maybe some of you also work for hotels and face similar problems. Question 1: Google "forces" 3-packs impressions to OTAs like booking.com via Hotel Ads. You basically have a big blue "book now" button and a small little website button. This ends up basically leading to CTRs below 1% despite a 1-3 Position. Is there any way to improve the organic CTR? Of course we use hotel ads, but they offer bad analytics AND we basically pay for our SEO-Performance. Question 2: Search console doesn't specify wether or not a impression comes from 3-Pack or the rest of the organic results, which basically leads to a average position which says nothing. It's hard to evaluate the performance of meta-titles and texts, because the ctr is also mixed. What would be a better way to get this data or do you think google will change this in some time (new search console doesn't offer this). Question 3: Hotel Rankings are dominated by OTAs, Meta-Searchers and BIg Chains. Has anyone experience in SEO for smaller, family owned Hotels? Any tricks how to get a steady traffic source outside of brand results? Hope there are some travel experts in here 🙂0 -
Have there been any google algorithm updates in the past 2 weeks?
Hi guys - we have noticed a site we work one has taken a hit on its rankings over the past week. We have been through all the usual reason - hacking, duplicate content, back links, other sites copying text etc - but can not find any reason why its rankings have been affected. Has any one else noticed unexplained changes in rankings with sites about a week ago? Thanks in advance! Phil

Penguin 3.0 Site Dropped after Update
Hi We was hit by the Penguin update a long time ago and we lost a lot of traffic/positions because of this. For a long time we worked really hard to identify all off our links that may have caused us to recieve this penalty. After Months of work we submitted the disavow file and reconsideration request and in June 2014 we recieved confirmation from google in webmaster tools that the manual spam action had been revoked. over time we then started to recieve more traffic and better positions in the serps, however since penguin 3.0 we have dropped again for a range of keywords. many going from page 1 to 2 or page 2 to 3/4 Any ideas what we should do here , any help will be really appriciated as I'm totally confused We havent done any link building at all since the penalty / recovery

Weekly traffic from Google: How do you explain this?
Hello here, I have question for you. Please, have a look at the attached image from my website analytics which shows the unique visits trend of the last 2 months. What it is interesting is that every Monday Google brings me more traffic than any other day of the week, whereas on Saturdays it gives me the lowest traffic. And looks like that's a pretty regular weekly pattern. Why is Google doing that? What does that mean? Why such a clear and steady pattern? I am eager to know your thoughts about this! CGuULrN.jpg

Our Rankings are being very inconsistent! Some days we are on the front page, some days we are not in the top 50\. This happens on a weekly and sometimes daily basis... Any thoughts on why this is happening? This newbie appreciates any feedback.
We seem to be having major issues with our rankings. When I came into the company, the company was in the middle of cleaning up some of their past SEO efforts that had caused some issues with some of the latest Google updates. We were able to get the site back up to par, and some of our rankings were improved back to the first page, but then they disappeared. They will head back to the first page and then disappear again on a weekly and sometimes daily basis. Does anyone have any idea on why it will be doing this so inconsistently and so often? This newbie appreciates any feedback!!!!!

Can AJAX implementation affect the rankings in Google Panda?
Hi there, I have the following situation with one of our job sites. We migrate the site to a new application, which is better from design point of view and also usability. For this we use a lot AJAX especially in searches. So every time a user is filtering down their search new results will be shown on the page, at the same url and with no page load. But, having this implementation. affected Bounce rate - which increased from 38% to nearly 60%, PI/visits - which are now half, at 3 and also Avg Time on Site is half that is used to be coming to 2,5 min from nearly 6 min. From Rand post, it is clearly that the content is very important in Google Panda, and all of these parameters we should consider, as it is telling the quality of the content. So, my question will be, can this site be hit by Panda updates (maybe later on) because Bounce Rate, PI/Visits and Avg Time on site, decreased in such way? At the moment we don't measure the Ajax impresion, but as I understood that we can do that though virtual pages in GA, does anyone of you have the experience how to handle this? Won't be this an artificial increase? Thanks, Irina

Website "penalized" 3 times by Google
I have a website that I'm working with that has had the misfortune of gaining rankings/traffic on Google, then having the rankings/traffic removed...3 times! (Very little was changed on the site to gain or lose "favor" with Google, either.) Notes: Site is a mixture of high quality original content and duplicate content (vacation rental listings) When traffic crashes, we lose nearly all rankings and traffic (90+%) When traffic crashes, we lose all rankings sitewide, including those gained by our high quality, unique pages None of the "crash" dates appear to coincide with any Panda update dates We are working on adding unique content to our pages with duplicate content, but it's a long process and so far doesn't seem to have made any difference I'm confounded why Google keeps "changing its mind" about our site We have an XML sitemap, and Google keeps our site indexed pretty well, even when we lose our rankings Due to the drastic and sitewide loss of rankings, I'm assuming we are dealing with some sort of algorithmic penalty Timeline: Traffic steadily grows starting in Jan 2011 Traffic crashes on Feb 19, 2011. We assumed it was due to a pre-panda anti-scraper update, but don't know. Google sends traffic to our site on March 1, then none the next day On June 16th, I block part of the site using robots.txt (most of the section wasn't indexed anyway) On June 17th, Google starts ranking our site again. I thought it might be due to the robots.txt change, but I had just made the change a few hours ago, and Google wasn't even indexing the part of the site I blocked Traffic/rankings crash again on July 6th. No theory why. Site URL: http://www.floridaisbest.com Traffic Stats: Attached I know that we need more backlinks and less duplicate content, but I can't explain why our Google rankings are "on again, off again". I have never seen a site gain and lose all of its rankings/traffic so drastically multiple times, for no apparent reason. Any thoughts or ideas would be welcome. Thanks! t8IqB
