How to make google not index quotes from other sites?
-
Hey guys,
I have a site where we post quite a lot of info from other sites. We don't want google to de-index our pages because parts of it are quotes from other sites. What would you use to make it so Google sees it's a quote from another site? Or to just make Google not index the quote?
Thanks!

We're using Vbulletin and we do really want the rest of page to get indexed. I'll just link back to them then. Thanks to both of you!

Hi Gianluca,
Yes I did - Thanks for pointing it out

If the quotes are just part of the content and not a big part of the content, I would not worry too much about eventual problems, always if you cite the source of the quote.
If the quote substantially means the highest % of the page content, but you want the page to be indexed, then the use of the canonical tag with the original source in it, it's not the solution, because the SE will filter out your page and show the source only. In that case I think that a link back to the source could be enough.
There could be an alternative, but it is just an idea as i don't know if it could work in your case: to use a schema (microdata) in order to better specify the source to the SE: http://schema.org/Article and http://schema.org/BlogPosting
Then, if you don't want to have the quoting pages be seen at all, then simply don't make them indexable with noindex,follow or use the canonical tag with the source url in.

1. Add a nofollow tag to the head of the page so that it doesn't get indexed
<meta name="robots" content="noindex, follow" />
I think you meant: Add a noindex tag..., right?

Hi,
I would say that you have a couple of options:-
1. Add a nofollow tag to the head of the page so that it doesn't get indexed
<meta name="robots" content="noindex, follow" />
2. Add a canonical link to the head of the page pointing back to the original content
<link href="http://www.original-site.com"rel="canonical">
I would try to go for the 2nd option if possible but it can be difficult to implement if you are using a CMS system. Also make sure that you don't have more quoted content on your site than you have original content.

Fixing Index Errors in the new Google Search Console - Help
Hi, So I have started using the new Search Console and for one of my clients, there are a few 'Index Coverage Errors'. In the old version you could simply, analyse, test and then mark any URLs as fixed - does anyone know if that is possible in the new version? There are options to validate errors but no 'mark as fixed' options. Do you need to validate the errors before you can fix them?

Page Not Indexed
Hi Guys I wrote and published an article last night on my site but it is yet to be indexed. This is strange as articles are usually indexed pretty quickly. Could you have a quick look and see what the problem is? http://www.rankmytri.com/tomtom-running-and-triathlon-watch/ Also all my Blog posts (in the blog section of the site) are not indexed as well (and I dont think they have been for a while) yet I dont have any messages from Google in my webmaster tools. Thoughts? Thanks in advance Ross

Help with the indexation of my page
Hi all, I have a problem with my website. When writing site:www.pinesapiensa.com there're no pages indexed although the webmaster tools tells me that the sitemap file has been processed in 13 May and the number of indexed paged are 21. ¿What could be happening? I have to mention that there are two domains "www.piensapiensa.es" and "www.piensapiensa.com" addressing the same website and there's a redirection from piensapiensa.com to piensapiensa.com but it doesn't work properly. Thanks

Recommended Length for a Companies "Services" Page Content
I am in the process of revamping my company's website. I do WordPress Development, Design, and SEO consulting, and i'm running into a sort of writer's block when wring my services pages. For example, my page on WordPress Security has 388 words of "body" content, and I feel from a content perspective, it serves it's purpose, but from an SEO perspective it is considered a little light. I really don't know what the SOP is here, because, I've literally seen competitors sites have a page on "WordPress Security" rank on the first page of Google with absolutely no content, an empty page. I see a lot of the Moz posts are huge, thosands of words, and I know they perform very well (and they also have ton's of links / PR...etc) and I just want to do the right thing. I know sites like http://www.seerinteractive.com/our-services/search-engine-optimization have relatively short info pages as well. Thanks in advance for your feedback. How do I do a 301 Redirect in IIS 7 from http://www.freightmonster.com/index.html to http://freightmonster.com/index.html when I don't have a physical page to redirect?
I'm trying to get rid of my Rel Canonical links and use the 301 Redirect instead.

Content for ecommerce site
How important on site/page contents are for ecommerce site. Keeping in mind the page layout. Its not that important to have page copy/content at all for ecommerce sites If yes, does position of content is an important factor? if putting page copy/content in upper fold of a page then the most important thing which is product itself will have less exposure if putting near the footer of the page, does that seem like doing just for the sake of SEs and ranking. How important internal linking form that content would be compare to left panel links or links at the header of a website Thanks Rick

So when you click there on O produkte next to Ceny it will show you product description. My problem is that in source code when page is loaded i have this: Product description.. And after user click on O produkte javascript remove that display:none and show content. But Google will see only display:none as i think. Can i get penalty from Google? Will it index this text?
