Duplicate page content errors in SEOmoz
-
Hi everyone, we just launched this new site and I just ran it through SEOmoz and I got a bunch of duplicate page content errors. Here's one example -- it says these 3 are duplicate content:
- http://www.alicealan.com/collection/alexa-camel-3inch
- http://www.alicealan.com/collection/alexa-gray-3inch
You'll see from the pages that the titles, images and small pieces of the copy are all unique -- but there is some copy that is the same (after all, these are pretty much the same shoe, just a different color).
So, why am I getting this error and is there any best way to address?
Thanks so much!

One other choice is to have one page, and change the content dynamicly

Why am I getting this [duplicate content] error?
Because the pages are almost exact duplications of each other. I compared the black and camel colors and there was only one sentence on the page which was altered, along with 3 images and the selected color option. 95% of the pages are identical.
Is there any best way to address?
Yes, the canonical meta tag is designed for this type of situation. A search engine will presently crawl all three pages and then pick one page to index. Rather then the search engine make the choice, you should. I would recommend adding the canonical tag to the headers of your HTML code. Pick whichever color is the most popular and present it in search engines.
If you feel it is really important to have all three pages indexed, you could take another approach. Add additional content to each page which is unique. For the black shoes, you can add images of someone wearing them with matching outfits and add content about famous people who were seen wearing those shoes. Also you can allow users to add comments to each shoe. The comments would add additional uniqueness to each page.
If you choose the latter approach, it is very important you write for readers, not for the search engines. I know your end goal may be to have the page indexed, but if you add junk content, or simply re-arrange words and replace synonyms search engines will likely detect it and downgrade the page's ranking.

I would not worry, if SE's see it the same way, then one will rank higher then the rest, not a big deal, they will still find the show, then can select color

Duplicate Page Title Error passing a php variable
Hi i've searched about this and read about this and i can't get my head around it and could really do with some help. I have a lot of contact buttons which all lead to the same enquiry form and dependant on where it has come from it fills in the enquiry field on the contact form. For example if you are on the airport transfer page it will carry the value so its prefilled in (.php?prt=Airport Transfers). The problem is it's coming up as a duplicate page however its just the 1. I have this problem with quite a few sites and really need to combat this issue. Any help would be very much appreciated. airport-transfers.php

Duplicate Page content / Rel=Cannonical
My SEO Moz crawl is showing duplicate content on my site. What is showing up are two articles I submitted to Submit your article (article submission service). I put their code in to my pages i.e. " <noscript><b>This article will only display in JavaScript enabled browsers.</b></noscript> " So do I need to delete these blog posts since they are showing up as dup content? I am having a difficult time understanding rel=cannonical. Isn't this for dup content on within one site? So I could not use rel="cannonical" in this instance? What is the best way to feature an article or press release written for another site, but that you want your clients to see? Rewritting seem ridiculous for a small business like ours. Can we just present the link? Thank you.

Uservoice and Duplicate Page Content
Hello All, I'm having an issue where the my UserVoice account is creating duplicate page content (image attached). Any ideas on how to resolve the problem? A couple solutions we're looking into: moving the uservoice content inside the app, so it won't get crawled, but that's all we got for now. Thank you very much for your time any insight would be helpful. Sincerely,

Duplicate content due to csref
Hi, When i go trough my page, i can see that alot of my csref codes result in duplicate content, when SeoMoz run their analysis of my pages. Off course i get important knowledge through my csref codes, but im quite uncertain of how much it effects my SEO-results. Does anyone have any insights in this? Should i be more cautios to use csref-codes or dosent it create problems that are big enough for me to worry about them.

One landing page with lots of content or content hub?
Interested in getting some opinions on if it's better to build one great landing page with tons of content or build a good landing page and build more content (as blog posts?) and interlink them back to the landing/hub page? Thoughts and opinions? Chris

How damaging is duplicate content in a forum?
Hey all; I hunted around for this in previous questions in the Q&A and didn't see anything. I'm just coming back to SEO after a few years out of the field and am preparing recommendations for our web dev team. We use a custom-coded software for our forums, and it creates a giant swathe of duplicate content, as each post has its own link. For example: domain.com/forum/post_topic domain.com/forum/post_topic/post1 domain.com/forum/post_topic/post2 ...and so on. However, since every page of the forum defaults to showing 20 posts, that means that every single forum thread that's 20 posts long has 21 different pages with identical content. Now, our forum is all user-generated content and is not generally a source of much inbound traffic--with occasional exceptions--but I was curious if having a mess of duplicate content in our forums could damage our ability to rate well in a different directory of the site. I've heard that Panda is really cracking down on duplicate content, and last time I was current on SEO trends, rel="canonical" was the hot new thing that everyone was talking about, so I've got a lot of catching up to do. Any guidance from the community would be much appreciated.
