Not sure to see the real value of SeoMoz!

Still one week left for my trial. I did not get the result I wanted to have on my ranking, I know it takes time and patience to get there. Even if I consider myself as tech savvy, I have the impression that even if you have the best tools to monitor what is going on that you still have to spend to much time to get better ranking. I would prefer to give the contract to someone else rather than spending time trying to figure out what is going on.
I am in some sort of a catch22. I need to increase my ranking, I know my competitors have more backlinks then I can possibly reach ( we have 55 and they have around to 78000). I am wondering how they got all these backlinks in just 2 years. We've been in business much longer..
I could confirmed that my On-page SEO is very good, it's really on my backlinks that I have problems. I see already some of you saying that I have to create rich content, but for a B2B companiy, it's not as easy to generate the proper content and get the backlinks needed.
Is there a very quick way to increase backlinks very quickly ?

Hi Marc,
Great answer from Ross!
What you need to do is be very strategic and learn to pick your battles so you have a better chance of winning
I believe the best way to do this is to stick with SEOmoz and soak up all the knowledge you can from the Blog, Webinars, Whiteboard Friday videos and of course, make use of Q&A.
Also, use the SERPs Analysis Tool to generate advanced reports for your "money" keyword terms and see if there are easy wins in on-page and/or social media that you may not have thought of. Rand gave a detailed explanation of the tool and how you can use it to compare metrics for the top 10 sites returned for your chosen keyword term. There is also a link to the tool at the beginning of the post.
Hope that helps,
Sha

Hi Marc,
Great Question.
I have an idea for you that will save you a lot of stress.
Instead of focusing on the number of back links you competitor has why not look at metrics that matter to you and your website. Evaluate what is going to make you money in the short term and create wealth over the long term.
With this in mind, let look at some changes you can make to get you increases in traffic and therefore increases in revenue.
If you need to build 78K links to compete, I imagine that you are targeting multiple keywords that are in the fat head of the search graph.
Why not do some keyword research an pick some long tail (less than 100 searches a month) keywords around the products with the highest profit margins for you. When the rank for these move on to similar keywords in the middle of the search graph and build it up like that. You should see your traffic and revenue increase slowly and as you do you should be able to starting competing for the more prestigious keywords.
With regards to giving up you SEO Moz account, I think that would be a bad idea. I am sure you will agree that the future of commerce is online. If you experience a little pain early on in the game just suck it up and look forward- you will reap the rewards later on.

Hi Marc,
I'm a bit confused by your post. Are you stating that you believe your membership to SEOMoz would increase your rankings based on membership alone?
You're right in that creating authority, building links, and gaining knowledge will take time. It takes lots of time! In short, it's my opinion that SEOMoz is intended to supplement your efforts, not be an elixir.
Unfortuantely, if you don't believe you have time to do the work to get rankings, there's not much that SEOMoz or anyone can really do to help you achieve same. If that's the case, I would suggest hiring a third party or reputable consulting service to do these tasks for you. It'll save you a lot of frustration!
I hope everything works out!
Best,
Wayne

Yes you can buy thousonds of links but they wont do you much good long term, and could get you introuble with SE's.
Often when you see that sort of link count they are cheap links, not really worth much. but I am sure they must have a few good links amung them.
I have often been able to beat sites that have heaps of links by having very cean code site with perfect crawlabilty.
If you give me your url, I will tell you if I can see some easy gains, if you dont want to make your url public you can send by personal message

Value of domain name for domain authority. Please help to figure out!
I am doing SEO for an appliance repair company. Their company website's domain doesn't have high authority, and I am going to increase that by link earning and content improving. I think a better domain name might also help me out. The current URL contain the word "appliance" but doesn't have "repair" in it. I am thinking a new domain that would contain both keywords will serve better. Could you please share with me your thought on this? Am I in the right direction, or not at all? I know Google penalizes mirror sites since this they are considered as duplicated content. I'll upload my content to the new domain and make the old one point to that new URL. I am wondering if canonical might help? Or 301 redirect will be a better solution? Any advise would be highly appreciated! Thank you!

Adding Google + to SEOmoz
I wanted to add my google + signature to every post I make on SEOmoz and I think every user should do the same... Two reasons why... Google helps our existence so we should help theirs. If someone likes what I wrote or vice versa we should be able to follow each other in a simple click. In my opinion all blogs forum posts etc... should Lead to a user not a website, this will prevent spam and help people network. In other words blog spammers and forum spammers will be SOL (Which they all ready are lol).

Value of key word based URL
I was researching some keywords and I found something that kind of confuses me. If you search google for Denver IT Consulting the second hit is for a site** - **denveritconsulting.com. This is a one page site with just a paragraph of text and links to the actual company's site but it's getting the second place on a pretty good keyword. I also checked open site explorer and they have no links at all. I am assuming that their placement is based solely on the exact match of the keywords in the URL? Does anyone have any feedback on this? I have purchased and used keyword based URLs in the past but I have never done or seen something like this that is so successful. Any input on this would be great. Thanks!

Canonicals for Real Estate
A real estate site has a landing page for a particular zip code: site.com/zip/99999 On this page, there are links which add arguments to the URL, resulting in structures like this: site.com/zip/99999?maxprice=1000000&maxbeds=3 My question is on using a canonical URL for the pages with arguments. These pages may have lots of duplicate content, so should I direct search engines back to the base URL for the search? (site.com/zip/99999) A side note is that these pages with arguments could have no listings returned (no listings found) or could come back with listings (then it wouldn't be duplicate), but that can change on a day to day basis.

Fowarding URL's Have No SEO Value?
Good Morning from -3 Degrees C no paths gritted wetherby UK 😞 Imagine this scenario. http://www.barrettsteel.com/ has been optimised for "Steel suppliers" & "Steel stockholders". After runnning an on page SEO moz report its recommended that the target terms should be placed in the url eg www.steel-suppliers.co.uk Now the organisation will not change the url but think setting up a forwarding url eg registering www.steel-suppliers.co.uk to then forward to www.steel-suppliers.co.uk will be of benfit from an SEO perspective. But i think not. So my question is please "is a forwarding url of no value but a permanent URL (struggling for the terminology to describe the url a site is set up with) such as www.steel-suppliers.co.uk would be of value?" Any insights welcome 🙂

Expired traffic and 301 value
Hi Folks, Here is our situation we have an old brand domain www.asia-hotels.com >> that was redirecting to>>www.asiahotels.com By mistake, we let that domain expired and only noticed the drop a month later We lost all our pages and this for several weeks Not sure of the exact date but approximately around 24th of December, what a merry Xmas! 😞 Since then we have repurchased the domain, Put back all the pages as they were and re-instated all the 301 redirect as they were. Since that date we haven't seen any uplift in our visits or visibility score. Did we do something wrong with our 301 redirect? I know for sure we used ISAPI rewrite mod for the non www. domain although I am not entirely sure how the www. version has been handled. Is there something we should do at a DNS level to flag the site is back? Should we presetn a reconsideration request? Any help would be greatly welcomed. Thanks for your help. Cheers, Freddy More info I placed a bit more info and the visits graph on my blog: http://www.inmarketingwetrust.com.au/seo-effect-of-domain-expiry-on-301-redirects/ I am not sure if this is due to the fact that some information is cached but when i looked at the site on opensiteexplorer I found that the data is still showing as non redirected sites: http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/asia-hotels.com/www.asia-hotels.com/a!comparison effect-of-301-redirect-expired-on-SERP-visibility-300x204.jpg
