Optimal Placement For Social Buttons on a Website
-
Hello,
I want to know what the best versions of twitter, facebook, and Google+1 buttons are, and where optimum placement is.
site: bobweikel.com
but I want to know in general as well
Thanks!
-
so much good information from all of you, thank you.

Hey Bob,
some points:
- I'd suggest you make your phone number more visible, maybe in a different color or as graphical button.
- I would add the social buttons above your newsletter sign-up and make it "fixed" so it stays in the top right corner if s.o. scrolls down.
- I would change to color of the signup-button to orange. It is your CTA, so it should be visible.
- Make your testimonials stand out (example from my site: www.waescherei-suche.de/referenzen.html)
- Most commonly used buttons are: Google+, Twitter, Facebook, linked in, stumbled upon. Check out these wordpress plug-ins: Social Media Counters or Slick Social Share Buttons
Also:
- Enable gzip for .css and .js files
- remove <meta name="generator" content="WordPress 2.9.1" /> so nobody can see the version you are running (exploits etc.)

Hi Bob
I'd say you should utilize the space in the top right of your header, then repeat with a separate section and smaller logos in the footer.
I agree with John suggestion of adding them at the end of every post too as this is when people are in a position to 'like' or 'share' your content.
Good luck!

I like this response John, thank you.
Let's see what others have to say, but I like your advice a lot.
Oh, I forgot: which buttons do I use and where do I get them?
-
Bob, good looking site. For your landing page I would make it very visible..perhaps near /around your signup call to action. On subsequent blog posts use social buttons at the end of your post.

Wordpress Socialize Plugin giving me 400+ 302s. Should I be concerned?
Looking at my report and saw I had over 400 302s. When I looked where they came from, it seems it's from a plugin called socialize sending stuff to Facebook. Does it matter?

Does adding a twitter or facebook feed to a website help rankings in regards of providing fresh content?
I have been asked if this is a sufficient way to provide fresh content to a website, however I am unsure if Google considers this as "fresh content", and I can't seem to come across a clear answer. Any thoughts?

Social Media Presence For Medical Equipment Providers
Selling medical equipment to everyone from hospitals, nursing homes, & dealers to selling medical equipment to every individual that doesn't have insurance (at great prices) is what we do. I've had success with some social media but I want to know where you think the biggest social media value is at specifically for a company & website like ours. (www.Ocelco.com). Thanks!

Deleting Poor Performing Social Media Accounts for Businesses?
I'm the Internet Marketing Manager for an ad agency and in charge of not only our social media and SEO but advising and hooking up clients with successful campaigns. I've taken the liberty of signing us up for almost every major social media account. Some are very successful (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, LinkedIn, Vimeo is ok (we use it over YouTube), Vine is picking up) and others are very not doing well (Flickr, Foursquare, YouTube really is low, Google+ is very mediocre). I’ve been wondering if it would be more beneficial to just delete certain accounts. I think I need to keep Google+ (Google values it and we are not doing terribly on it) but all the others listed in the bad column I think are really cancerous to our SEO (and make us look bad b/c we are doing poorly on them) but I really don’t know. I used them kind of to see if they would work for us and to demonstrate that we knew what we were doing in these social networks, but I think they may be doing us more harm than good both from a PR standpoint and SEO. Doesn't it hurt your website for Google to see poor performing social media accounts, just as the opposite would be true (good sm accounts and mention/activity would give you klout & SEO...)? What do you think? I'm no novice but no master either. Love this forum. Thanks in advance.

Is social media going to be the king of SEO?
Hi, Bit of a discussion really, every article out at the moment talking about SEO mentions how Social Media will take over in 2013. Is this really the case, should every SEO be focusing a large amount of time of Social Media? Far as im concerned I do a few things, try and build the social lists on different networks such as Facebook & Twitter also trying to get the list to engage with my posts and secondly social sharing from onsite content. Thats it at the moment.

Wordpress left side share buttons
Looking online I noticed sites like mashable listing share buttons on the left of the screen I think this is a great idea and a lot more prominent. So I then looked at the current solution we have on wordpress that lists them at the bottom of the individual posts. does anyone know of any plugins that list the share buttons to the left of the page ?
