I have screaming frog too. But it crawls only website pages. All of those are fine.

Pretty much all errors I get are for images on my website. So basically for separate files.

Also wanted to ask.

Could this type of 8xx error problem be caused by one of the plugins in WP? Around that time I installed Optimise plugin (which was suggested by WP Engine to speed up my site)

Another thing I noticed that when all this 803/804 issue started my crawled page amount almost doubled.

I have a photography website with loads of photos. So it treats all photos as a separate pages and brings all these 8xx errors.

Should I be doing something about this?

Is there another tool I could use to crawl my whole website to understand if that is only MOZ problem or could be something bigger.

So errors keep creeping up and I have noticed significant drop in my website rankings too. So there is definitely a problem.

Seems like here is many threads on what is the problem, but no solution how exactly to fix it.

Even MOZ guys are shaking heads and not sure what to do about it.

Hello,

Just was checking my backlinks and I see that few very strong backlinks are not showing up in my links list. I check with Moz bar in my browser and those are all dofollow links.

Some of those sites link back to me a while ago.

This is the one MOZ did tests with and they said that Roger can't crawl site because of that SNI support issue. I got A- grade so I guess all should be good.

So got the response from Moz about this issue and seems like I can't do anything about and it is common problem with MOZ Roger boot.

My guess this is for both 803 and 804 errors.

" Unfortunately at this time our crawler isn't compatible with Server Name Indication (SNI). In general, SNI is a totally acceptable security configuration, but our crawler simply isn't equipped to be able to handle these settings.

If you are able to disable the SNI configuration on your site, then we should be able to crawl it normally. While it's something that we'd love to be able to accommodate for the future, we don't yet have the resources to be able to make those changes. "

Spoke with WP-Engine guys and they said it would be madness to disable this security option as it would definitely broke websites.

Sad face me and not sure what to do now.

Quick question. My server guys asking with what IP address MOZ is crawling my site. WP-Engine is saying that maybe they have blocked that IP address.

How do I find this IP address?

I have a web guy on board now and server guys too. Weird thing is that this just started now. Web guy was fixing some issues with code recently to speed up my site and working with Optimize plugin. Could be that something was affected there maybe.

Hello,

During my last two MOZ crawls over couple of hundred 803 errors showed up. Thought that this might stop, but nop still creeping up. Not sure what has caused this.

My server providers are WP-Engine and they already said that all good at their end.

Pretty much all of those errors are for photos on my blog. I'm a photographer.

I have a web guy as well, but he is not sure what to do now and how to get this fixed.

I have a question. Sorry if this is been answered before.

Recently I decided to do a little face lift to my main website pages. I wanted to make my testimonials more pretty. Found this great plugin for testimonials which creates shortcodes.

I love how it looks like, but just realised that when I use images in shortcodes, these are not picked up by search engines only text is.

Image search ability is pretty important for me and I'm not sure if I should stick with my plain design and upload images manually with all alt tags and title tags or there is a way to adjust shortcode so it shows images to search engines.

Thanks for response. So I went back and unchecked Strip the category base (usually /category/) from the category URL option and also

Redirect attachment URLs to parent post URL. option.

Hello all,

Something strange happened with my blog site.

I recently signed to MOZ tools.

Initially everything was fine, but during my last crawl I got loads of 404
pages.

Few days ago I was tweaking some settings in SEO plugin according to this post https://moz.com/blog/setup-wordpress-for-seo-success

What I noticed was that 404 pages were coming from my blog posts, but for
some reason category was missing in those posts.

For example this link is 404
https://a-fotografy.co.uk/inchcolm-island-wedding-photography-bailie

The one with category is

https://a-fotografy.co.uk/wedding-pictures/inchcolm-island-wedding-photography-bailie/

So basically for some reason category was missing.

Please let me know how can I fix this instead of doing hundreds of
redirects now.

I'm baby and family photographer. I have done my keyword research. Used Keyword tool. According to the research tool it says that highest local search traffic for baby market would be keywords like cute babies, baby pictures.

I asked many of my clients what they would enter in search box if they were to look for baby photographer. Pretty much everyone has said that there would be some form of photographer word in search term with baby word. So like baby photographer, photographers, baby photo studio etc. Unfortunately these type of terms are under 10 searches per month.

I have only two relevant pages to target these baby keywords. I'm really wondering who actually uses terms like cute babies, baby pictures. I have a feeling that those searches are made by like photo agencies, newspapers, stock libraries etc. I don't think mum who looks for photographer is suing these search terms.

When you do your research, do you take in account metrics or go by more human element and try to look at it from clients perspective. What they would be searching for?

I have tried to ask here few times, but it is pretty hard to get any guidance on navigation issue. If you could send me some information maybe on what you charge per hour on skype consults? I totally lost in what to do with my menu navigations as I think they are a bit hot mess now. Side bar, main bar, dropdowns etc.

I used to have this message, but thought this is a bad thing and was suggested to redirect www version to non www version. My current site is non www version.

so it is a-fotografy.co.uk

Do you think I should revert this back to www version? Why would I need to do this? Bit confused.

Hello,

A while ago I had a problem with open site explorer saying that I had a problems with redirects on my home page. There was 302 redirect and it was giving me information from my www domain rather then from non www domain. With your awesome help, this issue is sorted now and when I type in my non www domain, it doesn't give me that weird message anymore.

I have a different issue now.

For some reason when I enter non www domain it doesn't show links from www version.

I presume that this is affecting my site authority for non www version. Does it mean that link juice was not passed on to non www version from www version? Authority dropped by two points, but I'm not sure why.

I'm more interested to know why it doesn't show my links from www version on non www version. And is that affecting my sites rankings.

I love idea of including phone as I get mainly people calling me anyway. But if that would be active phone number which dials straight away, that could be cool.

Yes we have hamburger now. Let me get this right as I think we think the same. Are you recommending to add those subcategories ( gallery, prices, partners ) to the main existing hamburger, yes? And then make whole menu sticky, yes?

Do you think it could make sense to make 3 level menu. So main menu, sub category and then gallery, price etc menu?

Or Make main menu sticky and then hamburger with sub category and gallery, price etc menu?

Here is another thought I had,

What if I could make main menu as hamburger. Like I have now. Main menu and subcategory, but make sticky menu on top for side bar options ( prices, gallery etc?)

The little box you talking about. Where ddi you see that? Did you use tablet or phone? I guess it might be that widget box you talking about. I'm taking that away and will place as an image in actual content.

Good advise about menu of related articles.

When you say duplicate menu at the bottom, do you mean main menu or sidebar menu. At the moment I have only sidebar menu at the bottom.

I just looked at the sticky option. The skeleton you mentioned. I opened page on my mobile, but I didn't see the main menu. It was on my desktop, but not on the mobile so I'm not sure how does it work on mobile. Especially with two menus.

Does it mean that I would have two sticky menus on top? Like my main navigation one and one with secondary menu options?

I like idea of sticky, but just need to make sure that I don't confuse user

I have a little problem.

Not that long ago I launched my new site. Everything seems ok, but I'm not sure if it was clever idea to have  additional side bar menu option. I wanted relevant content to be accessible very easy without dropdown in main menu.

It looks ok on desktop, but we have a problem with mobile devices. Even main menu is a bit confusing and sidebar at the moment is at the bottom of each page. When I placed it on top of the page, we had problem with tablet users as it is showing side menu with blank page and content is almost below the fold.

I have a tool installed called usability tools and it shows how visitors are using my site.

The hard bit is that nobody on mobile devices are using sidebar and that means people visit one page and leave without exploring any additional resources.

Me and my developer are discussing that maybe we should have two main menu bars instead of sidebar, but I have no idea how this looks in real life.

What is the best practises for sidebar menus these days? Maybe we have a designer here who can help me with this and do some work?

I got web guy to fix the issue. Seems it should be fixed now and I should have 301 redirects.

Not sure why I still get that message in Open Site Explorer, but I have raised this with MOZ support.

Not to worry. I think my developer is stuck now and has no idea how to fix those 302 redirects. Yesterday I noticed that there were few more coming up.

Around 2 month ago I changed the site. I have a feeling that something went bad during that process.

Now I have hundreds of 404 errors in my webmaster tools and pretty much all of them are old pages and some even from previous website before that which was 3 years ago. Not sure where it is picking up this from.

I also noticed that my previous websites urls making 302 redirects and they redirect from https to http urls.

Here is what happened when we launched new site.

• Changed over to new site. I still had my http address then few weeks after launch we decided that in long term it would be better to have https secure line. Then he added that https and that is where problems started.

Seems like old site now is picking up this https as well and doing those 302 redirects.

I even don't know why my old site is still being crawled and giving me errors. Weird.

I have passed your reply to my developer and see what he will say.

My developer tried to fix this issue, but with no results.

Not sure what is wrong and why he can't fix it

According to webconfs header checker I still have 302 redirects.

I think the web guy made things even worse as on my current domain according to same header checker I have 400 bad request coming back.

Help please. Not sure what to do.

I don't know much about the code and he is saying that he has done everything possible.

I have spent few last days reading here in community and watching Moz videos about keyword research. I used keywords planner tool.

Here is the question.

When I researched keywords I took into account search traffic nationwide UK rather then my local search volume.

My photography business operates more for local customers rather then nationwide. Does it mean that I need to concentrate on my local city/region search volume rather then nationwide.

After I have done Nationwide keyword research I realised that most of those keywords which are with really high search volumes are pretty much non existent in my local search results. I meant to the point that keyword search volume is under 10. Considering that I have small number of pages i could use them for, my guess is that it is no point to target those high search volume keywords as most likely those won't be my clients anyway.

I might be getting all this wrong, but wanted to ask here.

I knew there is something weird going on.

My old www domain used to be very good in rankings and my guess now since there is 302 all link juice is not passed onto my new domain.

My current site is https://a-fotografy.co.uk/ not sure why it is redirecting to my old domain. Weird. My web developer couldn't explain this issue.

Saying that I also go my first analytics report and in priority issues I have

http://a-fotografy.co.uk   302 redirect and not sure where it is redirecting to.

If someone could shed some light of how to figure out how to find exactly what is redirecting to what and where is the problem.

Hello all.

I just received my first report fro Moz Analytics. Signed up here to see what problems my site might have and find out how to fix them.

On all of my issue pages I see notice with black dot saying that my urls are

Rel Canonical

Using rel=canonical suggests to search engines which URL should be seen as canonical.

I know that recently my web developer set up so that every url on my website has a rel=canonical as I think there was an issue with trailing slash.

Is this to be considered an issue or I can just leave it?
