RE: How can the differences between Moz and Majestic's link totals be explained?
Neither crawls the whole internet, same with bing Yahoo and Google each have a different index.
SEOMoz tries to crawl the pages that matter. I would suggest the links you find in most indexes are the better ones.

RE: Should you "rel=nofollow" picture links if you also have anchor text going to same page?
first lets separate PageRank for relevancy
Relevancy is passed once to a page, if you have 2 links to the same page then the link text from the first link will be used,
if that link is a image link then alt text will be used, but most say alt text does not have the same power as link text, so having the text link first on the page would help.
I don't no if no-following a link will move the relevancy to the next link, I think you may just lose the relevancy
PageRank is passed though all links, even no followed links. a no-followed link will use the same PR but it jus goes nowhere, it is wasted.
So links such as
page1
page2
page3
All links will pass relevancy and PRpage1
page1
page2
page3
all will pass PR split between al links, but the second link to page1 will not carry relevancy -
RE: Do we need to update our sitemaps each time our content changes?
I have to disagree, if you include <a><lastmod></a>2012-07-24T08:36:20Zlastmod> tag, then yes you should update it. Bing for example will ignore your site map if it is not accurate. The have a tolerance of about 2% errors.
If your site is only small, and all your pages are linked, then I would not even bother with a sitemap. Bing also stats that you should not list all your pages in a sitemap, but only your key pages.
Sitemaps don't help rankings only indexing, on large sites it is good to tell the search engine what pages have changed, or what pages are good pages to find links to other pages,

RE: Who is the Rand Fishkin of black hat seo?
There was a guy who went by the name "Earl Grey"
Rand can thank this man for getting him a break.
Earl Grey was interviewed by Neesweek as a Black Hat, when asked by the interviewer if he knew white hat SEO he could interview he gave Rands name, and SEOMoz boomed from that point.
Forgive me rand if i have not got the facts correct, but thats the routh story.

RE: Help on implementing schema.org in our hotel website
That i can not tell, you but i would say yes.
If uyou were a search engine and someone searched for a hotel, you can return a page with the term hotel on it, a page with a hotel object on it, or a page with a well filled in hotel object on it.
I would say that the latter is of much more use.

RE: Newbie quesiton
photography, photographer? the seqarch engine will make the link between the 2, but you will rankj higher for one than the other. you are correct about changing later, it causes some problems.
its also a lot of keywords for one page, you should try to optimize for one or two keywords per page.
deciding what difficulty level of keyword is really up to you. but me i would go for the top keyword, you will rank well for long tail as a consequence anyhow. -
RE: SEO list for creating the *perfect* website
#1 i would not use a CMS, i would code it from scratch and make sure I got a prefect score using the Bing SEO toolkit, making sure the search engines can crawl your site perfectly is something that is hard to fix later on down the road.
#2 I would make sure I have a good linking structure to allow link juice to flow to the correct places.
#3 I would think long and hard on my user friendly URL’s from the start
That’s a good start, I will let others add or subtract from the list. -
RE: Social Media Plugins advice - Google+ Pages - what is best for SEO?
I simular to john here. dont go ugly trying to cater for social media.
Is you industry one that is going to benifit from social media would be my first question.
Then if you decide it is, I would not have any link that is goiong to take users away from your page. A simple like button, OK -
RE: How good is Guest post after Penguin Update ?
To me guest posting is getting someone with a very good private blog where not just anyone can post. To get 30 in a month seem to me you are posting to places where it is open to the public.
If just anyone can post, then it is likely not of much value. -
RE: Web Strategy Conundrum
If you have one website, you will only get one location in google places. If you have more then one website you will split your ranking efforts.
do you post these prints to the customer or do they pick them up?
If you post they dont need to know where from
if they pick them up then showing the addresses will IMO get you more business than you will lose,as they will wonder why they cant know up front. Never give a customer anything to be suspicious about, getting a customer online is like trapping a rabbit, one false move and they are out of there.

RE: Does anyone think the <figcaption>attribute from HTML5 will have any influence for image search?</figcaption>
Good answer.
If i were a search engine, and some one searched for a blue widget, i could return a page that mentions a blue widget and has an image, that maybe of a blue widget. Or i could return your page that has a image marked up with HTML5, and microdata telling me that the image is in fact of a blue widget along with all the other details you can mark up with microdata and html5 telling me that the page has a lot of information about blue widgets, i know whitch one i would return to the user.

RE: Passing value in a subdomain
Lets say you had a domain xyz.com, and you had 3 peole tbhat had their own blogs
tom.xyz.com
dick.xyz.com
harry.xyz.comwel then search engines may see this as non related sites
but if you had a site clothing.com
and had shirts.clothing.com
and shorts.clothing.com
and pants.clothing.com
then search engines proobably will see them as the sameto help to make sure you are seem as one in the same site, do planty of linking betwen sites, haveing all your images and stayle sheets in teh parent domain will also help search engines see that you are one large site.
try to make the links both ways,i have done this on a few sites and i have had good results

RE: How will a sites ranking be affected??
It certainly can affect their rankings, it could improve them or decrease them.
Changing content can have a great affect a well as the design, bad crawlability can also have a great affect.
If the site is generating good income i would not be trusting this job to an amature with a off the shelf CMS.
There is also a change in site structure and 301's to consider.
Depedning in the current site, a rebuilt can oftem be a good chance to fix inbuilt problems. A lot deopends on your choice of devloper.

RE: How much does page load time affect SERPS?
Good to sees johns answer, as i always thought its overblown.
But having said that, i would be more worried about converion due to load time, if your page takes too long to load you will lose users. -
RE: How a site only with Frame can be at #1 google in a competitive keyword?
His site is pretty crappy, he has very little content, but you have less.
Write some text for your website, make sure all you images have alt tags, especialy the ones you are using for links, also as from a few weeks ago, google will rank sites that dont have content above the fold lower then sites that do, so you might need to rething the large images above the fold.
-
RE: Should I submit my articles to article submition sites myself or have a service submit my articles for me?
Article posting is mostly a waste of time.
dont bother posting to sites that are made just for placing articles. Rtry to get your article placed on a relevant site or blog that is not built just for that purpose.

RE: Web development - License CSS/Markup/Code
I have been a computer programmer / web developer for over 20 years and no it is not.

RE: Canonical links
It is a big factor, because your home page rank is split wetween the 2, what you want to do, is make sure you dont not have any links to the default.aspx version in your site, one would asume that you do for it to getinto the index.

RE: How to increase number of internal links
google will find them unless you have hidden them behind no-index, but the number of internal links is not important, what is important is your linking structure.

RE: Ranking #1 for decent traffic keywords, but not receiving any traffic?
I had a look, it is 1300 for broad, but only 28 for phrase, and 16 for exact, now to me, the words daytona and insurance, are not words i would expect to see in the same search term unless the were in a phrase or exact. so something does not seem right here.

RE: How important is w3c validation for mobile sites???
don't bother with w3.org for the reasons you point out.
I don't try to pass validation for the sake of passing, If the validation has logic behind it that concerns me then I take note.
I use Microsoft Visual Studio code analysis(fxcop) for server side code for performance and reliability , I use the JSHint and Web essentials (css) for client side code, I use the Bing SEO API for SEO, all of these are built into Visual Studio, I also use the IIS Bing SEO Tools for a more detailed look at the SEO.
I just ran a site of mine though w3.org and they gave me 3 errors, all nonsense
for example
Line 5, Column 59: Bad value X-UA-Compatible for attribute http-equiv on element meta. This is the correct tag to tell Internet explorer how to render the page, if you listen to the w3.org, then you page will not render correctly in IE.

RE: Blog Comment IPs Seen By Google?
No not all all, they would not know what IP the comments came from, and really is no business of theirs anyhow.
the comments and the rest of your content are all requsted from your ip number, no matter what ip number the comment maker came from.

RE: Indexing well in Google but not in Yahoo/Bing - WHY?
Bing have made it clear that they will not index all pages, it is their policy to index only the best pages.
you can use BWMT to put urls directly into the index, Bing will give anny page a trial, but may boot it out again if not deemed usefull.

RE: Hyphens vs Underscores
Donford is correct in that is what matt cutts said, but i bet you if matts cutts main souce of income came from his web site he would change them.
You will lose a some link juice if you 301 redirect, i would look at the in-comming links, if the pages in question have little in links then i would change them. If you do, make sure you change all youyr internal links to point to the new format, dont allow internal links to go thought a redirect when you have controle of them.

What sort of server is your website running on or do you have a URL i can check?

RE: URL Rewrite
not sure what type of server you are using, but with Microsoft IIS this is very easy to do, its matter of filling in a dialog box and all needed steps are done for you. see dialog box half way down page
http://www.seomoz.org/ugc/microsoft-technologies-and-seo-web-developmentThere are 3 steps you need to think about,
first the url rewrite,
second the is the corresponding 301 redirect
third either you mush change every url in the website, or you need to write a outbound urlrewrite so that links show freindly urls to vistors.
also why rewrite to '.html' thee is no need for it, simpley
'http://www.agroads.com.ar/humedimetro-para-cereales-draminski-gmm-139592' would bne the way to go.

RE: Can Anyone Explain Ranking Drop?!?
I was refereing to the largest peice of text in grey. what text is left is very thin. much of it the same.
There are many pages that do have the same title of description, for example 224 page habvbe this description
"Plastic Storage Bins has the lowest prices on Plastic Bins, Plastic Containers
and Wire Shelving Units with shelf bins or stacking bins. 888-999-6099"As for un-necessary redirects
The link to "http://plasticstorage.com/plastic-storage-specials.html" has resulted in HTTP redirection to "http://plasticstorage.com/plastic-storage-specials".
The link to "http://plasticstorage.com/plastic-bins-stackable.html" has resulted in HTTP redirection to "http://plasticstorage.com/plastic-bins-stackable".
The link to "http://plasticstorage.com/wire-shelving.html" has resulted in HTTP redirection to "http://plasticstorage.com/wire-shelving".
The link to "http://plasticstorage.com/plastic-bins-stackable/quantum.html" has resulted in HTTP redirection to http://plasticstorage.com/plastic-bins-stackable/quantum.
I assume you want friendly urls, but if you have internal links to the old urls, you will get un-necessary redirects, each one losing link juice.
I use the Bing SEO Toolkit that sees exactly what Bing sees, it sees 3868 of them each one leaking link juice.

RE: Duplicate Domain Listings Gone?
Maybe.
I have the #1 position for a corner of the market, but I could not get a second page on the front page, seeing I had #1 I hade a second site and then had 1# and #2,soi made another, I now have 3 on first page, once you have #1, this seems they way to go.

RE: Multiple local addresses for one domain
Here is what googles states
Businesses that operate in a service area, as opposed to a single location,
should not create a listing for every city they service. Businesses that operate
in a service area should create one listing for the central office or location
and designate service areashttp://support.google.com/places/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=107528

RE: How can I get Google to crawl my site daily?
sitemap should show daily, but only for pages you intent to change daily. I got the idea from a Matt Cutts video, that they only honour the sitmap if they find it to be reliable. if you say daily but never update the content, then its not going to work.

RE: Why does my on-page report card say my page title is 403 forbidden when its not?
Juist crawled your site and got this
The link to 'http://www.robinsonsofbawtry.com/' has resulted in an error.
Details: 403 ForbiddenCant see anything wrong aty a glance, may be your server cant handle being crawled, witch of cause is not good
-
RE: Canonical tags
No really, in robots you can block one of them, but that does not stop people from linking to both.
By far the best is not to have 2 urls
next is a 301,
then a canonical
and last would be to use robots.txt

RE: Archive of content

RE: How do I redirect non www pages to www on a windows server?
go to yout iis server control panel look for url rewriting, if it is not there install it using web platform installer.
then it is a simple ass picking it from a list.
You can also do it in code, using a class inherting the httpmodule this intercepts request before reaching website.
But the easiest way is using the URL rewriting as i suggested.
If tyou dont have access. plonk this in your web.config, change from mydomain.com.au to your own domain
<system.webserver>
<rewrite><rules><rule name="CanonicalHostNameRule"><match url="(.*)"><conditions><add input="{HTTP_HOST}" pattern="^mydomian.com.au$" negate="true"></add></conditions>
<action type="Redirect" url="<a href=" http:="" mydomain.com.au="" {r:1"="">http://mydomain.com.au/{R:1}" />
</action></match></rule>
<rule name="LowerCaseRule" stopprocessing="true"><match url="[A-Z]" ignorecase="false"><action type="Redirect" url="{ToLower:{URL}}"><conditions><add input="{URL}" pattern="WebResource.axd" negate="true"><add input="{URL}" pattern="Scripts" negate="true"><add input="{URL}" pattern="Content" negate="true"></add></add></add></conditions></action></match></rule></rules></rewrite>
</system.webserver> -
RE: Changing Title Tags once Indexed and positioned?
If you want to rank for the new term then do it. This is what it is for.
If you have a title of ABC and you change it to ABC XYZ
You may not rank quite as well for ABC anymore but you will rank for XYZ and ABC XYZ.
It is shown that the first word of your tile carries more weight then the second and so on, it is also shown that a title has so much power that is split between the terms. In other words if you are a only child you will inherit all your parents wealth, but if you have many brothers and sisters you will only get a fraction of that wealth. so the shorter yopur title the more credit each word will get.

RE: Canonical URL
It is just telling you that you have canonical tag. It is good to know as a cononical tag that is wrong can do harm. so just knowing that a page has one, can alert a webmaster.
Assume you see a canonical tag in a page that you dont remeber puting one, you look and it is pointing at a different page, you then relize you had meant to put in in another page but had put it in the wrong page. if you were not alerted it could of stayed for years doing lots of damage.
Image you find that all pages have a cannonical, you find that you had put a canonical tag in the master page and now only one page is in the index, seeing this in the notices can alert you to this early
Thats why it is a notice noty a error or warning.
-
RE: Indexation problem
If you look at your source code and find this variable "availableLugares" it has a value that is so large that the search engine may not be reaching your content, I mean it is really large.
it looks like some json data, you should put it into a external js file

RE: Subdomains & SEO
If you want to rank for car rentals, i would have a seperate page for it, i would not 301 back to homepage there would be on no use of having a different url in teh first place. it would be in fact leak a bit of link juice as 301's leak link juice.
If you havge a lot of content for car rentals i would go for the sub domain. I have always prefered sub domains to sub directories but 2 recent development have pushed me further that way.
1. google WMT now count links from sub directories to a root directories as internal links and assume ownership of sub domains simply if you own the root domain, unless the sub domain has been verified but somone else.2. Site links for a root domain include pages from sub domains.
In my expirences link juice flows freely from root to sub domains and back if you have stronng internal linking structure from sub domains to root domains and back..

RE: Are Meta-keywords coming back?
Yes you should use the keywords tag, Bing uses it as a signal.
A good and recommended use is misspellings of keywords and alternative keywords
