I am completely stuck on one of my SEO accounts. In Search Queries (the OLD search), it is showing me that my client is ranking for keywords on pages that I know they are not ranking for. They are ranking for keywords in New Jersey when they are not New York. No where on the website do we say anything about New Jersey at all. So it makes absolutely no sense.

Then in Search Analytics, the data seems to be much more accurate. All the New Jersey keywords are gone. But then the clicks are all ZERO! Which I know is wrong because they are showing up in Google Analytics.

I have been at this for over a week now and I am racking my brain trying to figure out how to fix this. Anyone have any advice?

So we are working on our citations. Now the issue is (not really an issue, but it is definitely very annoying) is that we have multiple locations. I get that you need to then have multiple listings. Where I get baffled is that I have read that you will then need to have more than 1 google + account for the different addresses. That seems like a lot of work to keep two google + accounts updated. Is this a must for SEO purposes?

Those were just samples. There are hundreds of these types of links!

I have a new client who had an old SEO firm that I believe was putting spammy links together for them. The firm has very good links mixed in with them so I am wondering if it even matters. They are ranked 4/10 and have a DA of 47. So it doesn't seem it is really hurting them too badly.

Below are some examples of some of the sites I found in the Open SIte Explorer. I wanted to get another opinion on if the below hurt/help/does nothing. I was thinking it hurts more than helps. Topic of his website is a marketing firm.

Yeah makes sense. I guess the answer is to take them off all together! Or put them on the homepage with nofollow and only on the homepage.

What if the client has awesome SEO themselves and a high domain authority etc.

I know there have been several people who have asked this but a lot of them were back in 2012 before many of the google changes. My question is the same though.

With all the changes with Google's algorithm. Is it okay to put your link on the bottom of your clients website. Like Web Design by, etc. Part of the reason is to drive traffic but also if someone is actually interested who designed the website, they will click it. But now reading about how bad links can hurt you tremendously, it makes me second guess if this is ok. My gut feeling says, no.

Thanks Kate - I don't really have a specific keyword in mind. But I did some research and another good example is Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi and WiFi are both searched different amounts. Wi-Fi is the right way to spell it but WiFi is searched more in MOST cases. There ARE instances that it is not. So WiFi Services is searched more than Wi-Fi Services however Wi-Fi Consulting is searched mroe than WiFi Consulting.  So should I keep with one spelling throughout the site or mix it up according to the keyword?

I said that it wasn't the keyword issue I was having - I was using it as an example. The issue is more of a general question. If you have a word that is suppose to be spelled with a "-" but more people search without, should you do the proper thing and put the - or do it without to go after high searched keywords? it's also a consistency question too. Sometimes different forms of that keyword are used, so should you use the "-" throughout or do whatever the best keyword is. Is user experience and consistency more important than SEO?

My question is: If you have a keyword that is searched more when it's spelled wrong then when it's spelled right - what do you do? Do you do the misspelled word or keep true to the spelling and say oh well to SEO?

Also - Along the same lines of that question: What if you have a keyword that has a - in the middle of it. For instance: website and web-site (this isn't the keyword just an example). and drupal website is searched more then drupal web-site but wordpress web-site is searched more then wordpress website. Technically website is the correct spelling and way to write it, but people put web-site (again not the case in reality - just an example).

I actually feel really stupid When I moved it over I forgot to put the analytics. It was driving me absolutely NUTS! Thank you so much for your response.

So I have a site that was getting about 200 hits (not a lot). They came to me and asked to do SEO. There were over 50 pages in HTML format so I created header/footers and changed the .html pages to .php. I set forwards up in the htaccess and everything. I did everything that I was suppose to. Now when I go to the analytics it almost looks like it lost all it's traffic from the keywords it was ranked in. Any ideas on why?

Ryan, as I agree with you that it's not a huge factor - if a factor at all, registering your domain for longer than a year has been proven to actually help. The reason is because google doesn't think you are a spam site. If you have a site that has no past and you come and register for a year only, google will look at that as a spammy site. Now if you have had 10 years and you register for a year it's not as big as a deal (as you said). So I think it depends on what your circumstances are.

The easiest thing to do is to download a SEO plugin for Firefox or Chrome. SEOmoz actually has a really good. Once that is downloaded and they start looking into good sites to link build with, you need to explain to them the importance of quality. A lot of companies are not putting their time into finding quality and it will eventually down grade you. Maybe for a short term it will do well, but in the long run it will not. The ones I look at are inbound links, domain authority, linking domains, and domain trust. I make sure that they are all good. After I find a good site, I make sure that the site has follow links. If you have Chrome, there's an awesome really easy tool called SEO for chrome that allows you to click a button and it will highlight those that are not follow links. I have this permanently on. THe last thing I check is that the page where my link is going to go also has a good page authority/page rank. This is also really important.

They are both good links, just saying is there a big difference between related content and non-related content. Has nothing to do with link farms or anything. Both are good sites.

Are link farms still bad? I still am not sure about this question. I know that some people still do link farms. If they are bad, wouldn't a directory be considered a link farm? For instance I can get my site on a .EDU, but it will just be a list of links. Is that bad?

My main question is if you had a choice between a PR 7 site and a PR 4-5 site that was relative and related to your website content, which would be a better choice? Does relativeness matter anymore?

What's a good Text To HTML ratio for a website?

The best thing that I have done so far is article building. Than again they do say now that it's not "good" to share your content across the web and that google will only use the first article. So sometimes I change the article around a little bit. The trick is to actually put GOOD content up! Don't put crap out there that no one wants to read. If you put good stuff out there people will link to you. I have over 10,000 links to my site and most of it is from people reposting my blogs! I also get a lot of traffic from this.

I'm not a big fan of the link farm (you post of mine and I'll post on yours) type deal. I think it's cheesy and it can actually get you in trouble.

About linkmarket, that's a site that does definitely look like it can get you in more trouble than help you. Put it this way, I've got 10,000 links (and a lot of them are high quality) and I didn't pay for one single link. Granted I agree that when you do the article building way there is potential to get some low end links, but it's better than nothing.

Yeah I have that set up already and we are doing long tail keywords. We get almost 50k/month so there's a lot of keywords to be searched.

We're trying to increase sales.

Well I've been increasing traffic, but the conversion rate has stayed relatively the same if not gone down. I only do White Hat SEO tactics, but I wasn't sure if there was a better way to do SEO for product sites verses a non product site.

If you want to get conversion rate up what is the best method to do so?
