Hi Dan,
I know this is an old question but I wanted to ask if using MultiSite and Domain Mapping had any negative impact on search rankings? Or do the search engines treat the mapped domain as a completely unique domain?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Dan,
I know this is an old question but I wanted to ask if using MultiSite and Domain Mapping had any negative impact on search rankings? Or do the search engines treat the mapped domain as a completely unique domain?
Thanks in advance.
Hello,
With WordPress MultiSite, does Domain Mapping negatively impact search rankings? I am wondering if the search engines can tell if the Domain is part of a MultiSite Network. Or does it just see the site as a regular website? I understand the issue of IP Address and C Blocks but I'm wondering if the search engines will treat a Mapped Domain Name as it would any other website that is on a shared hosting account.
Thanks
you don't believe it increases the chance a person will fill in the contact page? I'm trying to increase my conversion rates.
I am looking to add a contact form onto my home page and I was wondering if it made sense to change my index.html to an index.php.
If i do make this change, would it have any impact on my search rankings?
No problem, Thanks again for your help. It is greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your response. What is the ideal home page structure for a local Real Estate Site?
Do you know of any realtors that are doing their on page seo correctly?
Thank you for your reply. I am trying to find a balance between Words, Pictures and Video. Obviously the search engines like worded content, but Pictures Speak a thousand words and Video is even better in some aspects. Do you know of any sites that are in the service industry like Real Estate that strike a good balance?

What impact does page speed have on rankings in the search engine?
If I have a Site that is heavy with Pictures, Onsite videos and various scripts that would ultimately be of good use to a viewer but takes time to load.
VS
A Site that has pictures that are fully optimized for the web or eliminated to save on load time, Videos that are hosted on Sites like VIMEO or You Tube and eliminate scripts where possible and use css3. Note the site loads faster and is better for mobil but doesn't have the same feel of the first site but is useful to the user.
Now let's say that both sites are virtual twins in terms of their link profile, age, content quality, location and citations.
Will one rank better because of load time?
It's the quest for creating the ultimate site for users while delivering it within the fastest time possible.
I have read that now you can have multiple h1 tags on a page without it negatively impacting SEO. Previously it was advised to only have 1 h1 tag on a page.
Example: with the new semantic mark up you could have separate h1 tags for the header, article, aside and footer.
Is this really the case?
Thank you for your thorough response. After reading your response it really does make perfect sense.
What is your perspective on Local SEO and strategies to reach a prominent position.
Do google and bing factor in how many people visit your site per month to determine your serps rankings?
If so, does it matter if they visit your site by searching a keyword phrase or by typing in the name in the search bar?
My instinct tells me that if the search engine sees 1000 hits per month for a site by keyword phrase and that is high for the industry then they might rank that site higher in the serps.
I was wondering if the same would be true if the site is designed and coded properly for a keyword phrase but receives the same 1000 hits per month from visitors typing in the sites name in the search field rather than the search phrase, would that then translate to higher rankings for the keyword phrase?
Thanks for your help.

With 2012 coming to an end and 2013 just around the corner. What direction should we be taking our SEO Efforts?

Seems like the seo jury has spoken and CSS it is. Thank you all for your help on this matter. Thumbs up to you all.
For a user / seo perspective, what is the best way to code a drop down menu nav bar? Is it best to use css, javascript or a scripting library like jquery?
I am thinking about overall best practice that will not have a negative impact on serps.
I am also thinking about what will work best on all types of devices i.e. desk tops, lap tops, smart phones and tablets.
What are the Pro's & Cons of Using CSS for Drop Down Menus.
What are the Pro's & cons of using Javascript for drop down menus.
And the same question for jquery.

I'd rather have 10 links from the NY Times than 100 links from no name sites. That being said, if you could get the NY Times, Wall Street Journal, NY Daily News and the NY Post to link to your site, now that'll be valuable. Can you tell I'm from New York?
At the end of the day you want links from multiple trusted sites.
If I want to transfer my website from yahoo to another web host without having any down time how would I do that?
I have reached out to several hosting companies and they stated that my site will be down for 24 to 48 hours if I transfer my site over to their service.
I am sure that this would impact my rankings for having the site down. They said it's because I will need to update the domain servers.
Is there any way to prevent downtime while transferring a site?
Thank you for your answer. I was also wondering what is your opinion on Rankings impact from changing Host providers?
I ask this because my current Web Host doesn't allow me to do a 301 redirect.
I have heard that changing providers can negatively impact search rankings because of the change of IP Address.
Note: my concern is duplicate content and split links to my site. From www and non-www version of home page along with the index.html version.
I like to prepare in advance for future Algo Changes. With that said it is probably best not to get into the habit of putting the same 3 links on the blog post.
It is best to stick to the White Hat techniques. I just think about it this way. If my business is my website and I finally start generating a nice income from it and I violate some rule that shuts me down, how will that impact my lifestyle?
Any recommendations on hosting providers? I am based out of the Bronx in New York.
I have links pointing to both versions but the majority being the www version. I am based out of New York and I was wondering if hosting with a New York Web host would benefit or not.
Is having a 301 redirect a must for rankings when it comes to the www and non-www version of a site?
I am on the bottom of page 1 for my main key phrases but I can't do a 301 redirect with my web host that I've been with for over a year.
I've been considering changing web host (currently with Yahoo) but I also have concerns about transferring the site and the impact it might have because of the changing ip address.
So my options are
Which would you recommend?
From an SEO perspective what are the advantages of VPS Hosting VS Shared Hosting for a local website that has less that 200 pages and gets max 2000 hits per month?
Is VPS Hosting worth the extra expense for a local Real Estate Website?
Thank you for your advice. I have heard from some companies that changing hosts changes the ip address and this can have an impact.
My key issue is that i need a 301 redirect because both the www and non-www version come up as two different sites.
I have told google and bing through the webmaster tools which I prefer and I've put in the canonical link tag in the head of my doc but I hear it still needs a 301 redirect.
Question, are they worth the price? WHat in your opinion sets them apart from others and how would their service benefit local seo efforts?
I have been wondering for a while which web host provider is the best for SEO purposes?
Things to consider.
One question that I have been thinking about is what impact would changing a host provider have on a websites serps ranking? Is there a possible negative impact and if so how can it be avoided?
Name the top 3 Web Hosts for SEO.
The rule of thumb is that the no follow attribute doesn't pass any link juice but in my humble opinion I have personally seen sites that would not get discovered otherwise with no other links pointing to it and on page seo not so great get discovered and started to rank well relatively quick because a link does exist. Also it has been mentioned in the past that a good link profile should incorporate both followed and no followed links.
Your clients opposition might have a healthy mix of followed and no followed links. Also Domain age plays a factor as well. Were they ranking higher than you from the beginning or did they all of a sudden shout up in the serps?
I also have the same problem. There are links that are pointing to my site that are not showing up on OSE. These are old links. I'm thinking OSE doesn't capture all inbound links.
What I like to do is use the link operator in chrome or safari
use link: then the name of your site without the www or the .com. This will give you a list of every site that mentions your site.
I would then make a list of all those sites and then use the seo tool bar for Firefox to see if they are followed or no followed links.
How effective is rank tracking when google tends to deliver personalized search?
I tend to clear out my browser of all info, cookies and cache so I can get the best results but how effective are rank tracking algo's in delivering accurate results. I run various apps and tests and I get different results.
I see the pic for the www version but not the non www version. How do I fix that?
I believe I've done the authorship. How can i verify that I've done it correctly?
My site is hosted by Yahoo and I don't have htaccess, what do I do in this case?
I previously set the canonical Url in google web masters to the non www version, when I check my on page opt, it tells me that I have a critical issue with this. Should I change it in google web masters back to the www version? if so is there the possibility of negative results?
Or is there a better way to deal with this?
Note, I have inbound links pointing to both types.
Thank you Dana, how do I apply Schema Mark up to my site? And where should I focus my efforts?
How do I implement both Schema and Rich Snippets and how beneficial are they to SEO and the Serps?
