Google looks at many different factors when setting rankings. Authority sites that are very close to trusted sites and are related to the topic. The content of the site and the amount of traffic it gets will help Google determine how popular a site is. If the site has a lot of high-quality backlinks that are related to the topic, and if those backlinks come from high authority sites that will help them move up in the rankings.
There is no magic way to rank number one for a particular search term. These factors help though:
- Content directly related to the search term used.
- The Page Authority and Domain Authority of the site are important. Especially a high (DA) Domain Authority score.
- Lots of generic traffic to the page targeting the search term.
- A lot of very high quality backlinks from sites related to the topic and page.
It takes a lot of work to rank number one for a search term. Quality content that is 10 times better than any other page on the topic and you can probably be on the first page.
