Weekly on-page SEO report problem
I just got my first on-page SEO report, and only got report on 3 random keywords in my list of keywords.
Why don't I get a report on the other keywords? Is there a certain reason for why I get only those specific keywords?
Thanks in advance.

RE: Can you change meta description at any time without loosing rankings?
Right. Thanks for the advice again! I will definitely go for custom meta descriptions in the near future.
Cheers

RE: Can you change meta description at any time without loosing rankings?
Thanks askshopper!
Would having the same meta description through out the site (for a while) be a bad thing? Or could I have it like that for the time being?
I can't change them right now because of some issues with my developers atm.

Can you change meta description at any time without loosing rankings?
I'm wondering if it is possible to change the meta description of a page on your site at any time without it affecting rankings on google?
Is it only changing how my SERP looks? Or could bad things happen to changing your meta description?
Appreciate all opinions on this one, thank you guys!

RE: SEO plugin by Yoast messing up my title/meta description
That did the trick! Thanks for the support.
Have a great weekend.

RE: SEO plugin by Yoast messing up my title/meta description
Awesome, thanks Marcus!
Just one last thing, where can I in an easy way see what my title and meta description/title is? To see if it works.
-
RE: SEO plugin by Yoast messing up my title/meta description
In the plugin this code is put in the title template box: %%sitename%% %%page%% %%sep%% %%sitedesc%%
Maybe this is the reason why title and tag line/meta description is put as title? The "%%sitedesc%%" should perhaps be put in the Meta description template beneath?
-
RE: SEO plugin by Yoast messing up my title/meta description
I tried disabling, and what I got now was an empty title. What does that tell me?
That's the problem, part of the title should be in the meta description (as it is put under "tag line" in wordpress settings > general.
Put the tagline is shown right after the title in the title.

RE: SEO plugin by Yoast messing up my title/meta description
Marcus,
First of all, thanks for the reply!
I will try to disable the plugin and see what happens.
Where do need a link? Here is to the blog in question blogg.loveday.se (don't know if it is of any use though, as it is in swedish).

SEO plugin by Yoast messing up my title/meta description
Hey guys,
I'm having some issues with my wordpress blog, and I believe SEO plugin by Yoast could be the one causing it.
I have set a title for my wordpress blog, and a tagline. This was set in dashboard > settings > general
Under "titles and metas" > home in the plugin it says, title: %%sitename%% %%page%% %%sep%% %%sitedesc%%, and meta description is blank.
The reports on seomoz says my title is title+meta description - making it to long (to many characters).
What could be the issue here?
Thanks in advance!

RE: Changing a blog url from subdomain to subfolder
Cool! Thanks Chris, I am following the guide you linked. Looks like I will be able to manage the move.
I will have you personally responsible if things get messed up
-
RE: Changing a blog url from subdomain to subfolder
Yes, exactly. Moving it, including everything from plugins to blog posts - and without a lot of errors such as links to the old domain.
Would you suggest I find out how to do it rather than taking the route I described in the question? Do you have any guide that you suggest I follow?
Thanks

Changing a blog url from subdomain to subfolder
I am abou to change my company blog from a subdomain (blog.mydomain.com) to a subfolder (mydomain.com/blog), from suggestions from this awesome community!
Not only that though, because the current blog is on another server than the main site I have to move my blog between servers as well.
This will be a big hassle for me, and means a big risk for errors as I don't have a clue what I am doing on the development part. Hint: I'm no developer.
My blog is fairly new, having posted 18 blog posts so far. There is no major linking to or from the blog as it has been basically no activity on the blog.
It has been fairly good optimized for SEO, with custom plugin settings for Wordpress SEO plugin and similar. Also followed advice from Rand regarding wordpress SEO.
So I guess my question is:
Would it be a big loss for me to just start over with a new blog on the subfolder domain? And move content over from the old blog manually (and then deleting the old one).
Or would It be plain stupid taking that route?
Thankfull for all help I can get!

RE: Open Site explorer shifting results - which to trust and not to trust?
Peter,
Thanks for the reply. I tried deleting the question when I saw that it was an issue with Open Site explorer (read the updated question above), but as seomoz wouldn't let me (it only returned 404-page every time, I used the same question to type a new one.
Your answer was of great help anyways. But would be great if you could help me with the new one.

Open Site explorer shifting results - which to trust and not to trust?
I was doing a search on Open Site Explorer, comparing my site with competitors in the field.
When looking under the Page Specific Metrics tab I first got the results that I had no internal links whatsoever, and 8 external links in total.
I had a page authority of 34, and so on.
Then I saw it suggested that my domain was redirecting to www.mydomain.com/ (a slash at the end), even though this is wrong. But I clicked the "see this url instead" and now the results changed a lot.
It now shows that I have 72 internal links, and 6 external links. And also a lower page authority of 28.
Now you might say it is because I changed the url to the one with a slash, but I changed back to the one without a slash (and now I don't get the message about the redirect).
What's up with open site explorer? What results should I trust?

RE: Adding keyword to your url
Alright.
But, looked at a WBF with Rand and he said something like: "Use targeted keywords in the url string . This adds relevancy for rankings, assists searchers/users identifying the page content/topic when viewing url, provides value when used as the anchor text/referral link."
So what he is saying here is that I should have keywords in my url for sub pages when possible? And not the home page.
-
Adding keyword to your url
Couldn't find the answer to my question anywhere so I'll give it a try here.
If you have a site called www.example.com, and then want to add a keyword to this site, like this: www.example.com/keyword
How do you add a keyword to your url like this? Without making the URL with the keyword your "main" URL, meaning you don't have to enter the keyworded URL to get to the homepage (www.example.com), and still rank better on the keyword put in the url.
I'm a bit confused on the subject, would love for someone to help me understand!
Thanks.

RE: A "show all" category for products resulting in to many on-page links
Alright, thank you veru much. The link was very helpful as well!

A "show all" category for products resulting in to many on-page links
I've got reports from my seomoz pro campaign that I have more than 100 on-page links on a page of my ecommerce store.
This page is a "show all" category displaying ALL products from ALL my categories on the site. So it is NOT a "show all" for displaying all products in a certain category on one page instead of having to click through page 1, page 2 etc.
What I don't clearly understand is why I get this from the reports, as it does not display all products in one single page. What it does is gathering all products from all categories in one place, but instead of showing all products in one page it is divided into pages 1 - 13.
What should I do to resolve this? Could it be the seomoz campaign giving me an incorrect result?
Appreciate you taking the time to help! Thank you.

RE: Duplicate content from category pages?
It's only the product name in the category listings. Great! Thanks a lot Nakul.

RE: Duplicate content from category pages?
Alright. My website is just a few months old and I haven't been that active promoting it or improving it (until just a few weeks back now).
My domain authority I would say is very low, maybe you know a way I can find out exactly what it is?
We have less than 200 products on the site, and as stated earlier 3-4 out of 10 is visible in more than one category (duplicated).
Does this give you any indication on my situation, to be able to give me advice on what to do to resolve this?
Once again, thank you for your patience!
-
RE: Duplicate content from category pages?
So if it is the same URL to the product page in both categories it is visible, it's no problem at all?
For example:
Product X is visible in two categories, category Y and category Z.
I first visit the product through category Y, and the URL is: www.example.com/productx/1
And I then visit the same product, but this time through category Z. The URL for the product page is exactly the same: www.example.com/productx/1And there is no sign of redirect, as I should see a reload of the page changing the url when I first land on the product page, right?
Would be great if you could get give green light! Or tell me what to do if there still is a problem after all. Thanks!

RE: Duplicate content from category pages?
As I read the posts you suggested, I realized I was not clear enough when I wrote my question.
What the "show all" means on my page is that it shows ALL products from ALL categories in a new/separate category called "show all".
So it is NOT as in the example on google webmasters blogpost, that it is a "show all" alternative in every single category showing that category products on one page.
Hope I was more clear this time! Thank you for your patience.
-
RE: Duplicate content from category pages?
Thanks for the response Nakul!
I would say that 3-4 out of 10 products are shown in more than one category. As for how many categories I have, there is 18 unique categories (and then you have the "show all" on top of that).
Our domain authority is pretty low so far (working on it ;). Our site was launched just a couple months back and we havn't been that active with improving it until just a few weeks back.
I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "page 1, page 2 and a show all"? Nor, "Is it to land on Page 1 or the View-All page". What page are you talking about when you say Page 1?
If I understand you correctly, we do have several pages of products under the "show all" category (i.e. it's not displaying all products in one single long page).
The products in the "show all" category are exact duplicates from the ones in the specific categories. The products in "show all" are unique from each other though.
You are very helpful! I'm just trying to understand more clearly.

Duplicate content from category pages?
I have an ecommerce store with different categories for my products. Some products do appear in more than one category, is that an issue even if you end up on the same product page/link?
Also, I have a "show all products" category, which I believe creates duplicate content too?
What is your take on this? What can I do to solve this? Is it even an issue of duplicate content?
All answers are very much appreciated!

RE: Same Meta Description on all pages harmful?
Thanks for the response. Appreciate it.
You are absolutely right, it is enough reason. I was just curious to see other reasons to why having unique meta descriptions is the way to go, from someone more experienced!
-
Same Meta Description on all pages harmful?
As the question title suggests, is it harmful (on Google) for a site to use the same meta description sitewide? On every single page.
If not, is there any particular benefit to crafting a unique meta description for every page besides CTR on google searches.
What do you think?
Thanks in advance!

RE: Where a Blog should be located?
Having it on a subfolder totally makes more sense. I dont understand why I didn't see that before!
What if you have an "established" blog put on a subdomain (at least 20 posts in total), is there anything in particular I should know when transferring my blog to be on a subfolder on my main site instead?
Without messing it up with links etc.
Would really appreciate an response here instead of creating a new Q!

RE: Best practice to solve this Unique duplicate page content issue?
Ahh, I see! Thanks a lot. Really appreciate it.
I also found from reading one of evovlingSEO's blog posts that with the help of checking my google webmasters account for any reports on duplicate content, I could see if Google had found any duplicate content.
There was no reports on this, so I guess it could be Roger crawling pages that Google don't? But I can see from viewing my source code that the code snippet you suggested me to add isn't there.
I will get back when I know if it's been solved or not for sure!
Thanks again.

RE: Best practice to solve this Unique duplicate page content issue?
When looking at this link: http://www.loveday.se/personifering/1/utan-facebook
I get these sample URLs (It says it's a total of 50 duplicate URLs):
http://www.loveday.se/personifering/168/julkortshanghttp://www.loveday.se/personifering/145/far-motherfucker
http://www.loveday.se/personifering/123/prispokal
http://www.loveday.se/personifering/136/gravitation
http://www.loveday.se/personifering/63/fing-love-you
I'd say that out of all the 160 duplicate content pages, 99.9% of them have the same link path of http://www.loveday.se/personifiering/... Which is the customization page.

Best practice to solve this Unique duplicate page content issue?
I just got Seomoz Pro (it's awesome!), and when I did a campaign for my website I discovered that I have a big issue with duplicate page content (as well as titles).
The Crawl Diagnostics Summary told me I have 196 Crawl Errors Found (I had a total of 362 pages crawled on my site), and as much as 160 of these was duplicate page content. Which to me sounds like a big problem, correct me if I'm wrong (I'm very new to SEO).
So our website is an ecommerce that sells greeting cards. The unique part about our platform is that we offer the customer to make a customization of the cards.
Let me walk you through each step a customer takes so you fully understand:-
They find a card they like and visit the product page of that card (just like on any ecommerce store.)
-
They then decide they want to buy it. There is no "Add to cart" button, they will instead click on a "customize the card" button.
3) This takes them to a step by step process of customizing the card. They change the name on the front of the greeting card so it says for example: "Happy Birthday Katy!". And then adds a personal text on the inside of the card.
- They then add an delivery address and when it should be delivered. After that they proceed to checkout and it's all done.
This is my website (it's in Swedish): loveday.se - it will take you to a product page so that you can click the green button and see what I mean with the customization pages. Hopefully it helps even though it's in Swedish.
My issue starts at the customization part of the site (the bolded step above), as I can see the permalinks in the diagnostics I got.
This step-by-step process looks exactly the same with every card in the store. Same call-to-action headline, same descriptive text etc. The only difference is a JPEG-file with the unique greeting card design. So, what is your take on this? Let me know if I was unclear about something.
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.
