Some archive pages in WordPress can produce significant traffic. Especial if the articles that reside under the archive are informative and the tag or category you use is a good keyword and provides value. So i only no index archives that have no real value.

Contact forms are up to you. Does the form sit on a landing page you want visitors? Or is it an internal link for data collection. A determination on what should be indexed or no indexed is what pages bring value to potential visitors. Many internal search pages bring no value to a user searching for your content on google. So these could be no index. User archives could be no index especial if the user is not an author of content on your site.

You could use Open Site Explorer OSE

Just insert your domain or url and see what links come up that are pointed back at your site. You could also use it on the suspected domain as well.

They are breadcrumbs. It is showing the path of where the content is found on the website. It is only seems like its pulling categories but it is just following the path of the content.

In my experience, I have not seen embedding a google map make much of a difference in rankings. What it does do however, is increase the user experience on your site. Especially if you have a location people travel to.

This is an interesting questions as I have seen both scenarios. I think quality of content and how evergreen the content is may play apart in whether the rankings/organic start to drop or stay steady. Also content that is not performing can be repurposed or tweaked to keep the rankings rolling. Its a back and forth game that you will need to monitor your data to diagnose the situation you are experiencing.

In my opinion good informative evergreen content will always rank unless a competitor drops a bomb and produces a similar piece that is much better then your own.

Frequency is also an interesting concept. 5 days a week is like a news site or a site where people are going to consume content daily. If you drop the frequency you may loose these types of content connoisseurs. However, generally if the content is good informative and engaging it should last.

The google bot was able to read rel=nofollow and links were not followed. So I would think the same for rel=canonical as well.

If you are using hidden pages to manipulate google, yes this is very black hat. You should only no index pages that you do not want to come up in search results. Examples would be a thank you page after filling out a contact form, a login page, and shopping carts.
