Heck no. Those types of links can get his site penalized.

RE: Diluted Link Pages

RE: Do on-page video transcripts dilute keyword targeting?
We do this. It depends on the content of the transcript. If it's a person speaking about something it's going to flow naturally unlike a stuffed SEO paragraph. If it's related to the page it will help because of extra content and long tail keyword possibilities even if the main keyword isn't in the content.
Don't be concerned about keyword density as long as you are addressing the keywords on the main page content. It's real content for the user and the engines, also handicap friendly for the hearing impared.

RE: What are inbound links worth after Panda and Penguin, since a site ranks for the NATIONAL keyword "outdoor furniture" with ONLY 7 INBOUND LINKS!?!?
My first suggestion is to breathe and relax.
I don't see rockymountainfurniture.com ranking for "outdoor furniture" perhaps you are seeing personalized results?
The homepage is a parked page even. http://rockymountainfurniture.com/

RE: How to link to a site without passing ANY linkjuice (other than simply nofollowing)
obfuscated URLs via javascript linking will not only not pass PR but your PR won't get thrown away like it does with a nofollow.
What's wrong with nofollowing the link - that is the recommended method. Also I would make it target="_blank" so the link opens in a new window and Google doesn't count it as a bounce in your analytics.
-
RE: Link building service - linkfool
Any link building company is being flagged by Google these days. If you're doing link building it needs to be independent and one offs and not share the same profile as other paid linking customers which is what you would get with a link building company.
-
RE: Should the primary navigation use keyword rich menu items?
Since those are sitewide links you don't want your main anchor texts to be repeated over and over, so i would go with your suggestion to avoid over optimization. I would still link in content with those keywords but I would mix it up and vary the anchor texts, and not do sitewide keywords like what the client wants, unless you do it one maybe one link only.
-
RE: Too many links from one site?
yes, i would look at the site and get it to be a homepage only link instead of sitewide. i am assuming the link is sitewide and all the same anchor texts with this suggestion.
-
RE: Does Google penalize duplicate website design?
Bad idea to launch 5 sites for the same company addressing the same targets. One site representing your company (if same product) is the rule.
If you can use different IPs, private domain registrars, no interlinking, different contact info, and different content you can get away with it. If you're just throwing up 5 sites on the same server with similar info you're asking for trouble.
-
RE: Is this a good idea for link earning?
I think it's a decent idea because thew privacy policy page is usually linked to from the global footer so usually this page accrues decent PR if the site has PR. Also there are usually very few outgoing links on a privacy page, and it's only a link on that one page and not sitewide which is good.
-
RE: Are there any SEO implications if a page does two 301s and then a 304?
Any daisy chain of redirects is self defeating, especially if the purpose is for trying to transfer PageRank. It just will not work. Matt Cutts had a short video about this on YouTube about a year ago.
-
RE: Is this a good idea for link earning?
I definitely agree, it's relevant and they will probably pass a lot of PR sine the privacy page is usually all text and limited outgoing links.

RE: Submitting Separate Disavow Files for Each Subdomain?
No, subdomains are separate sites. They should all be verified independently in WMT and then in the disavow page you'll see options for all the sites in a dropdown list and submit a disavow for each.

why would i get a thumbs down for asking where he doesn't see his title and meta description appearing? duh

It's just a matter of time until they get penalized. I see same phone number, same content, i'm sure same server.

RE: Would you shorten this url, and if so how?
nope, you are still too many folder deep and your example is worse because the folder names are now meaningless.
this is slightly better:
http://www.yakangler.com/articles/products/boats/1442-jackson-kayak-launches-the-big-tuna
this is even better if you can swing it
http://www.yakangler.com/boats/1442-jackson-kayak-launches-the-big-tuna-boat
a) articles is not needed
b) new products won't always be new
c) boats is a legit category
d) item is not needed
e) get "boat" in your filename if you are trying to rank for that term
You can handle redirects through automation if you are using a cms like wordpress

RE: Call-to-action is literally a call/dialing a number...
prominent, large and easy to find and above the fold on the site. don't use letters like 1800-call-now unless you provide the numbers too because mobile phones don't have standard 123DEF on the keys.
click to call is great especially for mobile users and also make it a trackable number, or numbers if you are promoting more than one campaign so you can track the call success to each campaign.

RE: Which carries more weight Google page rank or Alexa Rank?
PR is one of a couple of hundred factors that are weighted into the Google algorithm. I am not downplaying it at all and you should work on getting quality links but a PR of 0 does not mean a site won't be ranked. I wouldn't pay serious attention to Alexa Rank except to note that Google PR can takes months to update and you may see your progress using other ranking tools like Alexa and SEOMoz Rank (which is far better - my plug).

RE: Lots of optimized content but crappy rankings
A starting recommendation is too get rid of the spammy footer on every page
"Brampton, Burlington, Burnaby, Calgary, Cambridge, Chilliwack, Coquitlam, Dartmouth, Delta, Edmonton, Guelph, Hamilton, Kanata, Kelowna, Langley, London, Maple Ridge, Milton, Mississauga, Montreal, New Westminster, North Vancouver, Oakville, Ottawa, Port Moody, Regina, Richmond, Saskatoon, Sherwood Park, Surrey, Toronto, Vancouver, Vernon, Victoria, West Vancouver, Winnipeg, Woodbridge".

RE: Bad reviews coming next to the company website, how to remove those ??
If you delete your site links there will be less links for people to click to your site and they may click the bad reviews more. So don't delete your sitelinks.
-
RE: Our site has been up almost 2 months and no rankings yet?
Brand new sites can sometimes take up to a year before Google trusts it enough for real rankings. But looking at your site, you basically took the same page of content and simply changed many (too many) instances of the location.
http://www.akinsseptic.com/alpharetta-septic-tank.html
http://www.akinsseptic.com/athens-septic-tank.html
I would rewrite each page as much as you can, including the generic "About Akins Plumber & Sewer" footer content, and maybe lower your keyword density so the pages don't look over optimized. Whoa easy there Less is better.
<meta name="keywords" content="septic tank, septic tank service, atlanta septic, atlanta septic tank, septic tanks, septic repair, septic tank repair, septic pumping, septic tank pumping, sewer line, sewer repair," />
alt="athens septic tank services, septic tank services athens, septic tank service athens, athens septic tank service, athens septic tank chemicals, chemicals septic tank athens, athens septic clog, athens septic clogs, clogs athens, sewer athens, sewers athens" title="septic services athens"

RE: Developing a link profile.....
I think it is NOT a good place to start. These directories are dead. Google knows they are spam. If you have a new site and you want to build up some trust in Google, submitting a brand new site to 100 spam directories is a perfect way to show them you have bad intent. You would be better off not link building like that and showing them that you are not trying to game the system. Build up social media presence and link to them from your site, set up a places page and G+ page and link to them , work on your on page optimization. Don't start spamming links and building up an artificial link profile on a brand new site or you'll get most likely get penalized.
-
RE: Why does this page not show in google at all?
Wow, every single link in your site navigation is nofollowed. You're basically telling Google to get lost.
I'm seeing you rank for specific location searches in google.co.uk so there is no issue except for the fact that you have one page only with little content.
Not sure how much more you will get ranked for with a one page indexed site in Google. You should create tageted pages for different types of flowers and baskets, and allow those pages to get indexed and then they'll have a chance to rank for things like "Flower Baskets in Bridport" for example.
Look at how this site is doing it: http://www.gifttree.com/
Good luck!
-
RE: Why traffic to my link has dropped suddenly?
I think you really need to take a strong look at your own site. You are using some known spam techniques on your pages and it wouldn't surprise me that Google is finally penalizing you for trying to game them. Also, you may be trying too hard to fit your keyphrase on the page and the bot may feel that this is a spam technique. For starters, I would get rid of this entire footer:

RE: Site Wide Links
A link to YOUR site is on a sitewide blogroll?
Lose it. Especially if there is no PR on internal pages. Ask them to make the link homepage only so you're not creating a hundred low quality links with the same anchor text and shooting yourself in the foot.
-
RE: Canonical Meta Tag
Correct, if you 301 the non www to the www that takes care of the split PR issue, you can also declare which version non www or www to select in google WMT so do that as well.
As far as the canonical goes, that helps to make sure that Google ranks the page you want instead of a similar inferior page and helps make sure your Google index stays clean, so it's a good idea to canonical every page to help avoid Google getting confused.
-
RE: Meta Tag Description Warning is wrong. Description is indexed and shows.
You can't check meta tag descriptions on Google. Google does not require these tags and will find other text on your page to display. You need to view the source code of the pages and check for the following tag name="description" content=".">
-
RE: Dynamic numbers in meta title - can it harm SEO?
To answer your question, this is a good way to ensure unique title tags across a very large site so yes you can definitely do it.
To clarify what Alan was saying, you don't want a bunch of title tags like this
<title>"Brand - Buy Toys Online, We Have More Than 10659"</title>
<title>"Brand - Buy Toys Online, We Have More Than 20365"</title>
<title>"Brand - Buy Toys Online, We Have More Than 18818"</title>
you want something more like this for example (although you might add category or something after the name of the toy
<title>"Red Tonka Firetruck | 10659"</title>
<title>Darth Vader 16" Plush Toy | 17759"</title>
<title>Justin Beiber Dress Up Figurine | 32666"</title>

RE: Website is showing up with extra information? Need Advice.
I believe that this is because of your site being on the Wordpress platform and the theme you are using.
http://www.dollarshower.com/how-to-remove-date-stamp-from-google-serp-description/
-
RE: Rel canonical on every page, pointing to home page
the canonical is a recommendation not a directive that they have to follow so they are probably smart enough to see that this is a mistake. I would fix it ASAP though.
-
RE: CDN Being Crawled and Indexed by Google
It sounds like you got a hold of the problem.
Verify the subdomains in WMT
Block the CDN subdomains with robots.txt
Request site removal in WMT for the subdomains
make the canonicals absolute
Keep the blocked subdomains in WMT, when you log in you will see a message by the subdomains saying "Critical issue with your site" which is just telling you that the site is blocked.. I like to keep it in there so I can see it's still blocked.
-
RE: Home page mysteriously not ranking at all
You rank for your company name so the site is not penalized at least
Pages with no content is probably the biggest issue - this site needs content big time, sites like this won't rank well in a post panda world. Adding one sentence per page isn't enough
Site needs better targeting/optimization as well
Kill the blogroll links or at least nofollow them, recommend removing them, leaks PR, puts you at risk and takes users off of your site
Lose the footer links makes it look like you're selling links for PR
-
RE: Can I rely on just robots.txt
You cannot rely on robots.txt alone, you need to add the meta noindex tag to the pages as well to ensure that they will not get indexed.
-
RE: Really bad technical SEO and Nofollow
nofollowing the links won't stop the spiders from finding those pages, that will only throw away your PR. block them out in robots.txt, noindex and/or canonical the duplicate content pages to reign in the number of pages instead.
I would look at the navigational structure and see if you can narrow down the hierarchy a bit if there are 300 links on each page, it's a bit overwhelming for the user. Link to main category pages and on those pages branch out to individual products or sub categories.
"BTW the entire site is an ecommerce site wth millions of products and each product is its own wordpress blog post...YIKES! Thoughts?" I think wordpress is the wrong platform for a large ecommerce site with a million products and a migration might be in order which is a huge undertaking. You must have tons of duplicate title tags and junk on this site, it's inevitable when creating so many pages.
-
RE: Link in my blog to external pages - no follow?
You can safely have follow link to other websites in your blog posts. However, as a general rule, the anchor text links should be on the brand names of the companies you are linking to. These links should not be reciprocal or paid links.
-
RE: SEO Company that bills on results?
I would especially avoid SEO companies that guarantee placement. No one can guarantee that and no reuputable SEO company will. Google's algorithm is always changing. If they do guarantee first page placement they are most likely talking about PPC or lying to you.
-
RE: Is using photos of people to market your ecommce a good idea? Do you think people relate more?
Set up Google website optimizer (it's free) and do some A/B testing on your homepage to see which images get better click thru and lower the bounce rate. You'll be surprised how much of a variation you may see in terms of conversion rate.
All sites look different so there are too many factors that come into play to be able to just say "yes images of people will convert better" so test and let the user pick the winner.
-
RE: Should I 'nofollow' links between my own sites?
Nofollow all of the links between your sites and you can cross-promote all you want, safely. Link sitewide, in the footer wherever you like as long as they are nofollowed. .
If you are doing it for SEO though, I would probably not do that unless the sites are hosted in different places and ownership is not exposed. If they are completely separate you can one way link from the homepage (homepage only is best because it's always spidered and the homepage usually has the most PR) of the lesser sites to the main site.
It sounds to me though that this is for cross promotional and not for SEO so just nofollow them since that is completely safe. Just keep in mind that each place you nofollow a link to your other site you throw away a little bit of PR that would otherwise be passed to your internal pages.
-
RE: How did this little site rank #2?
good lord that site is the worst site i've seen in a long time! It was all pieced together, the directory structure is all over the place. It looks like a couple of sites were combined to make one site which may be helping it reach critical mass.
This first URL is the same as the second one and both are indexed:
http://www.opendooradoption.org/Content/Default/13/207/0/pregnancy-gps/pregnancy-gps.html
http://www.pregnancygps.org/Content/Default/13/207/0/pregnancy-gps/pregnancy-gps.html
It's a complete disaster but for some reason Google is giving it a pass.
Two things going for it:
a) the homepage is PR4
b) they have 13,500 pages indexed in Google.
-
RE: Should we use the rel-canonical tag?
I disagree
a) pdfs are both indexed AND read by crawlers.
b) even if you don't have navigation to the file sometimes Google can find it if it's in a folder that you are not blocking in robots.txt.
c) if someone links to it once on the web it's getting crawled and indexed.
If you have a https section that content should be behind a login and not accessible to the engines. Your problem sounds like your https pages have relative links on them and Google is crawling the https page and then following the relative links staying on https so you need to fix that and this will fix your site getting http pages indexed as dupe https.
Absolute http canonical tags will help but it not the solution. you need to fix the https leaking on your secure pages.
.
-
RE: Help link building
There are so few people who really know how to do safer link building these days, and it's very time consuming and expensive, I would advise against hiring someone to do this for you unless you are willing to take the risk of getting penalized.
Read up on it first so you know what you are getting into before hiring someone who can harm your site.
-
RE: Delete or not delete...
anything that is not original, noindex follow it.
check to see which pages are getting the most traffic and keep those or even add content to them.
noindex, follow pages that have less that 300 words or so to help combat panda
-
RE: URL Stucture: Folders or hyphens?
The most important thing to remember is that keywords in folders do not help push rank, keywords in filenames do.
So if you want a folder named /utc/ because it makes the site structure more logical than do it, but understand that it's not helping rank for "utc"
Therefore, in my opinion this is best
www.eteach.com/talent-pools-at-utc
this is acceptable
www.eteach.com/utc//talent-pools-at-utc
this doesn't target "utc" for SEO
www.eteach.com/utc/talent-pools
and hyphens are better than one word or underscores
-
RE: Why won't my sub-domain blog rank for my brand name in Google?
Google decided that your main site represents your company.
Type "instabill blog" and you rank for people searching for your blog.
Same with my site.
-
RE: Page is noindex
Block the page in robots.txt as well and go into Webmaster Tools and request URL removal and they will remove the URL from the Google index.
-
RE: Why is On-Page showing canonical wrong?
I would take a look at how you're handling redirects. Any page that I remove the www from the URL takes you to the home page and not the www version of the page. That's a huge mistake. I would suggest fixing that right away.
http://harrisonlighting.co.uk/lumigos-princess-candlelight-philips.html
-
RE: Accidently blocked our site for an evening?
No you're ok. It used to be that if your site went down for even a few hours and the spiders came around that you could get deindexed. Now I guess they understand that stuff happens and you have a pretty long grace period before you get deindexed thankfully.
Good suggestions by Nick, also you can increase the googlebot crawl rate on your site in GWMT to get Google to come around again quicker.
