I guess I might try that. I was concerned 40-50 links on an internal page (very internal = No PR) would kill that page and any chance of the internal pages ranking.

RE: Google Index/Cashe questions
So if I can get google to come to an interior page, how deep will it dig. Perhaps I need to figure out how many times can I call google per month, then have that many interior pages that have a significant number of links that lead to additional static pages (each link) that are linked out as well.
Like a pyramid. Google enters Interior Page (A). It's a static page (wordpress) that links 99 links that all link to 99 pages that link to 99 pages. Google would go about three in? I could get more indexed like this.
My page is linked well. It's dynamic content (real estate listings) that have hubs set up. There is a lot of pagination which is what I think google stops at. It enters subdivision "X" and there are 10 listings per page, paginated. There are 300 listings in that subdivision. I don't think google is going too far in to that subdivisions listings page. I need to understand google indexing better.
I invite more participants. Thank you Dana. I need more info all Help!

Google Index/Cashe questions
I have 15k+ pages. I have 4.5k pages indexed.
What relation is the google cashe to indexing pages? My site gets cashed every two days. The competition in my SERP goes 2-3weeks to get cashed. What does this indicate? Is your cashe date your last google crawl?
How can I get google to crawl my site? Is there a way I can get google to crawl my site starting from an internal page. This way I could set up a better linking structure that would benefit from doing activities that get that page indexed to help get my site indexed more thoroughly...

SEM RUSH
Has anyone else had bad experiences with the company behind SEMRUSH. They have me on an auto renewing subscription and refuse to let me off. There is no way to unsubscribe online and they don't answer phones/emails/messages. The only way is to cancel my debt card which is literally going to cause me a lot of ache...
The tool was highly inaccurate and practically worthless. I am really upset they are this unethical.

Buying High PR Sites
Is it possible to buy old sites that no longer have a site up that has a high PR? Can I just put up another site about anything I want and rank well for it?
I see that my link profile (anchor text) will not support my on site SEO. However, could I link to another site and pass page rank with this tactic?
Please discuss... Especially those doing this...

RE: Best Back Links (paid/unpaid) Real Estate
Link bait does not work in my industry. The average real estate agent is in their fifties. They never share/like/link to any content. Most of their sites are html tables. No link I would earn would come from a source with similar content.
There are almost NO agents with PR over 1.

Best Back Links (paid/unpaid) Real Estate
Where can I get the best backlinks for Real Estate?
I don't care if it is paid/unpaid. As long as it's not the kind of paid link Google would go after. Paid directories are A OK.
Please help
Keywords: property management, vacation rentals, real estate, real estate agent, realtors

RE: How to increase page authority
Thank you! I hate when people try to obfuscate SEO.
If I relied on kick ass business and natural link building no one would pay me $100 an hour. Probably because they would be 30k in the hole before they hit front page.
I do however lean away from explaining my practice to clients. I don't want them to replace me, right? I am transparent and above board, but I don't explain the process...
Francisco is giving one of those partial truths. I am sure it was intended to confuse the poster in thinking, I am doing that and getting no where! Perhaps I will pay this guy that knows how to do what I do better...

Internal Linking Question(s)
Is it unwise to link internally to a page more than once on the homepage. I am reading that it is considered spammy. I am also reading that it passes PR twice to the internal page instead of just once...
Which is it?
Is there a way to stop passing PR to the "contact us" page. I watched an older video that Matt Cutts suggested a nofollow. Now I read that this strategy is a no no?
Which is it?
Thanks!

Rip Off Report.com?
Who has had dealing with Rip Off Report.com
They posted a "rip off report" about my client. At the top of the site it has a banner to hire an SEO that can get rid of this "negative online reputation."

Post Privacy Settings
Facebook says roughly 12% of your friends see your posts.
Facebook has privacy settings. Naturally the setting is "public." If you change the setting from public to "Selected List," do you think more of that group of people will get the message?
If your public setting has 1,000 friends, and the list contains 200 people, do you think it will generate the post to 12% of the list?
Is there anyone interested in testing this? It would make a GREAT blog post! I would certainly read it.
If you have any tips to help hit more people on Facebook let me hear it please!

RE: SEMRUSH--- Tool Review
I am seeing a lot less value in this tool tonight. I realized when mailing reports it has their logo all over it. You have to pay $150 a month just to get a "custom logo" on the pdf.
This tool is basically a Keyword tracker. It gives me all of the SERPS a site ranks for. It seems amazing at that but that does seem to be it's only utility.
What other tools can do this reliably without the price tag?
-
RE: SEMRUSH--- Tool Review
Do you think their analytics on PPC is correct? It seems pretty inaccurate... Has anyone checked it against their actual PPC campaign to see if it was right?
I don't know if SEMRush is worth the money though. I really liked having it in the RavenTools suite. It's now not going to be offered.
Does Web Master Tools have information on what serps your page is in? I didn't know lol. That dramatically decreased the value of SEMRush. Is the google provided data not as detailed?

SEMRUSH--- Tool Review
Please review this tool on your personal experiences with it.
I used it on my domain and it reported Search Engine traffic as 10% of it's real (google analytics) traffic. I haven't really mastered GA or SEMRush but I am getting a bad taste.
Please indicate your experiences. Tell me what you use the tool for. What are it's competitors etc...

Link Building
I noticed another SEO builds backlinks (tons) on a social media profile that then has a link to his client's site. Another site he builds backlinks are a bitly account that 301's to the clients account.
Why would you do this?
Is it that you can build links indiscriminately to build a page up in PR to 3-4-5 PR, then pass that higher PR to your site (safe). Is that PR building method better than placing 100's of smaller PR links on your site?
It seems logical that if you passed in a tremendous amount of juice to juice a site up to PR4, you won't make your main site PR4 by JUST that link. You would need to build a lot of PR4 sites to make your site PR4. Why not just put all the backlinks on the main page instead of building up secondary social profiles etc...
Please reveal this secret. I know a lot of SEOs are using this method. Help

RE: Internal Linking
I never see links from internal pages linking back to the main page.
I see internal pages linking to other internal pages. I don't normally see people targeting their root domain with links from internal pages. Is this bad practice? It goes to reason if the main pages passes link juice to six secondary pages that it would be good practice to pass it back.
The navigation bar has "home" on it. Does that imply that every page on the site passes juice to "home" and every link on the navigation bar? Does that then mean that it's good practice to have a good number of links on the navigation bar to spread link juice from the entire site back to those specific links? So each link on the navigation bar should be a page I am trying to rank for a keyword.
My site has 10k pages indexed. Mostly real estate listings. The pages are all PR0 so likely pass nothing along to the navigation bar links...
A good practice would be to chose all the pages in my navigation bar and SEO each one. Get each internal page on the nav. bar to a good PR so it passes it's link juice to all the other pages on the navigation bar and back home. Right? The navigation bar should be links to all pages you want to rank highly for because you can (with above strategy) rank them well together by ensuring a good few internal links.
I do a lot of blogging. I get back links that way (duh). When I go on a blog and make a post, I should make a comment using my root domain. The next time I comment on the site use one of the internal pages on my nav bar, then another one. This way one site is feeding link juice to each of my internal pages which then feed my other internal pages/home. Right?
Main point: I won't get a huge return for getting 10 links from one site. Each will pass juice but it will devalue in volume; however, I can get 10 links from that domain to 10 different internal pages at no devalue then pass link juice from those internal pages at no loss. Right?
-
Internal Linking
I am trying to figure out internal linking. Please help me.
Your "root domain" (the top level example.com) is the easiest to rank on a SERP. When you build Page Rank on this page, you want to make sure the majority of the PR goes into internal pages that matter. To do this you determine what internal pages are most important and put them on the menu bar. You then link to these pages in the body text, or via side bars. This will ensure that the PR is flowing from the root domain into the internal pages multiple times.
The second part is to link from these secondary pages back to the main page. Correct? When you build back links on the internal page, you want to pass the PR back to the main page...
Please discuss this...

Google Places
If you rank on google places, I have noticed that you do not rank on the front page as well. I have a site that ranks on front page for it's keywords; however, because they are (1) on google places, they don't show up when someone is localized to that area. They show up on google places but not on front page. If you turn of localization, they are first in serps.
How can I get around this?
Two separate sites? One for Google+ (Places) and one for SERPS?

RE: Why does everyone use bitly?
Can't you use google analytics to determine people are coming to your site?

How do I know my SERP
Is there a tool to tell me my exact SERP?
I am trying to find a company on google. I have looked through hundreds of pages. Is there a tool to tell me exactly where it is currently ranked for a particular keyword?

Why does everyone use bitly?
Why do people use bitly? I thought it was just a way to share a link on twitter if the link was too long in url.
I see SeoMoz shares all their content with a bitly link. Even when they share it on Google+. Why?

Google Phone Numbers
What process is performed to get a company's phone number to show as "A" on google maps. Google displays the phone number for the company on the map as "A" first. It would be beneficial to get that position.
Is there a sub-category of seo that does this?
Thanks in advance!

RE: Open Site Explorer Changed?
Okay, I thought it mean from all domains linking to me. I didn't realize it meant 25 links from one of the domains to me. So if I engage in a lot of blogging to one particular site, and create 200 backlinks on that site, I don't see them all on OSE.
Gotcha!
Does it help staff if they get the thumbs up/good answer ? LOL
-
Open Site Explorer Changed?
I am getting this at the bottom of Open Site Explorer. I have never seen this message before.
"Why does my number of inbounds links listed not match my total links count? The listed number may be slightly different because we only show 25 links per domain (so that you see a variety). Additionally you have 18 links from no-indexed pages. Unfortunately, we can't get info for those links."
Did SEOMoz change something? If I look at a site, SEOMOZ's OSE doesn't show me all the links it can find anymore? It only shows 25 max???

RE: Top 5 link building articles/videos
Pointblankseo.com has a school for $60. It is literally the best money I have spent on SEO education. No, I don't own the site. It was recommended to me on this forum. To this day, I am thankful I did in fact take the school.

RE: Multiple domain SEO strategy
Do you already own an EMD? It's worth considering how good the EMD is and if the site owner is going to use PPC advertising. I can say with absolute certainty that people can talk about Google's crack down on EMD's all day to dissuade you; however, I own a lot of EMD's in the real estate industry. My click through rate is great with them.
If you aren't working for one of the big names in paint (sherwin williams, Benjamin Moore, Behr) then you are not going to get the "recognition" in the paid per click area. You can get recognition for an EMD though.
Just my two cents- It's good to consider all things. I personally operate a site that encompasses all of north west florida, but I do have domains that target neighborhoods that don't rank over my main domain. I simply have better returns on adwords with those domains.

RE: Google WebMasters Tool - Preferred Domain
I hope I have achieved the forward properly.
I went into my godaddy account and forwarded www. to http:pensacolarealtors.com. When it asked me the name of the subdomain, I typed "www." I didn't type www.pensacolarealtors.com because it had a blank line then .pensacolarealtors.com. I was assuming I just needed to add the www.

RE: Google WebMasters Tool - Preferred Domain
Yea, I suppose. I am concerned with so many domains on my webmasters tool that I might one day click the wrong domain version.
I am very new to webmaster tools (today) so I don't know what I could mess up by going into the wrong one.
Thanks for your help on this thread and the other ones SEO5, you get the good answers!

RE: Domains and Hosting Question
Excellent answer!
How does this form of hosting differ from buying a dedicated server? I am thinking about buying a server and reselling web space. I need to know more though.
I could just put clients web pages as subfolders to my domain. Does this make them "subdomains?" Are they actually part of my domain? How is it that you can go directly to that domain via it's name? Did they change some "c record" or something. BTW, I don't know what a c record is, I just keep seeing it as I am trying to learn LOL

RE: Google WebMasters Tool - Preferred Domain
I have done that. That was not the question. Allow me to clarify.
I now have webmaster tools open. I am looking at the example.com and the www.example.com in my webmaster tools. Can I delete the www.example.com from webtools? Will this cause my example.com to NOT be the preferred domain anymore? I
I had to verify both domains in order to get the webmaster tools to let me set a preference.

Domains and Hosting Question
I bought hosting for unlimited domains on Godaddy. It's not a dedicated server. It was just $85 a year. I have unlimited latency but a limited amount of "space."
I don't know a lot about hosting servers etc... My question is relatively simple.
When I go in GoDaddy to my hosting. There is a site that shows up as hosted, and all of the other sites show up under that site in it's directory. If you type the name of the site I bought the hosted package on, then type a forward slash and the name of one of the other sites on the hosting package, you will actually go to the other website.
What is this relationship? Is it normal? Does that make all of my websites subdomains of the main site (that I bought the hosting package on)? I don't fully comprehend how this effects everything...

Google WebMasters Tool - Preferred Domain
I just added Google Analytics to my wordpress site with Google Analytics by YOAST. I then added Google WebMaster tools through via verify through google analytics account. I then tried to set a preferred domain. I chose the non www. version; however, google wanted me to verify ownership of both versions in order to set a preferred domain. I then added the www. version of my domain. I was able to set the non-www. version to my preferred domain. Now, there are two example.com's in my webmaster tools. I have 10 sites. I intend to replicate this process on all of my sites.
Do I have to leave the non-preferred version of my sites in the google webmaster? Can I delete it after I have set my preferred version? If I delete the non-preferred version will it delete my setting on the preferred version because it is now no longer verified (saved)?

RE: Facebook Tools
I really need the ability to "search" social platforms for keywords. Hootsuite does this... Sadly, HootSuite is more concerned with HootSuite then with their clients. They put their little owl symbol and "via hootsuite" on every post they post for you. This is completely unacceptable.
I really need to search social platforms for keywords. This way I can engage people on social media that are talking about my client's products.
I would like a sofware that will private message groups of people and/or post on their walls

IFRAMES - SEO Question
If 30 websites IFRAM my website, is there any SEO advantage for me? Does google register time on site, metrics on how far in to my site the user goes?
I have a real estate site with listings (homes for sale). Agents want to use my listing feed on their sites via an iframe. The clients would be scrolling through my listings through an iframe.
SEO advantages for me?
Disadvantages for the real estate agent using my listings?

RE: Multiple Social Media Accounts
Excellent response.
I am committed to writing great content in my niche. I know when people read it, I will indeed get a lot of real shares/likes. My primary concern is making sure people read it through a social push. I've read about the Facebook "edge algo." I need comments and shares to make sure the blog I am sharing gets on people's news feed.
I can't get real shares/likes if I don't have traffic to the blog. I respect your response. Can you give me some advice on getting traffic outside of social media shares? I am not able to generate through organic rank yet. My site is on real estate sales/technology (seo/webdesign). Yes it is different. Please advise
I value the way you don't dismiss the idea but instead explain that another activity would be more productive. Please continue to assist me!

RE: Multiple Social Media Accounts
When someone shares a facebook comment that contains a backlink to a page with a blog, then there is SEO benefit in the share, right? There is also the benefit of more exposure, right?
I mean if I operate 30 facebook account then I can share my content 30 times, isn't that a significant seo benefit? SEOMOZ says that seo signals are roughly 8% of SERPS and growing.
The things that google picks up on are shares/likes, right? Having 30 identities is 30 shares/likes when I post.
Please assist Robert

Multiple Social Media Accounts
If I use multiple social media accounts to share-reshare on facebook, to increase the number of people that see my posts, do I need to somehow mask my IP from facebook/google?
I only have one personal facebook account right now. I have been reading and am speculating that most SEO's use several facebook accounts. I know you have to build a facebook account that looks/feels real, but do you have to mask your IP address somehow to stop facebook/google from realizing you are one in the same...

Open Site Explorer Social Media?
Open Site Explorer always reports only a few facebook likes. If I go to the business page of the site, it has 100+ likes. This seems to happen a lot. Is this a OSE issue or is there an issue with the site clearly being defined to google as a connected facebook account?
If OSE doesn't see the likes, will google? How can I fix?

Internal page ranking
If I have a domain: Example.com
I want this domain to rank for several keywords. I build a page on the domain called
If I SEO the page Example.com/glasses with backlinks etc... will that URL come up on google or will it simply bring Example.com up on the SERPS.
If I have three keywords, should I make a subpage for each page and SEO that page? Will that make the domain rank for all three keywords?

RE: KeyWord Density?
This is a common sense approach. There is an optimal %.
I can write endless content that has high value. My site targets local real estate. I could write a hundred pages with a high value to customers. I need to know the %. I could write 300 words at 6% phrase. I could write 1,000 words at 3% etc... No matter how much content I add, it will be high quality.
I appreciate the link to the tool; however, even the tool has to target a specific %. It has to have an objective concept in which it weighs by. I am certain it has a %.
A blog on SEOMOZ once said 6%. A local SEO told me that is high level spam.
-
KeyWord Density?
What is an acceptable density for a keyword? It's wise to push it as close to spam without sacrificing user experience, correct?
I read an article on SeoMoz (outdated I think) that mentioned 6%.
If it's a keyword phrase, do you have to make sure you don't go over the density level of a particular word in the phrase. If it's a three word phrase, do you have to not use any one word more than X% or just monitor the exact keyword.
-
Footer-links (navigation)
I want to put navigation links in my footer. I watched the (distilled) whiteboard friday video saying it can be a penalty.
How are links in the footer different from links in the navigation. Why don't you get "hit" for putting the word "Real Estate Listings" in the navigation menu? It appears on every one of the 30k pages. I don't get why the links in the footer would have a negative effect if the links in the navigation don't.
My example is a real estate website. When people are browsing properties (30k), it is convenient that at the end of the page there is a navigation of areas. I could put the navigation on the sidebar but that would be in essence, the same thing. A wordpress site would dynamically include that sidebar on every page.
