The X-Robots tag has set many of your pages to noindex,nofollow. X-Robots is delivered as part of the HTTP response header so you won't find it in your HTML code.

In addition to that, your canonical tags are a little confused: the homepage canonical tag is set to

when it should be barnettcapitaladvisors.com

I found these things by using Screaming Frog site crawler.

In your Robots file you're not allowing Yandex or Baidu to crawl the site - are you aware of this?

Have your developer correct the X-Robots and canonical issues.

It doesn't sound like rel=canonical is the solution, as each one of your pages might feature multiple pieces of content from various other parts of your website (if I've read your question correctly) - so which would be the canonical version of the page?

You could use Parameter Handling in Webmaster Tools to ensure Google knows what to do with your various parameters. Moz doesn't matter here, as long as Search Engines are aware of how to handle your pages correctly.

• Where is the physical location of the hosting of the website?
• Where are the links to the site coming from?
• Is the site looking to rank locally (within Canada)? Is it listed in local directories?
• Are you talking about Canada in the content?

I've had experience of this. It's good to make clear to the client that you've been hired for a specific purpose and that you can't perform your contracted job properly if a third party won't comply with your instructions.

It's in the client's (and designer's) interest to listen to you. Your reputation depends on your advice or consultation proving successful and if they're aware of that it should help you.

If you have a particularly awkward client who is keen on some useless keywords then it's kind of your job to tell them so (but in the nicest possible way). Compromising and giving them half of what they want, coupled with your own input, can help them move away from their own ideas when they eventually realise that your advice is paying off more than their own thoughts.

Partial SEO can be worthwhile. If by this you mean just on-site SEO then it can go some way, but if there are few valuable links then it's not going to stick around at the top of the SERPs for too long. If it's just on part of the website then it might be worth doing so long as the client is aware that further work should be undertaken later on to make the most of the opportunity.

Well if you redirect to the root domain you may still lose your position. Google has pulled out that particular page to show because it's the most relevant page on the website for that particular query. It makes more sense to either add more content to that page or increase the number of links to it.

Is there anything your competitor is doing on their page that you're not? Can you do it better? Can you give more value to readers of that page?

Yeah I'd recommend consolidating the content onto one page, and 301 redirect the old pages to the new version.

If there are clear differences between 2 or more sections of the content then it's not a problem to have those parts of content on separate pages as they're targeting different keywords.

The less "thin" content, the better.

Discovering 404s can be useful.

Is the old page deleted? Why not 301 redirect the URL to an appropriate page elsewhere on your site? Tools such as Screaming Frog's SEO Spider can crawl your website and help you discover 404s. By redirecting the page with a permanent redirect search engines will to pass any link juice the previous page had to the new page. Redirecting will also cleanup your pages in the SERPs and help with any broken internal links on your site (though it'd be better to fix those).

There's no need to having a rel=canonical tag on a 404 page (but if you do, ensure the tag is for the page itself and not actual content on your site).

There's also no need for search engines to index your 404 page, so I suggest adding the meta NOINDEX tag to the page.

If you're working with Teams then a training area with whiteboard is a must-have. Said area should perhaps be viewable from the normal working environment for added after-effect.

Enough space between you and the person nearest, but enough proximity to feel that you can freely communicate good ideas.

Anyone ever Split-Tested a workspace, or know of anyone who has? Would be very interested to know if this got better results.

Moz's tools can give a page any score, but it doesn't mean Google will rank it in a lower place than it deserves. If your page has an 'F', maybe all the other pages on that SERP do.

Your page may have good link authority or a good balance of anchor text links which could assist its ranking. Have you considered linking factors?

The report which gave you your score for the page should outline changes you can make in order to comply with SEO best practice.

Final thing - I'm in the UK but couldn't see you on page one for "social media marketing edinburgh" (logged-out, incognito-mode chrome session with personalised search off, location set to Edinburgh).

Google will count links to different pages on your site. This post from David Naylor illustrates the definition of where the First Link counts.

When did you implement the 301 redirect?

I've seen it take a couple of months for some sites to regain its PageRank. As long as you follow the correct procedure (which it seems like you have) then you should be okay.

Another thing you might wish to consider is to change the links from pointing to your old site to link to your new site.

Yeah this is the first thing you should do. WMT should give you a more exact number of links than OSE, and those numbers don't tend to fluctuate as much - unless there is an actual loss/gain of a larger number of links/LRDs.

Sitemaps - yes, include anything in Sitemaps that you want users to be able to find, so the more ways you can lead a Search Engine to it, the better.

Filename - it would help if you could change the filenames to include keywords, but if that's not an option then there are other things you can do to optimise each PDF.

As that post mentions, include links back to your site for maximum value, especially if these documents are shared on other websites. Also, a bit of branding within each PDF (just add a logo) could help you out in some way.

My experience was that Position Preference never really worked well anyway.

Targeting positions 3-6 for a number of keywords the average position was around 2, which was fine for higher quality score ads with lower cpc but annoying for some of the more competitive phrases with a higher average cpc and less chance of a return due to product pricing and competition.

I found it easier to manage ad positions with bid management rather than Position Preference.

Are there any useful keywords in your site's name? If so then definitely keep it in.

It's important to keep post titles eye-catching, which usually means short with a simple message or idea, which may leave space for your brand. Personally if I can see the brand in the title as it displays on the SERP then I'm probably more likely to click on it.

Oh and Yoast's Wordpress SEO plugin is all you need for WP...

If you have a list of sites you are going to submit to then using an extension like Roboform or AutoFillForms can take a lot of the tedium out of the process and save you a few £/$/etc if you need to do that.

It's still worth submitting a site to DMOZ. It's a trustworthy site.

If you're really concerned about getting trustworthy links but don't have much budget then consider whether you want to edit the subcategory you wish your link to appear in.
