I setup a few tiny urls last week to test if the pass on any page authority. Is this something you have tried and tested ?

Tiny Urls Passing on links

Directories are Paid links right ?
How are directories ok for buying links ? How can the funds be claimed to be used to review your submission when everyone knows you are basically buying a link ?
What experiences have you had god and bad with directories ?
Is it a free for all any directory will do or should you be more selective in your approach. If so what are the signs to look out for on a top quality directory.

RE: Tuesday July 12th = We suddenly lost all our top Google rankings. Traffic cut in half. Ideas?
something to throw into the mix from a guy I know who was also hit hard by the panda update was the incoming links cname. Do the incoming links you have all come from one particular source or host ?

RE: Subdomain vs folder vs TLD
This is how I would go about this project. Try and purchase the .com domain and then setup the sub domains for each country based close to the specific countries domain shortening code. So for brazil .br . I would also install separate content management systems on each subdomain to enable different users to control the sites. I presume different people will be making changes on the sites.

RE: Subdomain vs folder vs TLD
a .com domain does make the most sense I feel good point.

SEO Moz logo
Is it ok to add the SEO Moz logo to the homepage of your website ? We are a UK based Internet Marketing company and we are looking to inform our audience that we use SEO Moz to manage our SEO clients campaigns.
here is our site - http://www.onlinemediadirect.co.uk
I am looking to add it on the SEO section to the left of the page.

Old Domains
I recently had a discussion with a fellow SEO on the importance of older domains. The guy said he uses a lot of auctions to dig out old domains and use them to setup sites. I considered this as a potential way of generating incoming links.
He did mention he had been punished with the google Panda update.
What are peoples opinions on this as a way of generating incoming links. A domain may cost around $10 plus the hosting could be found quite cheap - it seems a good idea ?
Plus if you get lucky and perhaps get a domain with existing authority it could really be a good investment.
In research I do come across these sites quite a lot a basic wordpress install with pages added linking into other sites. They type that have no contact details and you have to find the whois info to gain any contact with the webmaster.

RE: Can anyone recommend solid directories (paid) to submit websites to?
It worth doing some searches on google such as "keyword" directories or "keyword" submit site etc.
-
RE: Questiton about new ranking factors
Yeah the google plus button, Facebook likes and shares all all important so get these installed on your pages.

RE: Can I get harmed by an inlink?
I asked a similar question related to this issue. It was from a slightly different point of view where I was worried about spam attacks. The logic being if a competitor could try and get a site delisted on google by posting lots of spam links. The kind of replies I received all mentioned that at the end of the day you can't effect or control who or what links to your site.
So unless you have done any known link building with paid links I don't think you have anything to worry about. It is probably just a matter of time but as Rand says page rank isn't everything...

RE: Seomoz Customer Service does anyone feel let down
I have been very happy up to today when I can't ask questions because you now need 500 moz points. I really enjoy the ability to ask questions to fellow experienced seo people. I had a genuine and good question on directories and paid links on directories I wanted to ask but couldn't as a result .

RE: Best place to start link building
As mentioned above spreadsheets are the way forward or a simple word processor page. Adding all the information such as email contacts etc
Another good one is to check out whois information on sites and be like "a dog with a bone" be persistent day in day out and make sure you get in touch with the webmasters. Skype is a good tool to initiate conversations also.

Incoming Spam link removal
I spotted a few bogus links today on one of my clients sites got in touch with the sites via email asking for them to remove the links.
also did a whois and emailed them but have had no reply.
Whats the best solution to this if they wont remove the links ? Is there anything you can do.
I am just worried these links may have a negative effect on the site.

Sitewide blog link and Article links
Hi Guys I just wanted to give you all a heads up on something I adjusted recently that worked really well and wanted to ask for your own experiences on this.
1. We have a blog that adds regular content and within the blog we link from the keyword we are targeting. Standard stuff right !
We were struggling for movement on a keyword so I removed the links from the articles and added a link on the site wide blogroll.
The link on the blogroll included the keyword but was a longer descriptive link.
Low and behold we got a first page listing when the changed it.The change in ranking was made a few days later. I have always been given the impression that site wide isn't that great ? So explain this one .
Of course there are many other factors etc
What are your experiences and thoughts on what happened here ?

RE: Bing and Yahoo rankings
there must be someone out there that just targets Bing specifically perhaps its less competitive. I also noticed recently that Bing has shopping results.
-
Bing and Yahoo rankings
I must admit its every 3 months or so I check these listings
I would even admit we are that engrossed in google we forget these sites exist many times. I wanted to see if anyone had experience doing sep for these sites and what sort of techniques you used in order to help improve these rankings.
I tend to get great listings on Yahoo for many sites but bing seems slightly different.
Would love to find out some information on the algos on each of these.

RE: Twitter as a website's #2 ranked linked page?
when do you expect to have the results of the experiment. It will be cool to hear the results.
-
RE: Twitter as a website's #2 ranked linked page?
I keep noticing this plus the Youtube channel pages but my mind tends to discount them. I do however feel the trend towards social media having an effect is turning the tide.

RE: Ezine Articles
Interesting one I added this to my blog at http://blog.onlinemediadirect.co.uk but have had low levels of comments. Noticed you do magento
If I may go off topic for a moment I wanted to see if its possible to get a feed from magento to integrate withing ebay and amazon ? Plus thinking of an easy upload to adwords.
It has something like 7000 products hence the requirement.

RE: Facebook Comments | Massive Overall Increase in Rankings! Anybody else experience this?
I have this added to my blog but have really struggled to see any kind of response from comments. Any suggestions or is it just down to the content.

Ezine Articles
How much do other people rate Ezines as a provider of articles and incoming links. What are peoples experiences.
It has to be one of the most strict article sites but does this make it the best ?
-
Open Site explorer
how often does this system update ? Its seems to stash very old results ?

RE: Links on the same keyword
so would the extra two links potentially be classed as spam ?
-
RE: Links on the same keyword
but marc the question is could you -
link these keywords from one blog post or article to that one page ? So these three keywords linked from one article.
What would you think about that ?
-
RE: Links on the same keyword
good tip on the company name I have made some adjustments on some incoming links.
One example I want to put to you guys -
I have a blog article and I link the words -
printer ink
ink cartridges
and printer ink cartridges to the same page. Is this advised or would you not do more than one link to the same page. I welcome your opinions.
Thanks
-
RE: IFrame facebook fanbox and tweet blocks
Yeah better just using the official ones to be honest. Always work well for me.
I one time had to use the other coded version for the Facebook fan box as the iframe would not display.
-
Links on the same keyword
When is linking from one particular keyword to much. At what point could link building from one keyword be considered spam and potentially delist a site ?
Is it possible for a site to be delisted for having to many links from the same keyword ?
Heard linking from the website name is more important following recent changes. I try and link from a selection of 3 to 4 keywords.
Thanks for your help

RE: Making More of Blog Categories
could I ask for some feedback on this blog I am currently in the process of setting up -
http://www.supplementsnews.co.uk
If this was your project what would be your next move....
-
Making More of Blog Categories
What are peoples opinions on blog categories and their importance. On many blog I setup a general news category and on others I have gone to town adding detailed categories.
Is there a major benefit in doing this ?
-
RE: Linking from Blogs
just looking over my blog and its the same keyword linking from like 5 to 10 posts. I figured I need to mix it up a little with outgoing links etc.
-
RE: An SEO companies position
thats good to know thanks chaps I was getting worried for a moment back then.
-
Linking from Blogs
Hi I like to link from blogs on similar keywords on a regular basis but I am thinking about changing tactics as it can appear monotonous and un natural.
What are peoples experiences in linking from blogs ?
-
RE: An SEO companies position
thanks do you think it would be a wize move to place this in any contract or agreement with a client to avoid any problems in the future.
-
With a slash and without a slash
I have noticed recently on open site explorer that pages are listed that contact the ending / and that dont.
so for example- www.onlinemediadirect.co.uk/blog-setup
and
www.onlinemediadirect.co.uk/blog-setup/
They also have slightly different page authority. Is it worth setting up a redirect or does google not need this ?
The page ranks well of course.

RE: 100 Words per category
I was looking at the site sportsdirect.com as an example .
and comparing to other sites with less content ranking higher than them ?
search arsenal home shorts
-
RE: 100 Words per category
Is it really needed though I know examples of sites with 50 words doing really well ?
granted the factors of link building are probably coming into play
-
100 Words per category
These are the numbers of words I have heard mentioned as being "good enough" for the categories of ecommerce pages. Even at a stretch 50 words maximum.
What are peoples opinions on the volume of words required ?
-
An SEO companies position
One worrying thought following a meeting with a friend in the Poker industry was when he told me he heard some rival companies tried to spam other sites with paid listings a few years ago ?
Does this happen all the time ? Also could it happen in other industries ?
I was worried when hearing this news and then thought about an SEO companies position in all of this.
Could an SEO company be falsely blamed for this sort of behaviour ? Is it is better to cover these things in contracts with customers.

RE: Does anyone have any tips for optimizing your Google Product Feeds?
When looking into this the problems I have considered is you could sacrifice your base listings against your natural listings. I think it would make sense to plan the keywords your pushing for base and naturals seperate if your struggling.
I do find if you do the usual SEO optimization Google base generally lists you well as a result.
Cool idea as its shopping might be to target phrases with "Buy"

RE: What are your best latest Plugin Downloads ?
I would welcome your feedback on my blog - http://blog.onlinemediadirect.co.uk
It is listed on Google news so thats where I get most of the traffic.
-
What are your best latest Plugin Downloads ?
For wordpress ? I have been using Photo dropper recently which allow copyright free images to be added to posts which helps things look a lot neater .
What seo related plugins do you use and non seo plugins ?
-
Tags to index or to no index that is the Question
Sorry for the silly Shakespearean introduction but what are peoples opinions on leaving tag clouds to be indexed or no indexable by the search engines.
I tend to leave them non indexable at the moment. I use wordpress for blogging as do most others.

Pushing for the Top 3 Spots
Getting a site listed on the first page for most keywords is fairly easy but pushing for the final 3 positions can be difficult.
Have you ever experienced a point where you feel you have given all you can for a campaign and are left scratching your head as to why your not taking over the competitors site ?
From experience SEO only tends to count once you reach those top positions.
When you reach burnout with a keyword with link building etc
Where do you turn ?
-
Another SEO's point of view
Hiya fellow SEO's I have been working on a site -
and I must say it has become difficult due to flaws with the content management system . We are speaking with the web site makers to be able to add a unique title, description to all pages.
I know what is wrong but I would also like some 2nd opinions on this and welcome any suggestions for the site.
A burnt out seo
thanks

RE: Copywriters the ups and downs
Ok question is how can we hire wikipedia writers
I see the logic but realistically trying to find someone with a genuine experts view for each industry you work in within seo is blooming difficult
What's your way around this ? Do you just do it yourself ?
-
RE: Copywriters the ups and downs
when you mention getting link content . I presume the content would have to be a totally new story or expert view. Maybe you could PM me some examples as content has been up to now very much a commodity and I am finding it hard to see the major benefits of having someone that can create content at an expert levels.
-
Copywriters the ups and downs
We use several copy writers for regular blog posts and they do a great job. They rewrite breaking news stories and keep them as unique as possible to avoid duplicate content.
When it comes to writing text for pages on websites they dont half take there time.
I will need one to write a page of 2000 words at some point. Do you think that is a unfair task and what time limit would you look for on this.
I am thinking 7 days.
Whats the best ways of managing Copywriters to get the best out of them and making sure they keep content fresh.

RE: Can A Blog post impact negatively on Google rankings?
It might be worth posting a link to your blog and we can take a look through the code and setup. It may be this introduction but it could of course just be a coincidence.
