when did you add <meta name="<a class="attribute-value">robots</a>" content="<a class="attribute-value">noindex,nofollow</a>" />, the page was cached on the 30th of may, maybe google has not crawled the page since it has been added.

RE: How can I use Open Site Explorer to Identify why my own URL's are appearing as inbound links
by default the inbound links page filter is:
Show all links from all pages to this page and show links ungrouped
Change the filter so that is :
Show all links from only external pages to this page and show links ungroupedShow linking pages across
This will give you all external links to that page, If you want all external links to you website change it to:
Show all links from only external pages to pages on this root domain and show links ungroupedShow linking pages across
Hopefully that will fix it for you

RE: Canonical tag refers to itself (???)
Its not a "redirecting to itself", its just tell the user and bots "this is the master/true url" and my understanding is there would be not problem doing that ( I seen a good few systems doing that with no problem)

RE: Google analytics - landing pages
don't put the 2 different analytics codes on your page!
What you can do is use segments or profile filters (you can have multi profile for one site) to split your data up

RE: What is the difference between a "Just Discovered" link and an "Established" link in OSE?
Generally it can its about 4-8 weeks before mozscape will start showing the new back link.

RE: Duplicate Page Content Report on MOZ
moz's bot crawls 10,000 pages on your site and will report every error it finds on those pages. If your 9999 page is a dup of 10,001 page (ie the a page the bot does not crawl), it will not report about the dup (as it does not know about it)
Also the next time the bot crawls the site it might crawl different pages from the first 10k it crawled (eg if your have changed the site structure etc), so the report might change even if you have not removed the dups
note: the bot normally crawls slightly more than 10k, (eg 10,234 pages)

RE: Add or not add "nofollow" to duplicate internal links?
As you said this has come up many times and my answer is always the same, NEVER use No-follow on internal links... ever. No-follow just throws page authority out the window. I haven't seen a good argument for using no-follow on internal links (bar on pages like "create account" that you don't want to index, but I think no-index on the pages themselves is a better option)

RE: How to stop my webmail pages not to be indexed on Google ??
"However i have double checked that where is no external link to the webmail pages from any other source"
the link might be so obscure that seomoz has not picked it up and google bot has. Note in WMT there is "latest back links" but there is a few weeks delay on them, so the link might be recent.
I'm 99% sure there has to be a link from somewhere, or there is no way google can find that page.
I have added the No-index as well in my robot.txt file on my site but yet no change.
It will not take effect until the next time google crawls your site, I think it took a week or so before my test site was removed (i did no robot.txt file too)

RE: Is This Going to Hurt?
I would seriously doubt that it would do any damage. If it could damage your site then loads of people with use it for neg seo (which is not happening) I wouldn't worry about it.

RE: Do links to PDF's on my site pass "link juice"?
I would think that you would still get benefit from the link on a domain level, but not as good as link to a proper page (as you pointed out).
You could 301 redirect the links to a landing page for the pdf file, but should you? I don't know.
Still it weird that a government site is hotlinking files on your site, I would have thought that would be bad practice from their side. Still its good news for you.

RE: SEOMoz advice on only buying domain if .com version is available
I agree with the guys above, it less to do with seo (if any) and more about human error.
I used to help with a uk gaming website that had a lot of american visitors, and I notice over the years people (the old time) would link to "sitename".com instead of .co.uk, which was held by a domain shark, so lost back links.
But I think this is because of an American audience used to everything being .com
Note: ultimately we bought the .com off the domain shark, I contacted him and originally he wanted $1000s for the domain, I said $300 would be the most I would page for it and said good bye. 2 month later he came back to me and sold it for $300. So if you have a domain shark with the .com play the long game with them.

RE: Link juice retained when using nofollows?
It all changed in 2008/09, and link sculpting in this way does not work anymore. page authority is shared equally to all links, but for no-follow its not passed, just just thrown out the window (not retained)
-
RE: "Items 1 - 24 of 75" Appearing in Meta Description - How Do I Remove It?
This is not always the case, I have notice that alot of zencart sites show like this in the surps, but there in nothing in the source code passing this info ( no rich snippets, no info in the meta tags). Even when the meta descriptions are done manually, it does not remove it.
Zencart show eg "Displaying 1 to 40 (of 90 products)" on product pages but this is not tagged in anyway, just sitting in the Div. But in the surps google shows "Products 1 - 40 of 90" so it is not just copying the text on the page, but understanding it and reinterpreting it.
But I think EGOL is making the point, why do you want remove it? it makes you page stand out of the listings.

RE: Link juice retained when using nofollows?
Example 1 is mostly correct, but jazy point is that it would be more like this:
5 Nofollows: 0 juice each but 47.5 thrown away (2.5 naturally lost)
5 Follows: 9.5 juice each (47.5 juice total, 2.5 naturally lost)
Total 47.5, with 47.5 thrown out and 5 naturally lost

RE: Flash Banners in 2014
Since apple's products don't support flash you are losing a big chunk of the public from the start. With Html 5, flash is on its way out but alot of people/ places still use it. BUT I wouldn't develop anything in flash in this space year 2014!

RE: Open Site Explorer Recently Discovered Links Question
Hi Evan
It can take 5-8 weeks for a link to show in OSE, its just depends when in the OSE crawl cycle you got the link. The last update was on the 21st april but that is based on data gathered from the 4+ weeks before that date so if that link appeared in the middle of that craw it could have been missed. Also there is a chance it just missed that page during the last crawl.
The next update is on the 19th of May, so hopefully your link will show then.
Btw if the link is showing under "Just-Discovered Links" is OSE then you know it will be picked up. (

RE: Search Engine Submission
You don't have to submit urls to the main search engines anymore (in the US and Europe anyway). All you need is to get google to craw it either by a backlink or submitting at sitemap in webmaster tools. To answer your question, it does not matter if it google.com, .co.uk or even .ie
If you google search "site:abc.co.uk" you can see all the pages that have been indexed by google
If your site it not ranking in co.uk its because you have not given the right signals to google to rank it in UK. Have you setup webmaster tools and get the target county to UK? (note this might drop rankings in .com(usa))

RE: MozBar URL Flag shows wrong country
The flag in the toolbar is based on where the site is hosted (as you guessed). Where the site is hosted can* be a factor but really a very small one ( I have a site targeted at N.Ireland that's on cheap US hosting and it ranks fine for brand name). Have you setup Geographic target in WMTs?
*Edit: some say its not a factor at all, but at best is a very small factor

RE: Adwords "seller reviews" not showing
So another month passes and it is eventually fixed. Our account merchant account was suspended for about a month due to an issue with the feed (about 8 months ago), but that was fixed and the account was unsuspended 7 months ago. Google support said that this was causing the seller reviews not to show (even though the guide lines say you don't need a merchant account to have seller reviews).
My advice to anyone that finds themselves with the same problem is to contact google asap and keep chasing them until its fixed

RE: Why is Moz report showing duplicate content?
The report will let you what pages that its is a dupe with (where it says "Other URLs" click on the number)
-
RE: Duplicate Page Title
without knowing more about your situation, short answer is yes
-
RE: When do backlinks start helping?
google has to see the backlink first, so you can check if the page that the backlink is on has been crawled yet by checking if it has been cached by google or has been cached since the link has been added.

RE: Moz Analytics Campaign Landing Pages Update
I posted the same question last week, the David_Lee (staff) replied :
Sorry about that. The blank pages is a known bug which has been fixed and we are hoping to have it deployed before the end of the week. I will let you know when this is released and will want to make sure your data appears.
then 2 days ago
Our engineers have resolved the issue and the fix will take affect during your next scheduled update!
my rankings updated the next day but I'm guessing it need a full update after the bug fix.... will know next week

RE: Prominent newspaper covered my content but did not link
Did they mention you companies name or website , just didn't link to it or did not reference you at all?
I'm not sure, but if your website name (not link, or anything, just the brand) is written on a high profile site you will get a something (little) from it as in google seeing/knowing your brand name, but I could be wrong about that.
edit: Tom beat me to the post

RE: Why is Moz report showing duplicate content?
If the page is something like 90% the same then you will get a dupe error warning
Also moz report does not take into account canonical urls
-
RE: Launching Website
yes, use the robots file to deindex, once your ready to launch remove the disallow, and the next time google crawls your site you should get indexed.
you must have been linked from somewhere for google to find you, so it means google will find you quicker once you ready to launch ( you already have a backlink)
-
RE: Do you recommend Yahoo Local Search registration?
I think its really depends on you website and budget. Some people say its worth it others say its not. Some get direct traffic from it, but I think most do not (from my own experience I got no direct traffic from it).
I'm not going to say you should not get it, but for my own point of view I have no plans currently to get it for my own site

RE: Crawl Diagnostics Summary - Duplicate Content
At the moment the pages are too similar so are coming up as dups, (they also will most likely compete with each other in the serps too)
My advice would be either make them more different content wise, or have one page that covers both terms (I would guess they would be long tail terms anyway, so that might be the best option)
using canonical links it telling google they are the same page content wise and which is the "master page" to show in the serps

RE: Our content has been stolen
you might want to remove (or break) that url to you competitor stolen article as this forum is crawled too...

RE: Will sitemap generated in Yoast for a combined wordpress/magento site map entire site ?
I don't know about yoast, but if wordpress and magento have their own site maps, they both can be added to sitemaps under webmaster tools.
You can also check the sitemap that yoast makes, to see if it has both wordpress and magento links in the xml file (pick 2 random urls and seach).
I would just make sure that the xml is being updated when you add new pages to your site.

RE: Reducing number crawl-able links?
So you think these would hide these links from goggle's bot, but will be usable for the end user?
I know the "no follow" link sculpting does not work, and I'm sure google would be switched on to tricks to hide links to sculpt. If the trick does work, its the type of thing google does not want you to do, so I wouldn't do it incase I get punished by google down the line. (maybe I missunderstand what your trying to do).
I'm not familiar with that type of link, so I don't know if it would work on a technical level.

RE: How to remove all sandbox test site link indexed by google?
"p/s: I have just add robots.txt to sandbox and disallow all pages."
That will do it, just have to wait till google picks up on those instructions (might take a while)
-
RE: Why did the external followed links from B2B Websites are not tracked by Opensiteexplorer
Most likely OSE has not pick up on the links yet (give it a few weeks), or the links are too deep to moz bot pickup on them (in that case they mostly don't have much authority to pass anyway)
-
RE: How does this site rank no 1 for big terms with no optimisation?
how recently has the site been ranking? Maybe the site got a load of targeted backlinks very quickly (black hat) and OSE has not picked them up yet.
I have seen this before were the site will rank for a few days ( maybe a week +) before google realises it spam and dumps it.

RE: Competitor scraped ecommerce product overview
But you mom's blog will get crawled far less frequently than page A as it has less authority, so the chances the your mum read copied and then posted on her blog before the main site was crawled and in time for her site to get crawled would be very unlikely. Other wise it would be very unfair that "bigger sites" get credit simply just by being bigger. But I get your point that being found first is the only factor, but I would think it would be a big factor if not the biggest (back links to the original article would be one I would think)
Btw i'm sure you Mom is a very nice person and would never steal a story of another site for her own blog
Note: I have come to this conclusion based on observation and logic (and others posting similar theories), but I don't have any conclusive proof, I wonder if anyone has do any research into it...

RE: Creating unique SEO content for E-Commerce - worried about it being copied
Simalar question here:
http://www.seomoz.org/q/competitor-scraped-ecommerce-product-overview
Short answer, e-commerce site copying products descriptions from other sites is common place, and there is little you can do about it, but I believed google will know that its your content as it will most likely be crawled on your site before your competitors have a chance to find, copy, post and then get crawled.
-
RE: Network of websites
you don't need to transfer the site, just the domain (which you should own). Before you move go though you old site noting all the pages (urls) you want to redirect (and where you want to redirect to on the new site). Then setup your .htaccess file. They only thing you need hosted on the old domains it the htaccess file (assuming that the new cheap host is an Apache server)
-
RE: Second rebranding, what's the best approach?
Option 2, but also try and change some of the back links to A/B to point to C if you can.
-
RE: Replacing text with images
You really have one arm tied behind your back on this one. I like the idea of the image as a solution, but I worry that might see it as "gaming" in some way as its an very unusual thing to do, especially if the image is very big. Its hard to know without doing on some selected pages and see what happens.
I think you would be better off convincing your client that is bad practice (maybe show him them comming up as dup error in the moz report). Maybe he harsh with him, tell him he can keep the text as it is if he wants, but he will never rank with those pages.

RE: Miss meta description on 404 page
You would/ should use 301 to fix a 404 error, and direct to the correct content. 404 pages are for when their is no correct content (mistyped url), but ultimately you never want a link to a 404 on your site
its call 404 ERROR for a reason
