What are your link-building strategies?posted in Link Building
Link-building seems to be the biggest SEO item that still remains foggy to me. I was wondering what this community's thoughts and strategies are around in for your own personal projects. I think if I can hear some real life success stories, it might make more sense to me in the long run.

It definitely seems shady. I wasn't sure if this was considered "hiding" or "cloaking" because you can easily find the text when you view the source (and I assume that looks more like what the search engines are viewing ) but you have to click several times and you have to know where to look to find it.

Is this considered Black Hat?posted in Intermediate & Advanced SEO
So here is the website I’m looking at, it ranks #1 in keywords like used cars for sale billings mt, etc. I was trying to figure out how, because there is no content on the page! I am working on one of our sites to get it to rank better when I found this in my research.
So I did a “view page source” to see how many times they’re using keywords and what they’re title and description tags are.
WAIT WHAT…. WHERE IS THIS CONTENT?!
Then I found it…
It doesn’t even read like real content. This has to be considered poor form. I'm not sure why it makes me so angry. What do you guys think?

Just to make sure I understand you, you're saying that if we created a landing page on Billingsgazette.com, which has high authority and is well-established, and put a link out to our newer MontanaWheelsForYou.com website that we are in return sending sweet sweet link juice from our established site to our new site. So, doing this could actually help as opposed to hinder.

Landing page, or redirect? Looking for feedback.posted in Local Website Optimization
If we have a section of our site that we have branded separately from the rest of the site, does it make sense to provide a landing page on our current, high authority site that has content and links off to the separate site, or would just a domain.com/keyword redirect to the page be a better route? Does it matter? I have an idea, but I'd like to get feedback on this.
We are a newspaper, http://billingsgazette.com and we have an auto branded site called http://montanawheelsforyou.com. The URL and branding is fubar. We're wondering if we can increase the ranking if we swapped out the http://billingsgazette.com/autos from a redirect to http://montanawheelsforyou.com to a landing page with content and a link to http://montanawheelsforyou.com.
