News articles
Please take a look at this site in OSE: www.ehealthinsurance.com.
If you sort by highest ranking domain with do-follow and outside pages only you can see that they have a lot of news sites, like cnn and msn money, with high domain authority to write a bunch of barely useful articles with many links in them. I was interested to see if anyone know how to get these sites to link to you as a resource?
I cant seem to find a contact person nor can I find a way to submit the articles yourself. any help is appreciated thanks.

RE: Does anybody know about a Penguin recovery for a small business website?
If it was panda its algorithmic, wait till Google re-crawls your site. Also keep in mind if you are removing links that you will need to not only remove them but replace them to regain rankings.

RE: How do I know what my actual backlink profile is?
I would go with WMT. Besides the fact that it is Google, they seem to update every week or 2 vs moz who can barely stay on track for their monthly updates.
I dont think there is a 100% tool but from what ive seen all the links that show up in other tools can be seen on webmaster tools and then some. although this may not be true for everyone it is so for my current profile.
also keep in mind that just because it doesnt show up in the profile does not mean it is not counting for you.

not enough details it could be a variety of things you gotta be more specific

RE: Checking for content originality in a site
You can use this website to check for duplicate content.
I wouldnt worry about duplicate content too much if it is only a couple of places ripping your content. Keep it on your sites for your audience. I think Google only cares if hundreds or thousands of sites have the same content and only devalue pages with it not penalize. But i could be wrong.

Domain authority
Will a link from a website with a high domain authority but a low page authority help my site build authority and rank?
The reason I ask is I have the opportunity to get a .edu link however its on a sub-page with no page rank or authority.

RE: Pro/Cons of JUST using Google Analytics
cause i check impressions and my link list with WMT and the GA for visits, time on site, and goal conversion.
If only they had 1 place to check all 5 lol....
but I'm sure if you wanted more macro data then the other features are useful.

RE: Domain & Page Authority of brand new site?
I have a site that is about 4-5 months old. I don't know how accurate seomoz tool bar is at updating and determiningactual authority (i think theirs is an algorithmic guess) but I out rank plenty of people with higher domain authorities and page authority than mine.
If its brand brand new I'd guess DA around 10 but again I dont think Google takes this into a account as a huge ranking factor.

RE: Targeting nearly identical keywords
I'm not an expert so forgive me if I'm wrong. I am doing the same thing with my search results car / auto. From what I know Google recognizes synonyms and acknowledges them. What I did is target car as the main keyword and in the first paragraph or somewhere close to the top I use the term auto. When you do a search in the SERPS I rank for both car and auto terms (not exactly the same position but not a big discrepancy). The only difference is what Google bolds in the SERPS description. If I search car it will bold my page title with the term car and when I search auto it bolds my description with the word auto in it.
Again I am no expert and there may be better or more SEO friendly ways but this is how I went about it.

RE: Using H1 Headings - More than 1?
Because it is not out and nobody is the search engine the best you can get is speculation. If you want opinion, here is mine. You can put multiple H1 tags into your code now, even if it is not good optimization, so I don't see why you would not be able to do so in all future versions. The reality is search engines only give minor weight to the first H1 tag on the page and don't even really look at your h2 h3 h4 ect tags. If they ever allowed multiple h1 tags, I'm sure the search engines would either put even less importance on the h tag, if any at all, or would do what it is doing now and look at the first one and disregard all others. The main use of h tags is to create good readable content not to optimize for seo.

RE: SEO-Experts help answer my newbie questions!
I'm no expert but I will start answering some of these. Anyone else feel free to make corrections or answer the ones I have not.
1. I am also an seo noob and after 2 months here is how i stand
54%-rank 4 (2.5 months)
63%-rank 20 (.75 months)
73%-rank 25 (.75 months)
i would say try a varied strategy short, medium, and long term goals. You never really know how the search engines will see your efforts.2. On page optimization is the structure of your site/pages and how the page is well.... optimized for certain keywords. Things like load times are may have a minimal effect on your rankings but this doesn't really have anything to do with onsite optimization.
3. Self-cannibalization means you may have multiple pages competing for the same keywords. For instance If you have your home page pointing a link to your blog and to your resource page using the same anchor text, they are in direct competition for that term. When the google bot crawls your website it follows links around to find pages and when presented with, lets say 2 pages with the same target keywords, it will determine (instead of you dictating) which is more relevant. So to optimize the site correctly fix your links so that pages do not compete with each other for keywords.
4. Lables = keywords or tags. They categorize your posts according to certain words you want to associate with the post. Do they help directly with SEO, probably not but they can help your readers identify posts with certain words and find other related posts.
5. src= something.jpg">
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alt_attribute : Google doesn't read Images unless you put a description, I wouldn't stuff keywords in there but if your keyword describes the image then do it.6. Which ever should be fine. From what I understand Google bot does not read images unless you give them alt text. So as long as your readers can view the images you should not have any problems.
7. You can start building links whenever, just make sure you don't go too crazy with the link velocity (rate at which you build links). Start off slow and build your way up. Is there a right amount of links I think this is debatable. I personally think as long as they are high quality you wont have issues as long as one day 1000 links don't just pop up pointing to one page with all exact match anchor text you'll be ok.
8. People say the web 2.0 links have been devalued because of things like link wheels. Google doesn't like duplicate content so it wouldn't be best practice, but they do get indexed and they do tend to carry high domain authority and can build up page rank. All I can say for sure is that my web 2.0 links show up in my Google Web Master tools so I continue to do them at a moderate rate.
9. It is a situationall thing. It depends on the site
10. I would do what is most natural. If you have good content, links will go to multiple places on your site.
11. This is spam. Google's recent update penalizes for spam commenting. I wouldn't do it too much or at all.
12. I don't think that has any SEO value.
13. It will not hurt if you have a well written Robot.txt file and sitemap. If you want to block specific pages you can do so in google webmaster tools.
14. http://help.yahoo.com/kb/index?locale=en_US&page=content&y=PROD_SRCH&id=SLN2210&impressions=true
Hope this helps. It may not all be correct so if anyone has anything to change feel free I'm just trying to get the ball rolling.

RE: High Bounce Rate on this Specific Page
well you hit it on the head for me with the colors/ theme but the reality is you probably have a high bounce rate because:
1. Your colors scheme makes me not want to read anything on the page
2. On that specific page, your call to actions are hidden. You actually have 3: should I read your blog, buy now, or join your news letter (all are above the fold). If this is a landing page, make sure what you want the user to do is clearly defined.
You have so much going on and your color scheme is like camo. My first impression when I get to the page is "what am I supposed to do?". To give you and idea of what I mean here is why I would bounce.
When i first open the page my eyes land on your slide header. Ok I see a few testimonials all with pictures of fake people. What do I think.... Fake testimonials. Then I look up to $39.95 (at the top not the side) and leave. Why do I look up at the $39.95? Even though it is small you put it in red (an action color) When I look in that area, regardless of how small it is it stands out especially since my eyes first landed on the slide header.
If I were you I would:
1. do some research on colors and how the impact purchasing decisions.
2. use your slide header for the call to action or use it direct people to the call to action
3. dont use testimonials with fake pictures. either get pictures of the people giving you these great comments or put them discretely on the side or. I would try getting the real pictures if they are real testimonials.
4. make the page less busy. if it is an internal page that users navigate to then sure it may be ok, but for a landing page, i would make it as clear and concise as to what you want the user to do.
Hope this helps good luck.

Keyword tool
Does anyone know of any good keyword tools that will help me find and then maintain a list of keywords? I currently use Google adwords and now the keyword tool from Moz but I am looking for something that will help me find and generate keywords not just get statistics about them. Thank you.
