Thank very much!
Great advice! I will do it that way.

RE: Pagination parameters and canonical
Hello Anthony!
Thank you for your answer. I have been reading about the rel/prev and the canonical, and I found two different points of view about this. I know the recommendation of Google is the one that you have mentioned above, but as the CMS (Prestashop) is managing the paginated results the way I have shown, that is the one I am using.
The question is, imagine that I have implemented the canonical the way you say before (or the way I did, I doesn't really matter for my question), should I still tell google that "p" parameter is a pagination parameter in Google Webmaster Tools or it's not necessary?
Thank you!

How to measure adwords campaing success on an non ecommerce/leads website
Hello,
We have a website of a furniture company that runs an Adwords campaign. This company has a lot of distributors. They have several objetives:- people explore the online catalog
- people visit the distributor page (where they can find the nearest distributor in his/her area)
- people share the pictures and info in social media. (For example: pictures in pinterest)
- people watch videos
- new distributors contact them to be a new distributor
and so on. As this is not an eccommerce website they can not buy
We have created objectives in analytics to meassure those engament results.
My question is how to measure this in Google Adwords...
If I import GA objetives into adwords, I get conversions rates of 350% and even more, and the number of conversions is to high. For example. If one objetive is to visit Distributors page (the one where users can see a map and search for the nearest distributor), I find with a lot of conversions of this type.I was thinking in importing some objectives and giving them a value in $ and instead of evaluating conversion rates, evaluate ROAS.
But I really would like to know, what you are doing with this kind of companies. How do you measure the campaign success when most of the objetives are measuring engagement.
Please, could you give me any advice?
Thank you!

Pagination parameters and canonical
Hello,
We have a site that manages pagination through parameters in urls, this way:
friendly-url.html
friendly-url.html?p=2
friendly-url.html?p=3
...We've rencently added the canonical tag pointing to friendly-url.html for all paginated results.
In search console, we have the "p" parameter identified by google.
Now that the canonical has been added, should we still configure the parameter in search console, and tell google that it is being use for pagination?Thank you!

Should I redirect 404s or should I eliminate them?
Hello!
I am now checking a website that has been migrated months ago from osCommerce to Prestashop.
While I was checking crawl errors in search console I found a lot of 404s coming from the last website. The urls are mainly 4 types:
- popup_image.php?pID=125&osCsid=507c27261ba5ca2568f06ce5bad2ebc9
- product-friendly-url-pr-125%3FosCsid....
- product-friendly-url-p-125%3FosCsid.....
- products_new.php?page=228
I've have realized that the parameter pId, and the number that comes after pr- and p- is the product Id in the new website, so I think our team will be able to create an script to redirect those.
My question is: Is it ok to send several urls to the same url?. I mean, the popup_image.php was not the product page, as its name says it's more like a popup page. We don't have now a pop up page for images, so I was thinking to send that url to the product page.
the one with the pr- was product review page
the one with the p- was the product page
I was thinking on redirecting the 3 of them to the product page? Should I? Or should I just redirect the last one (p-) and eliminate the others from the index?
And... the ones with
- products_new.php?page=228
I was thinking to redirect all to the page 1 of new products.
Is it ok?
thank you!

RE: Pagination loading with using AJAX. Should I change this?
Thank you so much!
I noticed the problem with the canonical when I was auditing the site. I think is this is a major issue. Google seems to be omiting that, because it is still showing inner pages in its results. We are not sure about how this can be affecting the entire site rankings, but I think it is not good at all.
We have addressed that and we hope the site improves its rankings soon.
Thank you again for your advices!

Pagination loading with using AJAX. Should I change this?
Hello,
while I was checking this site;
http://www.disfracessimon.com/disfraces-adultos-16.html
I found that the pagination is working this way
http://www.disfracessimon.com/disfraces-adultos-16.html#/page-2
http://www.disfracessimon.com/disfraces-adultos-16.html#/page-3and content is being loaded using AJAX. So, google is not getting the paginated results. Is this a big issue or there is no problem?
Should I create a link for See All Products or there is not a big issue?Thank you!

Manage category pages and duplicate content issues
Hi everybody,
I am now auditing this website www.disfracessimon.com
this website has some issues with canonicals and other things. But right now I have found something that I would like to know your opinion. When I was checking parts of the content in google to find duplicate content issues I found this:
I google I searched: "Chaleco de streck decorado con botones" and found
First result: "Hombre trovador" is the one I was checking -> Correct
The following results are category pages where the product is listed in.I was wondering if this could cause any problem related with duplicated content.
Should I no index category pages or should I keep it?
The first result in google was the product page. And category pages I think are good for link juice transfer and to capture some searchs from Google.Any advice?
Thank you

RE: Need advice and smart solution for H1
Hi Umar!
Thank you so much for your great answer and your time! Your advice is great. Trying to take value of the different pages using each one for one query.
But, I was wondering if users wouldn't be confused if the name of the section were Objectives (in secondary navigation) and the H1 be a different sentence. What is your experience with this?
About the use of just one page or different pages to split the content... Honestly, I was thinking about it seriosly, and even was checking other universities to see what they were doing, and I found that some of the, specially the ones that has great visibility in SERP had the content split too. I think it is more related with the domain authority than with the onpage optimization, but it made me doubt.
What happens is that if we place all the content in just one page, we will have pages with more than 2000 words. I think it is to much. What do you think?
Thank you!

Need advice and smart solution for H1
Hi!
I've been quite a long time trying to find a solution to the html structure of a webpage that I'am auditing right now. But I need your valuable help!
The problem is the following:
Actually, they have different sections inside. The structure is something like this
Masters - Degrees - Programs - About us - News
And if you go to the Masters Section you will find something like this
Masters
- Master number 1 in Tourism (brand.com/master/master-number-1-tourism)
- Presentation
(brand.com/master/master-number-1-tourism) - Objectives
(brand.com/master/master-number-1-tourism/objectives) - Professional opportunites
(brand.com/master/master-number-1-tourism/professional-opportunities) - Faculty
(brand.com/master/master-number-1-tourism/faculty) - Qualification
(brand.com/master/master-number-1-tourism/qualification) - Financial
(brand.com/master/master-number-1-tourism/financial) - Master number 2 with a long name
- Presentation
- Objetives
- Profesisional opportunities
- Faculty
- ...
- Master number 3 in Sports and so on
- Presentation
The Degrees section, has inside exactly the same structure with the same names.
My doubt is related with the use of h1 tag
What would be the best h1 strategy for each content page? Each master has 6 pages (presentation, objectives, faculty,...)
For page Objetives,
brand.com/master/master-number-1-tourism/objectivesIf I choose to use as H1 just the word Objetives, what will happen is that I will have a lot of pages (one per master, degree or program), with the same H1, because each master will have its own page Objectives. If we have 10 masters + 10 degrees + 2 programs y will have 22 pages with the same H1 Objecives
If I choose to use as H1 the following:
"Objectives of the Master Number 1 in Tourisim and so on with long name"
it will be difficult for the users to visually see the difference between the different pages. for instance
Objectives of the Master Number 1 in Tourisim and so on with long name
and
Faculty of the Master Number 1 in Tourisim and so on with long name
because they only differ in one word.
What do you think of this solution?
Objectives
Master Number 1 in Tourisim and so on with long name
is it correct to do this inside the h1?
or would you use combinations of h1 and h2 like these
h1: Objectives
h2: Master Number 1 in Tourisim and so on with long namewould be this appropiate?
- Master number 1 in Tourism (brand.com/master/master-number-1-tourism)

RE: Best Practices for Homepage Title Tag
Thank you Tom!
For sure, a ctr optimized title works better. I still don't know if having less kws in title tag pays the worth...
I still don't know, what would be better
Attractive title, but less keywords.
or
less attractive title and more keywordsSpanish language makes it a little more difficult, cause generally words are longer, and you cannot say too much...
Maybe the only way is testing for each case, what works better.
I wish it were esier!Thank you!

Best Practices for Homepage Title Tag
Hi,
I would like to know if there is any update about the best practices for the homepage title tag.
I mean, a couple of years ago, it was still working placing main keywords in the homepage title tag. But since the last google SERP update, the number of characters that are being shown were reduced, and now we try to work with 55 and 56 characters. That has reduced our capacity of including many keywords on the title tag.
Besides, search engines are smarter now to choose the correct inner page to show in SERP.
But I am wondering if the Homepage Title should have a branded orientation or should include main keywords, cause it is still working that strategy.
I would appreciatte any update in this issue.
Thank you!

RE: Duplicate content in external domains
Hi again Andy!
I would advice to create different content. They will decide what to do. The portals are quite important, and its authority is higher. This website is too new.I would tell them both things: different content and also sending that content inmediatly to the index from Google Webmaster Tools.
Thanks for your time!

RE: Different urls for the homepage on an international website
Hi Andy,
thank you for your answer!
I have checked the post from Aleya Solis, and is really useful. So, I think that I should avoid 301 redirects in this situation... and use exclusively hreflang and canonicals, right?
Thank you!

Canonical page 1 and rel=next/prev
Hi!
I'm checking a site that has something like a News section, where they publish some posts, quite similar to a blog.
They have a canonical url pointing to the page=1.I was thinking of implementing the rel=next/ prev and the view all page and set the view all page as the canonical. But, as this is not a category page of an ecommerce site, and it would has more than 100 posts inside in less than a year, It made me think that maybe the best solution would be the following
Implementing rel=next/prev
Keep page 1 as the canonical version.I don't want to make the users wait for a such a big page to load (a view all with more than 100 elements would be too much, I think)
What do you think about this solution?
Thank you!

Duplicate content in external domains
Hi,
I have been asking about this case before, but now my question is different.
We have a new school that offers courses and programs . Its website is quite new (just a five months old)It is very common between these schools to publish the courses and programs in training portals to promote those courses and to increase the visibility of them.
As the website is really new, I found when I was doing the technical audit, that when I googled a text snipped from the site, the new school website was being omitted, and instead, the course portals are being shown.
Of course, I know that the best recommendation would be to create a different content for that purpose, but I would like to explore if there is more options.
- Most of those portals doesn't allow to place a link to the website in the content and not to mention canonical.
- Of course most of them are older than the new website and their authority is higher.
so,... with this situation, I think the only solution is to create a different content for the website and for the portals.
I was thinking that maybe, If we create the content first in the new website, send it to the index, and wait for google to index it, and then send the content to the portals, maybe we would have more opportunites to not be ommited by Google in search results. What do you think?
Thank you!

RE: Same content on other domain owned by de company. Canonical is not working
Thanks Everett, I agree that the best would be creating diferent content, but It is a little difficult, cause it is the explanation of the contents and programming of one course.
Thank you for your answer, and I will recomend publishing the content first in NEWSCHOOL and sending to the index before sending that content to other pages or portals!

Different urls for the homepage on an international website
Hi!
I was wondering what would be the best strategy to solve duplicated content generated by the homepage and its differents URLS
This is an international website. Now it only has one language working: Spanish, but the url structure is already ready to work with the language approach
So we have now
www.brand.com -> Spanish Homepage (canonical www.brand.com/es)
www.brand.com/es -> Spanish Homepage (canonical www.brand.com/es)
www.brand.com/index.php -> Spanish Homepage (canonical www.brand.com/es)I would like to know if this is the correct approach of if we should add 301 redirects instead of canonical.
Let's image that they want to active the /en language, so they will have
www.brand.com
www.brand.com/index.php
www.brand.com/es
www.brand.com/ennow what? I image they have to use hreflang, but I am a little lost with how this should work. 301? canonical? hreflang?
Could you help me?
Thank you!

RE: Same content on other domain owned by de company. Canonical is not working
Hi!
So, your point is to wait for that to happen, isn't it? What do you think about sending a link from the BIGSCHOOL course page to the NEWSCHOOL course page? I mean, canonical + link
Thank you!
-
RE: Same content on other domain owned by de company. Canonical is not working
Thanks Rebecca! I would probably go that way!

RE: Same content on other domain owned by de company. Canonical is not working
Thanks Umar!
What do you mean with ...
"I reckon your "New School" is not offering lots of degree courses so yes you can get the link from "Big School's" content but make sure, you are linking in a proper and natural way"
I woudn't be natural... cause both have the same owner...

Same content on other domain owned by de company. Canonical is not working
Hi!
I am analyzing a website right now. It's a school, let's name it NEWSCHOOL. This school is owned by other school, let's name it, BIGSCHOOL
NEWSCHOOL is specialized in tourism degrees, and the BIGSCHOOL is a bigger and older one with a lot of different degrees.
What happens is that NEWSCHOOL has a course, let's name it TOURISM DEGREE.
BIGSCHOOL has that course too, with the same content, trying to help to promote the content, because this school is older, well known and has a consolidated brand internationally.BIGSCHOOL, has placed a canonical tag, telling Google that content comes from NEWSCHOOL.
What is happening is that the result of newschool is beeing omited by google. The first result is the BIGSCHOOL content, and then a lot of training portals, where the degree content is too to increase its visibility.
So, I would like to know, how can we do to say google that the content that it should show is the one of NEWSCHOOL and not the one in BIGSCHOOL. It's pretty clear that Google knows that those portals are closed related, because it is omitting the NEWSCHOOL results.
I know that we can send a link from the content area from one portal to the other in the content we want. But... would it solve the problem... and y we have to repeat that for each degree, woudn't it be a little dangerous?
Would like to know your points of view!
Thanks!

Duplicate content, the distrubutors are copying the content of the manufacturer
Hi everybody!
While I was checking all points of the Technical Site Audit Checklist 2015 (great checklist!), I found that the distrubutors of my client are copying part of the content to add it in their websites.
When I take a content snippet, and put it in quotes and search for it I get four or five sites that have copied the content. They are distributors of my client.
The first result is still my client (the manufacturer), but... should I recommend any action to this situation. We don't want to bother the distributors with obstacles.
This situation could be a problem or is it a common situation and Google knows perfectly where the content is comming from?
Any recommendation?
Thank you!

Best strategy for images filenames?
Hi community!
For this case, which would be the best strategy for image filenames?
This is a funiture company, with its own brand. What they sell is what they have created and designed
Let's think on a kitchen. And we have a page we want to rank for the primary Kw "modern kitchen", and secondaries "white modern kitchen", "modern minimalist kitchen", "modern kitchen designs".
-
Would you use the brand name in the filenames? I mean:
---------- white-modern-kitchen-brandname.jpg
---------- modern-minimalist-kitchen-brandname.jpg
---------- modern-kitchen-brandname.jpg -
Would you use just the kws in the filename and the brand in the alt text?
---------- filename: white-modern-kitchen.jpg Alt: "White Modern Kitchen, Brand"
or should we use the brand in both items: filename and Alt?
¿Which would be the best way to do it in this case?
Any suggestions? Thank you!

Galleries and duplicate content
Hi!
I am now studing a website, and I have detected that they are maybe generating duplicate content because of image galleries.
When they want to show details of some of their products, they link to a gallery url
something like thiswww.domain.com/en/gallery/slide/101
where you can find the logotype, a full image and a small description. There is a next and a prev button over the slider. The next goes to the next picture
www.domain.com/en/gallery/slide/102
and so on. But the next picture is in a different URL!!!!
The problem is that they are generating lots of urls with very thin content inside.
The pictures have very good resolution, and they are perfect for google images searchers, so we don't want to use the noindex tag.I thought that maybe it would be best to work with a single url with the whole gallery inside it (for example, the 6 pictures working with a slideshow in the same url ), but as the pictures are very big, the page weight would be greater than 7 Mb.
If we keep the pictures working that way (different urls per picture), we will be generating duplicate content each time they want to create a gallery.
What is your recommendation?
Thank you!

Any Idea for International SEO in this complex situation?
Hi,
a client of mine has a site with a domain name brand.es. They are a furniture manufacturer. They has a well known brand in its sector.
brand.com is registered by a US company. (Completly different activity)This client registered its domain name 10 years ago, and its audience was in Spain.
As it is a .es ccTLD it is directly geotargeted to Spain.5 years ago, they began to export to other countries, and today they have distributors in a lot of countries like Italy, France, England, Portugal, Germany, and many more...
As they are manufacturers and they sell their products to multiple locations worldwide, the language aproach seems to be the more efficient way to reach they users.
The problem is that they are using a ccTLD domain brand.es, beacuse the .com domain was registered.
Actually the international organic traffic is very poor, mostly related to queries with the brand name.My question:
Is it possible to do international seo with a geotargeted domain .es?
Should they register a .com that doesn't match exactly their brand name? (it is a little difficult, beacause brandfurniture.com would be good for England, but not for Spain or France. )
Or should they focus their strategy with some ccTLDs for 3 or 4 of the main countries? (Not sure this would be an alternative... too much cost)I know, that in this situation there is no perfect solution, but I would appreciate your opinions.
Any Ideas ??????Thank you!!

RE: I think this website has been hit by Panda, but I would appreciate your opinion
Hi Danny,
google search console shows this:
- 14527 indexed pages
- 19 resources blocked (js files, wp-includes is being blocked by robots.txt)
Errors, desktop:
- 3 server errors
- 1 soft 404 error
- 51 404 errors
Errors, news:
4 errors: article fragmented and article too short.sitemap.xml (146 warnings)
14439 urls, sent
13886 urls, indexed
No security problems.
No more issues, I would like to know whay you say it comes from a technical problem... I think there must be something that is making you think that way. I would appreciate your opinion on this issue. Thank you so much!

RE: I think this website has been hit by Panda, but I would appreciate your opinion
Hi Marie,
Thanks for your anwser.
The news they are publising are being created by them. Not just a copy and paste from other sites, created 100% by them, but those news are just 3 or 4 parragraphs long.I have checked that there are 19 resources blocked in 3185 pages (js files as you said). I can tell them to let googlebot explore the wp-includes directory, to avoid this issue. Do you really think this can cause such a big effect?
And finally, robots.txt file has also a Crawl-delay:30. Search console show that as a warning. What do you think, should we remove that? It shouldn't be an issue... but never knows...
Thank you so much!

I think this website has been hit by Panda, but I would appreciate your opinion
I've been asked to check a possible SEO problem with a website, that has been loosing organic traffic during more than 2 years. I have attached a screen capture from analytics, showing how the organic traffic impact.
This website publishes over 15 articles per week, and 12 of them are news with less than 150 words. I think that maybe Panda is hitting the website because of these practice. You can check the website: crazyminds.es
I would like to know your opinion about the cause of this lost of organic traffic.
On January, 21st 2013 they changed the website design, but the lost of traffic seems to have started before that date.
If panda is hitting the website, what should be the best way to correct this situation? They have began now to write news with more than 200 words, but what happens with the old news? Maybe a no-index tag? blocked by robots? how should they manage those?
Thank you!

After 301 redirects average rankings went down a little. Any idea?
We have changed the design of a website, from an oscommerce site to a new responsive website with customized programming.
After the 301 redirects we have lost 1 to 2 positions in Google Rankings of the most visited categories.
This are real data
<colgroup><col span="5" width="80"></colgroup>
| page | brand | page | CTR | average position |
| old | fagor | http://www.electrorecambio.es/tienda/fagor-m-41.html | 15% | 6,6 |
| new | fagor | http://www.electrorecambio.es/fagor | 13% | 7,2 |
| old | teka | http://www.electrorecambio.es/tienda/teka-m-39.html | 12% | 7,2 |
| new | teka | http://www.electrorecambio.es/teka | 9% | 8,8 |
| old | balay | http://www.electrorecambio.es/tienda/balay-m-81.html | 12% | 7,4 |
| new | balay | http://www.electrorecambio.es/balay | 11% | 8,6 |
| old | bosch | http://www.electrorecambio.es/tienda/bosch-m-44.html | 10% | 7,4 |
| new | bosch | http://www.electrorecambio.es/bosch | 8% | 11 |Edited: As this table is not shown properly I have added an image
For you to check the old page you can see the old urls in the folder tienda2. For example
http://www.electrorecambio.es/tienda/bosch-m-44.html
can be checked in
http://www.electrorecambio.es/tienda2/bosch-m-44.html
I would like to know if you see any important information that could justify this drop down in rankings
Thanks!!!

How to change booking system in SERP for a Hotel Result
Hi,
I was wondering how can I change the reservation system that appears in the SERP when someone search for a hotel.
Now, the price that is showing is from booking.com. Of course the Hotel wants to use its own reservation system. How could I do that? If It's possible, of course.
I have attached an screenshot so that you can see an example.
Thank you.

RE: Need to know if this could be dangerous
Hi robert,
thank you very much for your anwser. What you say is :
301 from
www.store.com/oscommerce/catalog/productpage.html
to
www.store.com/sectionname/productpage/5487
And not to 301 from
www.store.com/sectionname/productpage
to
www.store.com/sectionname/productpage/5487
But what will happen with the pages that Google have already redirected from the old ones to the new ones? Or maybe this process is not as fast as I belived...?
-
Need to know if this could be dangerous
We have recently launched an store, and we had created 301 redirects from the old product pages to the new ones. But we found that the new website performance was a quite slow, and that it would improve a lot if you add a number at the end of the product page url. But that implies to change the 301 redirect and to add a new one for the pages that has already been updated by the search engine.
I mean.
www.store.com/oscommerce/catalog/productpage.html
has been now 301 redirected to
www.store.com/sectionname/productpage
this was 48 hours ago.
But now, (I know it, we should check this before...) we need to change the url to
www.store.com/sectionname/productpage/5487
this way the performance improves a lot.
But we are afraid of doing two 301 in just 48 hours.
any advice?
Shoud we find another way of solving the performance issue? Thanks
