The GAchecker link I mentioned worked a treat.
Found this just after I posted.
I'll leave link, in case anybody searches the same question.
Morning Moz!
Is there such tool, to view if your site has Google Analytics script by page? (I mean page by page, so to crawl an entire site)
It's a 500+ page website, so i'm trying to avoid viewing source of each individual page.
Thank you!
It's very hard to pinpoint whether doing it had a positive affect. I'm going to say if it did, it was extremely minimal. It's 'nice' for site visitors to see the site is verified I guess.
I'd still do it again, as Google said it's worthwhile. Just a shame it's taken so long, and we couldn't measure success of failure.
I've done it on another site since, which was far smoother, rankings and traffic remained the same though.
Hi,
It took roughly 4 months to fully recover.
The dent in the graph doesn't look that significant, but the spike towards Christmas is way into the 300,000 mark..
Paid traffic paid a valuable part in keeping traffic steady (as you can see).
Regards
Alex
Do MOZ have an affiliate platform?
If so, it's hiding from me, would somebody care to point me the right way?
Shall I assume this is the page / they MOZ don't have a direct affiliate program?
Many Thanks
Hi all,
Looking through Analytics yesterday, I saw that my website had a huge increase in direct traffic in sessions. However, they apparently spent 0 seconds on the website in total so that raised plenty of red flags.
Does anyone have reasons why this might be? Spam or bug?
Thanks in advance!
Hi there,
Does anyone know if placing canonical tags in the body instead of the header of a page will still "take"? The system we are on means that making an editable header is no easy business and I was just wondering how big of a difference it makes to have it in a different area.
Thank you in advance.
I thought so! Thanks, Patrick, have a good weekend.
The url is safetymediadotcodotuk. Facebook's debugger says the following needs to be fixed:
Hi there, hoping for some help. I have a hunch but I can't be sure.
Whenever I go to publish a link on social media, I no longer see previews with the featured image or relevant meta. We have changed servers lately so I think maybe somethign has gone wrong with OpenGraph? Happens on Facebook and LinkedIn.
Hi all,
Have an Analytics account connected to my AdWords account which is showing HUGE gulfs in clicks and sessions for a CPM campaign. 500 clicks = 0 sessions.
Does anyone have any idea why this could be the case? Auto-tagging is on and everything looks to be in place. The website itself is on a 303 so I was wondering could that be impacting things? The CPC is also just 1p so that's got me very suspicious.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks Leonie,
I actually meant what timeframe it measures against to show whether your clicks and impressions have increased or decreased.
Hi guys,
I always thought that when checking out search queries on Webmaster Tools that it measured change per week. However, I noticed that my impressions and clicks were actually up but WMT was reporting that they were down over a week so it can't be that.
Does anyone know? Attached screenshot for clarity.
Thanks in advance!
It's not so much that one is a subdomain, it's that they are as different as Google and Yahoo yet they share the same root. I wish I could show you but I can't because of confidentiality.
The 303 wasn't put in place by me, I would have strongly suggested another method. I think it was set up so that both websites could be controlled from the same login but it's opened a can of worms for SEO.
I don't want the two separate robots files, the developer insists it has to be that way.
Thanks for your help so far.
The two different websites are different name domains but share the same root as it's been built this way on Typo3. I don't know of the developer's justification for the 303, it's something I wish we could change.
I'm not sure if there are specific tags you can put in the sole robots.txt to differentiate the two, have read a few conflicting arguments about how to do it.
It's Fasthosts. The developer is certain that we can't use the two separate robots files. The second website has been set up on a 303.
The developer of the website insists that they have to share the same robots.txt, I am really not sure how he's set it up this way. I am beyond befuddled with this!
What's led you to think that, Mat?
If you're using Chrome, there are a few decent extensions for this. They highlight nofollow links with a red border or something similar but they aren't always 100%. Hope this helps.
Depends on the CMS. Anything other than WP, I just go back through the list and tick them off if they're correct, might not be the quickest way to do it. Are you using WordPress? There's a redirection plugin which allows you to do each individually so you can check it's correct as soon as you've applied the 301.
I would really try to avoid using 302's if possible, they can end up being more trouble than they're worth.
Setting up 301 redirects is a pain but helps the moving process to be a lot smoother. Nobody enjoys putting together a redirect list but it's a necessity, have 1000 still to get through myself!
Hi,
I posted a similar question last week asking about subdomains but a couple of complications have arisen.
Two different websites I am looking after share the same root domain which means that they will have to share the same robots.txt. Does anybody have suggestions to separate the two on the same file without complications? It's a tricky one.
Thank you in advance.
That's about as comprehensive an answer as I could have hoped for. Thanks Ryan, really appreciated.
Hi guys!
I keep reading conflicting information on this and it's left me a little unsure. Am I right in thinking that a website with a subdomain of shop.sitetitle.com will share the same robots.txt file as the root domain?
I think you may be right, but the sheer amount of redirects necessary would mean that it could take me months. I have been posting 4 articles a day for the past year without fail - could it be worth just leaving the crawl errors and hoping that they eventually drop off? This is my quandary.
Hi guys, hope you've had a manageable working week. Just after some advice!
What would you think to changing the permalink structure of an already established entertainment website so that the category and postdate also appears in the URL, i.e "2014-01-01/news/this-is-the-post"? I have done it before without thinking about all the crawl errors it would cause and quickly reverted everything. However, I am now eager to get listed in Google News (don't worry, this isn't the only reason to change the URL) and think it might help things overall.
Thoughts? Worth the effort or a pointless exercise?
Hello,
Our current site is fully html with no cms. We're moving to a newer version today with a typo 3 cms.
My one worry is as follows;
On some pages an internal link opens a jquery lightbox, inside the lightbox will be a video or download link.
I cannot simply add a standard event url like I wanted to (utm_ link) as the pages are linked via the cms pointing to different pages, not the url's.
We really need the following appearing in Analytics, whether its an event or landing page;
I would really, really appreciate any help on this as the new website is going live today, regardless whether this has been resolved.
Thank you very much in advance of any replies.
Any help on this would be fantastic. "Google Analytics on Steroids" doesn't work unfortunately, nor does the Sander Heilbron script.
Didn't work, unsure why I tried as surely it needs a script for it to run?
Thanks for replying though.
Excuse the short reply.
Add sitemap to your robots.txt - And submit it to Google WMT.
Just use a free one if you're in the middle of developing?
Hello,
As i've ended up confusing myself, I thought I would ask the moz community whether i'm on the correct track!
I'm wanting full GA tracking on individual videos from our destination URL.
In short I need the name of each video to have specific tracking.
Example;
Video 1 (Apples)
Video 2 (Oranges)
Video 3 (Pears)
We need to be able to see the amount of plays per session, per video. As well as any extras if possible, such as;
Watched 25%, watched 50%, watched 75%, video complete, video paused.
If the following script is used; https://github.com/sanderheilbron/vimeo.ga.js
As well as using the Google URL builder (https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1033867?hl=en-GB) , what would be the best way to set each video to see the statistics within Google Analytics, so I can see how many plays the 'Apples' video has had. I think it is the ordering of the 'event, campaign, label etc' which has confused me.
Many Thanks for any replies in advance, I appreciate it.
Jeff - I am referring to destination URL only. Thanks
Linda - Good find, I will give it a try.
FYI - It's a one page site, we're trying to break up where possible.
Thanks.
Is it OK to use anchor links on the main URL of an advert on Google Adwords?
Example: www.example.com/#example
Had a little Google, and not much was returned on the topic.
Many Thanks,
Alex
5 weeks on, and the site is still recovering.
Obviously during this time Google announced its preferred status to HTTPS sites too!
Only yesterday did we return top for the brand name,.
To put a figure on how much damage has been caused on this matter, organic traffic (Google only) was down 35%, and organic revenue (Google only) Y-O-Y last month was down 60%.
Would love to know the reasoning for the huge drop in rankings, and the recovery time period to expect.
Around a quarter of the modules selected are actually showing on a report?
Unsure if this is an issue on Moz's part or my own - It has previously been fine and printed the whole report as requested (June was fine) The same report this month is only part compiling.
I have also manually created another report (with the same modules) and the exact thing happened.
Also - When choosing a campaign no stats show up there any longer, not a big problem but quite annoying all the same.
Thanks in advance for any help,
Alex
One week on and brand terms have gone the exact same way. We're on page 2 for our brand, yet dominated page one with 5-6 links before this https move. With absolutely no glimmer of hope for our organic terms.
None of the keywords which were been worked on (and getting results with) are getting anywhere,
I know and understand it is a waiting game to get the rankings back, however it is painful to see the rankings in such a state.
Can anybody recommend further steps to give the site a boost?
This article from Rand fascinates me, and gives some potential light at the end of the tunnel for a quick fix! http://moz.com/rand/queries-clicks-influence-googles-results/
Thanks in advance
One week ago. Would that not cause duplicate content? I thought about doing it that way round, but was a little worried about duplicating the whole site. (In hindsight it couldn't have been any worse)
Thank you for your reply.
Ah, that's a shame. It does our Images sitemaps / Web sitemaps without issue.
I would have thought it would have been okay with any videos. You could ask their support to test it, on the off-chance it collates the information you need it to, they're very good and get back to you within 24 hours.
What do you currently use?
We use the standalone version of www.xml-sitemaps.com and use a cron to update daily. Does its job perfectly well.
This made me say "What!" With some other words following.
http://moz.com/community/q/https-sitewide-move-has-resulted-in-huge-rankings-drop
Not specifically SEO, but when comments nowadays suggest link farming, also makes me go "What".
What makes you say 'what', White?
Hi Samuel,
Thanks for replying, I have however been on the above links before posting.
The points John Mueller mentioned were previously addressed, yet rankings have taken a colossal turn for the worse.
In the second link you posted i'm hoping this statement comes true!
"In our experience, even when 301's are correctly executed, we see a short term fall back (7-30) days and then about a 90% carry through after that period for about 90 days and then back to full strength. "
Alex
Hi all,
An e-commerce site has recently moved protocol to https sitewide.
The site ranked page one for some great terms and now appear to be page 2 or below. Brand terms seem unphased and are still very strong, on both Google and Bing.
The following has been done;
Most terms were ranked 1 - 9 on Bing, and Page 1/2 on Google.
HTTPS upgrade was done less than one week ago. The site is not payday loan related, nor was it hit by latest panda escapades. Everything on the site is relevant to the content.
Has anybody else been in this position, what else can be done?
I'd appreciate any help and advice. Thank You
Thank you for replying.
Absolutely the same. It has cost in excess of £2000, with no benefit to the company.
I've been through the change log, only differences to targeting options made, was to actually take out some of the display network websites.
Hi all,
I'm running through traffic figures from May as there was a huge spike.
This is down to a spike in Adwords, specifically the Display Network.
With nearly 3000 new placements where the ad could be shown, would anybody be able to explain as to how and why this has happened?
I've run through the change history, and nothing i've done explains the extra placements. Auto add placements was on, but has been on for 12 months with no more than 50 extra per month. The only change that has been done that may link is I've added a mobile phone extension on ads displayed on mobile devices?
The significant extra cost has been of no benefit to the campaign, as the advert displayed on various apps, forums and irrelevant websites.Would be great if anybody could shed some light here! Thank You
If you have no longer need for Page A, as the content will now be on Page B then a 301 redirect will / should take across any 'link juice'.
Take a look at this; http://moz.com/learn/seo/redirection
If you need Page A & B, is there a different URL you could use?
Currently, I don't believe you can, which is rather odd? Can you get the information you need from GA?
Custom dates would be handy too when it comes to reporting. Also a Vs period. (Vs last year etc!)
Strange, assuming you weren't logged into google when checking?
Have you got analytics for the .net? Or is it simply fowarded?
