SEO with duplicate content for 3 geographies
-
The client would like us to do seo for these 3 sites
http://www.solutionselectrical.com.au
http://www.calculatecablesizes.co.uk/
The sites have to targetted in US, Australia, and UK resoectively .All the above sites
have identical content. Will Google penalise the sites ?
Shall we change the content completly ? How do we approach this issue ?
-
So, shall i accept the project considering i am safe at seomoz !
That is entirely your decision. I would not recommend depending on SEOmoz for assistance. The Q&A is a fantastic resource for asking an occasional question, but some questions go unanswered and the quality of answers can vary.
You are being paid for your expertise on a subject. Only accept the job if you are confident you can offer a solid benefit to the client. I was very candid with my first clients about my experience. I offered to work hard, work extra and work for less money but I did not ever hide my lack of experience. You may wish to do the same.
Any tool to know the different terms used by australia and uk people.
None that I am aware of. I would recommend locating someone from each country.

Please clarify this.
Atul, the clarification is the 5 bullet points immediately following that statement.
what does it signify ?
It signifies the language used on the page.
Is this necessary ?
It depends what you mean by necessary.
It is a step towards solid SEO. Most solid SEO involves multiple layers. The idea is it would require multiple failures to cause a problem. I would recommend this step on any site which targets multiple languages or countries.
One could argue it is unnecessary because the proper setting in Google WMT alone should resolve the matter. But then again, the same setting would need to be made for any search engines for which you wish the site to rank.
What is the language code for uk and australia ?
Alex offered a good response to this question.
-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Language_localisation#Language_tags_and_codes
Australia isn't listed there but it's en-AU. It's necessary if you want to help Google recognise the sites are targeted to different countries, as Ryan mentions language and spellings differ slightly in various English-speaking countries.
-
Since all three sites are in the same language, be sure each site is properly directed to their respective countries
Please clarify this.
Use the proper language code meta tag such as EN-US for the .com

No. Google does not penalty sites for duplicate content if each site targets a different country.
Since all three sites are in the same language, be sure each site is properly directed to their respective countries. A few steps to take:
-
Use the proper language code meta tag such as EN-US for the .com.
-
You can set the country targets in Google WMT.
-
Use the proper form of English for each country. For example, US English should show "penalize" where UK and Australian English would show the same word as "penalise" (I think).
-
Use the proper currency and measurement systems for each country.
-
Use the appropriate cultural references for each site.

Duplicate content when working with makes and models?
Okay, so I am running a store on Shopify at the address https://www.rhinox-group.com. This store is reasonably new, so being updated constantly! The thing that is really annoying me at the moment though, is I am getting errors in the form of duplicate content. This seems to be because we work using the machine make and model, which is obviously imperative, but then we have various products for each machine make and model. Have we got any suggestions on how I can cut down on these errors, as the last thing I want is being penalised by Google for this! Thanks in advance, Josh

Categories VS Tag Duplicate Content
Hello Moz community, I have a question about categories and tags . Our customer www.elshow.pe just had a redesign of its website. We use the same categories listed before . The only change was that two sub categories were added ( these sub-categories were popular tags before ) .Then now I have 2 URL's covering the same content: The first is the URL of the subcategory : www.elshow.pe/realitys/combate/ The second is the URL that is generated by the tag "combate" that is www.elshow.pe/noticias/combate/ I have the same with the second sub category: "Esto es guerra" www.elshow.pe/realitys/esto-es-guerra/ www.elshow.pe/noticias/esto-es-guerra/ The problem is when I search the keyword "combate" in my country (Perú), the URL that positions is the tag URL in 1st page. But, when I search for "esto es guerra" the URL that positions is the **sub category **in the second page. I also check in OSE both links and sub categories goes better than tags. So what do you guys recommend for this? 301 redirect? canonicals? Any coment is welcome. Thanks a lot for your time. Italo,

Self inflicted duplicate content penalty?
Wondering if I could pick the brains of fellow mozer's. Been working with a client for about 3 months now to get their site up in the engine. In the three months the DA has gone from about 11 to 34 and PA is 40 (up from about 15) so that's all good. However, we seem not to be moving up the ranking much. The average DA of competitors in the niche in the top ten is 25. We have 9.2 times the average no of backlinks too. During a call to the client today they told me that they noticed a major drop in their rankings a few months back. Didn't say this when we started the project. I just searched for the first paragraph on their homepage and it returns 16,000 hits in google, The second returns 9600 and the third 1,400. Searching for the first paragraph of their 'about us' page gives me 13,000 results!! Clearly something is not right here. Looking into this, I seems that someone has use their content, word for word, as the descriptions on thousands of blogs, social sites. I am thinking that this, tied in with the slow movement in the listings, has caused a duplicate content penalty in the search engines. The client haven't copied anyone's content as it is very specific for their site but it seems all over the web. I have advised them to change their site content asap and hope we get a Panda refresh in to view the new unique content. Once the penalty is off i expect the site to shoot up the rankings. From an seo company point of view, should I have seen this before? Maybe. If they had said they suffered a major drop in rankings a few months back - when they dropped their seo agency, I would have looked into it, but one doesn't naturally assume that a client's copy will be posted all over the web, it is not something I would have searched for without reason to search Any thoughts on this, either saying yes or no to my theory would be most welcome please. Thanks Carl

Looking for a technical solution for duplicate content
Hello, Are there any technical solutions to duplicate content similar to the nofollow tag? A tag which can indicate to Google that we know that this is duplicate content but we want it there because it makes sense to the user. Thank you.

Duplicate Content
Hello guys, After fixing the rel tag on similar pages on the site I thought that duplicate content issue were resolved. I checked HTML Improvements on GWT and instead of going down as I expected, it went up. The duplicate issues affect identical product pages which differ from each other just for one detail, let's say length or colour. I could write different meta tags as the duplicate is the meta description, and I did it for some products but still didn't have any effects and they are still showing as duplicates. What would the problem be? Cheers

Duplicate Content in Dot Net Nuke
Our site is built on Dot Net Nuke. SEOmoz shows a very large amount of duplicate content because at the beginning each page got an extension in the following format: www.domain.com/tabid/110/Default.aspx The site additionally exists without the tabid... part. Our web developer says an easy fix with a canonical tag or 301 redirect is not possible. Does anyone have DNN experience and can point us in the right direction? Thanks, Ricarda

Duplicate Content Issue
Hello, We have many pages in our crawler report that are showing duplicate content. However, the content is not duplicateon the pages. It is somewhat close, but different. I am not sure how to fix the problem so it leaves our report. Here is an example. It is showing these as duplicate content to each other. www.soccerstop.com/c-119-womens.aspx www.soccerstop.com/c-120-youth.aspx www.soccerstop.com/c-124-adult.aspx Any help you could provide would be most appreciated. I am going through our crawler report and resolving issues, and this seems to be big one for us with lots in the report, but not sure what to do about it. Thanks

Root domain not resolving to www. Duplicate content?
Hi, I'm working with a domain that stays on the root domain if the www is not included. But if the www is included, it stays with the www. LIke this: example.com
Technical SEO | | HardyIntl

www.example.com Of course, they are identical and both go to the same IP. Do search engines consider that to be duplicate content? thanks,
