Should we move to a new domain??
-
Working with a company that is considering moving to a new domain and wanted some advice. They have 2 domains (they own both) and one is a shorter version of the other.
The current domain is over 10 years old and has a domain authority score of 80. It is 9 characters long.
The new domain (which they also own) has a DA score of 43 and is only 3 characters long.
The debate is as much about branding as anything but there is a concern on how it will affect search.
I was hoping for so advice and any pitfalls others may have experienced.
Thanks!!

I would probably be thinking about two things:
First for the domain authority / page rank, if you do the redirecting correctly (301) then you will probably see an initial drop off as the search engines try to figure out what happened, and then you should go back to where you were as it should still be taking into account the old domain's information along with the new domains info.
So the question there is whether or not the change is worth that minor hit.
So the second thing I would be asking is what does changing to the new domain get me?
Is it more memorable? Does it fit the brand better? Does it get your highest value keyphrase as the URL? etc... each answer would sway me one way or another.
As an example I once new of a site that sold church furniture, and they had the chance to get "Pews.com", while switching over to this URL would be a pain, I would totally suggest going after it, and embracing it as it hit one of their strong keywords.
The other option of course was to build a subsidiary site just for pews (since they sold more than just pews), but that is where you need to look at your brand, and how you want to market yourself over time. For the pews.com example I could easily see re-creating the brand as "Pews.com" as that is much more memorable, and quickly tells users in my industry what I do, and how to find me all at once.
The branding question is obviously the bigger one here as I think the historical value, and links of the domain will transfer over fine as long as you do the technical pieces you need to.

Highly ranked pages to new domain?
Hi everyone! We are ranked #1 for about 30 product pages at www.oldsite.com/product1 and we are wanting to move about 30 of those pages to a new site www.newsite.com/product1 (new domain and hosting - which we own). What is the best way to do this? I'm confused if you recreate those pages on the new domain vs. ftp move them, 301 re-directs, etc. Looking for the things we must do and the sequence to do it all, etc. Thanks so much!

Why is wrong domain being indexed?
We have 2 domains: revolve.com and fwrd.com (unrelated to each other, but hosted on the same server). If you do a site search for revolve.com but enter a designer brand that is only carried on FWRD (not on Revolve), the domain "revolve.com" pops up in the SERP, which is redirected to FWRD.com. Ex. https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=site%3Awww.revolve.com isabel marant Why is Google indexing the revolve.com pages, which don't actually exist? Thanks.

Do you get links from new websites?
There's a new industry specific website that looks decent. It's clean and nothing spammy. However, it's so new it's DA is under 10. Is it worth pursuing a link from a site like this? On one hand, there's nothing spammy and it is industry specific. On the other...it's just DA is so terrible (worse than any of our other links), I don't want it to hurt us. Any thoughts? Ruben

Why do some domains out rank stronger authority domains
Hi, If we take the Moz stats into account here, how comes sometimes weak Moz stat domains out ranking strong Moz stat domains? For example: A inner page with DA56 / PA40 is outranking a Wikipedia inner page with DA100 / PA82. That's a massive difference basically twice as strong on the Wikipedia page but being out ranking. In this case I assume the onpage SEO is playing a big part, but can onpage optimisation be that powerful? And I see this all the time, what SEO factors cause this? Thanks.

How to move domain content w Penguin Penalty?
Hey guys, I've come to the conclusion the sheer amount of crap links a site of ours has is un repairable. We own a .net version with the same brand name so I'm planning to move our ecommerce store over with all its content. I can move the site in one swoop but I believe Google will see it as duplicate content if we don't allow the old site to de index first. I would simply take it down for a month but we still get some orders now and then. Anyone have any ideas? I was thinking of leaving an image up on each page that is no index no follow linked to the new site that explains the site is being moved, etc.

Improve Domain Trust
Hey there, I need to improve the Domain trust of my website. I've seen the blogitems of Rand but I still have questions. If I want to increase the Domain Trust..I "simpely" have to get links from websites with a high Domain Trust. This will eventually improve my Domain trust. But what are the effects if I do this by reciprocal linking. Does this eliminates the trust that comes from the other website.
