Exact match subdomains

Hi, I have seen significant SEO benefits from owning exact match domains and was wondering whether exact match subdomains hold the same (or some) of these benefits?
eg.
halloweencostumes.co.uk vs. halloween [dot] costumes.co.uk

I agree. But at the same time because its still on the main domain which has authority i have a hard time believing the engines don't trust the url more as a sub-domain vs a bran new url.

Thanks for your response. Interesting to hear about your experience with exact match sub-pages. Sub-pages benefit from URL structure and domain authority. Would be also be interesting to compare with exact match subdomains where weight isn't passed from the root domain and relies primarily on URL keywords.

One of my clients has around 20 terms on his site that we created exact match sub-pages for which are basically:
These rank very well, I can't say they are as good as an actual exact domain match but they def help get us ranking faster because the keywords in the url at all create authority.

Crawler issues on subdomain - Need resolving?
Hey Guys, I'm fairly new to the world of SEO and have a ton of crawler issues with a friends website I'm doing some work on. After Moz did a site crawl I'm getting loads of errors (Total of 100+ for critical crawler, content and meta data). Most of these are due to broken social links on a subdomain - so my question is do I need to resolve all of the errors even if they are on a sub-domain? Will it affect the primary website? Rel Canonical for Exact Same Copy?
I've read about using rel canonical tags for product pages like "blue shorts" vs "red shorts" but if I have two pages with the exact same copy - different URL's - but same copy, can I use a rel canonical tag and be okay for duplicate content purposes? (There is is reason the page is exactly the same, at least for the time being, so I'm just focusing on how not to be get penalized as opposed to rewriting it at the moment). Thanks, Ruben

1000+ links from domain to subdomain - impacting?
Hi there! I'm wondering if anyone could kindly help me with this question. I have a domain let's say: thisdomain.com - and I also have a subdomain called widgets.thisdomain.com thisdomain.com has approx 2000 pages on it. There are site wide links in the top nav, side nav and footer pointing to widgets.thisdomain.com (all with the same anchor text - not branded - it's a money term). My question is, do you think this would be causing some kind of algorithmic penalty (over optimisation / penguin)? Or, do you think Google realises these links are pointing to a subdomain and says, "hey, OK we understand these two domains could be related" or given subdomains are seen as essentially standalone websites, the algo is saying "hang on a minute, pal, this looks fishy, why are you linking to this subdomain 1000+ times with sitewide links on the same anchor text"? Should I nofollow these sitewide links? Do you think that will help? I would really appreciate any help on this one. Cheers!

Automatic subdomain redirection programmed over a given period?
Hi all, I have a technical problem that is quite beyond my "expertise", and I'm wondering if someone can help me to find a way to handle this. My website automatically changes appearance and some content as well twice a year (summer and winter), and we also change the sub domain, like this: September to may > www.nameofmysite.com and june to august > summer.nameofmysite.com I know it's a bit tricky, and we're doing this with a 303 redirection and will also provide a possibility (via a button) to switch beetwen "seasons". To sum up, during the "summer" I've got: http://summer.nameofmysite.com/webzine/news/name-of-my-page.html and during the "winter": http://www.nameofmysite.com/webzine/news/name-of-my-page.html As you can see, it's the same content, with a temporary redirection 303. Best practice for eCommerce site migration, should I 301 redirect or match URLs on new site
Hi Guys, I have been struggling with this one for quite some time. I am no SEO expert like many of you, rather just a small business owner trying to do the right thing, so forgive me if I say something that makes no sense 🙂 I am moving our eCommerce store from one platform to another, in the process the store is getting a massive face lift. The part I am struggling with is whether I should keep my existing URL structure in place or use 301 redirects to create a cleaner looking URLs. Currently the URLs are a little long and I would love to move to a /category/product_name type format. Of course the goal is not to lose ranking in the process, I rank pretty well for several competitive phrases and do not want to create a negative impact. How would you guys handle this? Exact match and Bing
Hi Folks Fairly new to SEO and had two questions; 1- I have an SEO group doing work for us on a particular keyword, for the site http://bluetea.com.au/ .... however i've noticed that we only rank for the exact match of the keyword we ask them to work on... never a variation or even the plural .... Any thoughts? 2- http://bluetea.com.au/ has been around for almost 2 years however we still have absolutely no presence in Bing / Yahoo.... what am I missing.. any tips? Articles I must read? Thank you in advance 🙂

Do knowledge base plugins on a subdomain have seo benefit?
Hi SEO Moz, We want to use a knowledge base plugin (cheaper & faster than building it ourselves) where we can have Q&As for our website. We want this to help with our SEO by adding in our keyterms that we want to rank for. We've looked into TenderApp & Get Satisfaction which look like good solutions - however, as they're both on a sub-domain do we get any seo benefit from this? When people link to our knowledge base, will this help our website at all - or is the benefit going to go to TenderApp/Get Satisfaction? For instance - Our website URL is http://widget.products.com The KB URL is http://widgetsupport.products.com If the above plugin is not a good solution, is there anything else that is better? Any help will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks.

Subdomain Setting in MozBar
I'm using the MozBar on FF6 and have a question about the selector next to "Root Domain" When I set it to "Subdomain", I notice that DmR and DmT are different from the root domain. Am I looking at DmR and DmT for all subdomains (www included)?
