Is it a bad idea to build unique sites to build credibility for your main site?
-
It is hard to sum up the question in one line, but basically my company has bought several descriptive domains that we would like to build out into microsites that link back to our main site.
For example...say we are a florist. Our main site talks about all the different kinds of flowers we have and the work we do.
So the idea is to buy weddingflowersdallas.com (example only...) and have a mini site that has the same look and feel as our main site, but has unique content that talks solely about our wedding flower business and has a few links back to our main site.
1. Is this a no no from a google perspective?
2. Is this a good strategy in general?
Thanks,
David

The general response you'll see in the SEOmoz Q&A is towards spending your time on your main site rather than creating lots of micro sites. Arguments for one site include only having to update/maintain one site instead of five the next time there's an update to the software you're using, and not having to do all of your link building times five (if you have four micro sites and your main site). With microsites, you're often splitting up the value of your sites into pieces, rather than having all of the value go to your one main site.

Definitely have no desire to do anything close to black hat...so redirection and the like just isn't on the table.
We have several divisions here and while our main site talks about all of them, it is easy to get lost in the shuffle.
The idea here is to have a site with a descriptive domain that talks about a single division (i.e. wedding flowers as opposed to funeral arrangements). We would have links back to our main site, of course, for people to learn more about the company, but each site would have unique content and would stand on it's own.

I think this would be 'Doorway pages' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doorway_page) and more specifically:
"More sophisticated doorway pages, called Content Rich Doorways, are designed to gain high placement in search results without using redirection. They incorporate at least a minimum amount of design and navigation similar to the rest of the site to provide a more human-friendly and natural appearance. Visitors are offered standard links as calls to action."
Doorway pages are not allowed by Google.

Hello, I regularly build links and save them in excel file. But I don't know what should I do after building them? Should I ping them? Share on social media or leave until they are not indexed? thanks

Site wide back links
Hi, One of our sites has a site-wide link from another site. So, Google sees 6700 pages from that site link to one of our pages. Is that something to be concerned about? The other site is http://www.daum.net/ We also have 2000 pages that blogspot.com links to us from. Both these sites have high domain authority, so I would hope all those links score well. But I certainly don't want to be penalized for links that appear spammy. Thank you in advance.

Most significant link building factor
Am I right in thinking the most important link building factor is the number of unique linking root domains? Multiple links from a domain won't help me so much?

Content Strategy - High Value on Lots of Sites vs. High Value on One Site
Good afternoon Mozzers. I have a discussion based question and I'd be interested to know your thoughts. I currently implement a content strategy where we create a series of high value How-to written articles, relevant to our audience and then work at getting them placed on multiple high value websites. I have just been offered an opportunity with a PR6 domain to create a similar series of content but place it all on their site with links back to ours through a dedicated section. So my question is would I gain more value from small amounts of great content in lots of places vs. a lot of great content in on place? Effectively 1 link from 20 sites vs. 20 links from 1 site.

Most effective method for link building?
From your experience, what have you found to be the most effective method for link building? It's starting to look like the only way to receive good links is by writing great content or offering great services and allowing the links to come in naturally (which is obviously the most important thing anway), but are there still any effective methods of getting valuable links through link building, apart from having personal connections and relationships with site owners?

Build Links with Bloggers
Hi! A few days ago, someone asked about how to ask links from bloggers and we got good answers, specially from Egol. But, I do want to add to that question: after conducting research on each blogger and make sure they have good quality content, how would you factor in their page rank, visitors, page view and social media info? if they don't have much traffic, with PR3 (we are PR4), which means we can't count on too much traffic from them, but, will backlink from such places deemed as quality link by Google? I do understand the higher number in PR and traffic is better, but, in our case, they don't come by often. Is it still worthwhile to do the lower sites?

Directories and Link Building
I was reading a post by Eric Enge, http://www.seomoz.org/blog/role-of-directories-in-link-building and nobody talked about in the comments, so I want to see what you think: Considering that get some bad links from punished directories is bad for your site, it's worth to use site submissions softwares, like SubmitEaze, that promisses a 1,000 submits?
