Autoswitching of language
-
Hi all,
I got a resort & spa hotel that has as index page an autoswitching language that redirects you to EN if you're English, ITA if you're italia, ESP, RU etc etc.
Does this affects the ranking?
The root index.php only has this programming lines that redirect users to their browser language.
This was done cause we really hate intro pages that lets you select language.

i don’t really like the idea of users having to select language, but it is better then the coded redirects I believe.
I would rather go for one of the 2 solutions i suggested before.

Hi Alan, thanks for your reply, and many sorry for my english..
the php makes this, there's just the title tag and no descripton and anything.
if your italian goes to www.url.com/it-it else www.url.com/en-en and so on.. every installation of language is not generated but is made with 5 different subfolders cause the accessibility between languages is different...
In your opinion I should create an intro page with
"select your language?"
I absolutely trust your advices.
Thanks again.

The programming on the home page redirecting is more then likely going to upset rankings, what does the search engine see? You will have 3 home pages trying to rank, when people link to domainname.com where will the link juice go?
You may also have duplicate content issues but I am not sure how SE’s handle the fact that they are in different languages you maybe ok I don’t know
I have a couple of solutions I am not sure if they are options for youSE’s will not do you for duplicate content if your sites are hosted in different countries on different TLD’s ; .au .uk .ru , so splitting into 3 sites may help you, each country will more then likely find the site from their own geo area.
In ASP.Net we have globalization, I assume php has something simular, this is where you put all content into resource files, one for each language, depending on the settings of the users computer it pulls out the correct content

In writing the url, it is better to use the language used by the people of my country or English?
We speak Persian and all people search in Persian on Google. But I read in some sources that the url should be in English. Please tell me which language to use for url writing?

HREFLANG: language and geography without general language
Some developers always implement the hreflang for German (which should be "de") as "de-de", so language German and country Germany. There is usually no other German version targeting the other German-speaking countries (mostly ch, at). So obviously the recommendation is to make it "de" and that's the end. But I kept wondering and not finding anything: IF there is a more specialised hreflang, will google take that if there is no default? Example: Search in: de-at (or de-ch) Search result has the following hreflang versions: de-de; x-default (==en), en => Will Google give the result for x-default or de-de?

Greek language distinctiveness
Hello, i am facing the below problem and want your help. I will give an example for you to understand. The problem with the Greek language is that in or words we have tones above a letter in the most words. I will present now which the problem is. When you want to write dissertation the right way is "πτυχιακές εργασίες" and this is the most important service we offer the problem is that people are searching using the same keyword but without the tones like : "πτυχιακες εργασιες" . If you see monthly searches in keyword planner the difference in volume is huge. Also in rankings for the first one i am on place 2 but for the second one i am on place 3. The problem is that i cannot have the grammatically wrong phrase in my page title and also in my content so what should i do? The same problem is almost on all keywords where people are searching without a tone or searching the same phrase using English characters like "ptyxiakes ergasies". I have fully analyzed the problem. Please give a hand thanks in advance

Google not index main keyword on homepage in 2 countries same language, rest of pages no problem
Hello, Two the same websites, two countries, same language http://www.lavistarelatiegeschenken.nl / http://www.lavistarelatiegeschenken.be The main keyword "relatiegeschenken" in top 10 of netherlands (steady position for 2 years) and in ** belgium** not in top 15****0 the main keyword "relatiegeschenken| but other keywords good positions, thats so strange I didn't understand and now every thing turned around suddenly: Now the main keyword "relatiegeschenken suddenly " not anymore in top 10 in the netherslandsits gone and other kewyords still good positions , now **main keyword suddenly in top 10 of belgium 2 years was not **other pages still ok. It are exactly the same websites and the same language. So double content But my programmer told me in google webmaster tools settings are right, so no problem with double content ? I really dont understand first main keyword in netherland in top 10 and in belgium not, now changed, now in belgium top 10 and not findable in the netherland on the main keyword. Maybe problem in code ? Maybe problems in code because websites are identical and active in two different countries wit same language ? No message about a penalty message in WMT, no spam links week i delete two strong but according to Linkdetox a bad links. I can not find a solution but its really important keyword that my customer want back in top 10 in netherland, like it was. All other positions and visitors are the same. Befor i have had this with belgium site, also main keyword google not index homepage. But suddenly no google show in belgium in top 10 Its turned around Kind regards, Marcel

Doctype language declaration problem
Hello,
Technical SEO | | Silviu
I have a problem with an SEM Rush warning on a website audit, for www.enjoyprepaid.com. It tells me "5852 pages are lacking language declaration", but I don't understand what it means and how to actually fix this problem. Also I run a W3 validator and have a doctype and language problem but again don't understand what they mean and how to fix them https://validator.w3.org/nu/?doc=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.enjoyprepaid.com%2FAfghanistan-calling-cards-2.html0 -
Multi language and multi target eCommerce site in EU
Hi, before I raised this question I red some other topics which were relevant to my question, however every topic had some slight difference between the various scenarios. I run a webshop with .eu domain (notebookscreen.eu) which currently runs on 3 languages. We use geoIP to determine the user's location for the following reasons: language currency shipping fee The site runs very slow during the tests, and most of the testers (including MOZ) fails since it has too many 302 redirects. We are rebuilding this part to fix this redirect and need some advice what is the best to optimise for multiple countries. As said in the title this is a shop mainly targeting EU countries, and next to the .eu domain we have 10 other country level TLD registration. Currently we do subfolder stile. Would it be better to do subdomain per country or separate TLD for every country. Current option is the best for backlinks, I don't think second has any gains. Having dedicated TLDs can help to local SERP for every country, however we would need a lot of back-linking. Also if someone starts with the .eu page, a 3xx redirect is needed for the designated country. Different sites do it differently. Some don't care (Apple), some stay on one page and gives you local currency and shipping rates (eBay), or moves to different TLD (Amazon). Is there any better way to determine someone's location other then GeoIP?

Hreflang and canonical for multi-language website
Hi all, We're about to have a new website in different languages and locations, which will replace the existing one. Lets say the domain name is example.com. the US version will be example.com/en-us/ and the UK version will be example.com/en-uk/. Some of the pages on both version share the same content. So in order to solve it, we're about to use hreflang on each page + a canonical tag which will always use the US address as canonical address. My question is - since we are using canonical tag along with hreflang, is there a possibility that a user who is searching with Google.co.uk will get the canonical US address instead of the UK address? Or maybe the search engine will know to display the right localized address since (UK) i've been using hreflang? It is really important for me to know, because i'm afraid we will lose the high rankings that we have right now on google.co.uk. Thanks in Advance

Best practices for switching site languages around
Hi folks. The site in question is at http://bit.ly/UDV186 It is split into English and Spanish versions, each at root/en and root/es respectively. The home page is in Spanish. We're trying to rank the site for English keywords so we want to switch the homepage to English and put the Spanish version as secondary. What are the best practices for this? Can we just literally swap the two versions around onto the existing URLs, i.e. take the English text and put it onto the home page? Provided all links point to the correct page, would that be fine? Are there any other best practice considerations to take? Thanks in advance.
