Rand's blogging graphics
-
What software and graphics does Rand use to make his blog posts look so good? I recall seeing a blog about it that gave tips and insights for adding graphics to your blog posts.

We're SEOs. What are we supposed to use Flash for, building websites or something?
-
Maybe a little like using a 10 pound sledgehammer to crack a peanut shell, but those vector images are always going to be good to look at!

Were you thinking of the "How to Create Presentations Like Rand" post at http://www.seomoz.org/blog/how-to-create-presentations-like-rand?
-
Donnie's spot on. A decade ago, I used to build Flash websites and became familiar and fast with the software. Thus, I still use it to create diagrams, flowcharts, wireframes and most of the graphics you see in my posts. It's certainly not professional quality, but it's quick and effective for simple blog illustrations.
That said, I probably wouldn't recommend Flash as an actual graphics tool to anyone. Most designers I know cringe at the thought of using an animation program to make simple 2D diagrams.

Just in case Rand doesn't see this question... he uses flash

Hi Noah,
Obviously Rand is the one to answer the first part of your question.
As for the blog post you mentioned, I'm thinking perhaps it was Dr Pete's "Content Marketing for the Talent Impaired"?

Is it worth to change a blog from a subdomain to subfolder?
We have a blog in a subdomain since some years and we are thinking about moving it to a subfolder, to see if we can boost the main domain (incoming links + fresh content). Could be worth it?

Looking for advice on blog implementation...
I am getting ready to implement a blog for my company. We have our website controlled through a commercial Content Management System that has a blog feature, but it is cumbersome to use and doesn't have all the bells and whistles of a Wordpress blog for example. I know for SEO purposes that we would be better to use the CMS blog and make it a subfolder (www.mysite.com/blog) instead of using a subdomain (blog.mysite.com). However, we would like to use the hosted WordPress blog and find a way to retain the same SEO value for our www.mysite.com site that it would provide being a subfolder on the site. Any suggestions? Installing Word Press CMS on our current web servers is not an option. We would have to use Wordpress hosting services for the blog.
