SEOMOZ .org?
-
So... Why the .org and not the .com for seomoz? Just curious...
Is it just to make it seem less commercial?
What do you all think?
-
I agree. I've been around less than a month watching webinars/seminars and I already feel like my mind is in a much better place for IM/SEO.
@Rand The free first month definitely hooked me in.

We owe a lot of that reputation to great people like you Sha!

Hi Bondtana,
I believe when Rand first started what was then a blog intended to share his own experiments in SEO, it was never intended to be commercial, and so the .org.
Obviously, it grew into a blog with a massive following and resulted in the company becoming what it is today.
Actually, I happen to think that the .org is still appropriate...it would be hard to argue that the site is not home to one of the most information rich, industry leading, generous & sharing communities on the Net. Not just in SEO.
Also hard to argue that there is a more authoritative information source in the Inbound marketing space.
Hope that helps,
Sha

Here's a blog post on the history of SEOmoz. http://www.seomoz.org/blog/the-history-of-seomoz. Rand writes that in 2004, "In an attempt to grow my skillset, I participate vigorously on half a dozen SEO forums and eventually build SEOmoz.org as a site to host my thoughts, struggles and discoveries."
I also watched Rand speak last week, and he stated that he never intended it to be this type of business site, it was originally a blog to write about what he was going through.

Am I better off buying a .com with a stopword or a .net / .org without?
I'm trying to decide between three domains:
Branding | | Andrew_Mac
mydomain.com
domain.net
domain.org What's the latest word on if there is an actual SEO impact to the stopword or whether it is just ignored entirely? Further, does anyone have any insight into whether any of these domains are seen as more credible (from a searcher's standpoint)? Thanks so much!0 -
Can we use SEOMOZ to get insights/data on the members of a twitter list?
It would be so useful if we could get insights into the members of a twitter list in the same way we can get statistics on the people we search through the "search twitter bio" options (following/followers/RTs/Social Authority/etc). This is possible through the twitter api but it limits to 20 list member which is useless. Anyone know of a solution? Thanks!

Long term risks of using .org for commercial websites
Hi everybody, I'm having a 'heated' discussion with a collegae about .org domains. Originally .org domains were created for non-profit organizations and it was fairly difficult to get a .org domain ( like .gov and .edu still are). Nowadays it's easy to register a .org domain and i see plenty of commercial .org emd's ranking well. We are planning on launching a new white label in the Netherlands (.nl) and have several domains in our portfolio that we can us for this. I recommend using an exact match .org domain (.nl and .com are already taken) for the new white label www.exactkeyword.org. **My collegae says don't use www.exactkeyword.org, because we aren't a non-profit organizaton and we can't garantuee we won't lose our rankings over the next 3 to 4 years. He would recommend going with the available www.exact-keyword.info. ** Who right and who's wrong and why? Can i garantuee no risk with .org for a commercial organization?

SEOMoz homepage - the lack of img alt tags
This might be a stupid question but the homepage of SEOMoz doesn't have img alt tags on the three feature screenshots. I've hovered my mouse and looked at the code, the images just have the link to www.seomoz.org/features Everyone goes adding image tags is key, any reason why SEOMoz don't?

SEOmoz Twitter Account Graphic
Hey guys, Could someone please tell me how the SEOMoz team were able to add a graphic on their Twitter profile (https://twitter.com/SEOmoz) underneath their followers? It's the graphic of the plane flying. When I go to the Twitter settings, I only seem to find how to change the background of the profile, nothing in regards to adding a graphic on that spot. Thanks!

Anyone using Followerwonk? Email said SEOMOZ just aquired it.
Hi, So looks like SEMOZ just aquired followerwonk.com and that I have free access to this system. I had a quick look at it and it seems like it's an analytics program for twitter. Anyone used it? And can you use it to help grow your list? Cheers

Google+ business pages and Schema.org
Hi All, I'm an SEO for a company that runs a number of brands. I'm in the process of setting up the Google+ pages for these brands and decided to watch the Microformats & Schema.org - Real life Use Cases - Mozinar by Richard Baxter and the Online Reputation Management: Branding for SERP Domination Mozinar by Rhea Drysdale to help understand the best way to achieve this. One of the suggestions by Richard Baxter was to include the authorship schema.org, but I can't see how this can be done for an organisation instead of an individual. My question is, how do you manage authorship when your not able to link websites to Google+ business pages, only profiles? How have you managed this on SEOMoz for example? Hope you can help. Thanks Jojo
