Company Blog Killing our Rankings?
-
Our product is organic, eco, natural etc. Our blog covers organic, eco, natural culture. Sounds like a winner right?
But what if we sold jars and our blog rarely talked about jars because jars are Boring?
In webmaster tools, our keyword significance for the word organic is ranked 1st but for the word jars we're ranked 41st .
Should i be placing our blog on a subdomain to make sure Google starts placing more emphasis on our jars? ie content on our site rather than content on our blog?

Thanks for your help so far. btw...we don't actually sell jars ;-).
No drop in rankings because we've had the blog since the get-go.
My biggest concern is that, because of our blog, very little of my overall content is about jars. This may effect our rankings since the ratio is way off....jar content to other.
Has anyone heard of Google differentiating blog content vs website content or have experienced this?
I am missing keyword rich anchor text links and i'm working hard on this. Strong non-spammy profile to date.
If i subdomain my blog it increases the jar related content ratio on my site but i lose the backlinks since subdomaining it essentially creates a separate site.
Does the ratio affect my ability to rank?

Yes, Sir!

You need to find a new line of business. If you sell jars you should be able to sing loudly about them with enthusiasm and verve.
In webmaster tools, our keyword significance for the word organic is ranked 1st but for the word jars we're ranked 41st .
Most people who have a highly focused site see their primary keywords at or near the top of the list.
Should i be placing our blog on a subdomain to make sure Google starts placing more emphasis on our jars? ie content on our site rather than content on our blog?
If you are selling jars, your blog should be in a folder on your primary domain. Placing it in a subdomain is ineffective and blogging about other stuff is farting around.

LIke jassy is saying i dont think your blog will be bad for your ranking. I would try to focus on getting some good links> Dont try to get a lot of scrappy links but better spend your time on getting good proper links. This should help you get up your rankings.

Schmeetz, did you actually see a drop in rankings after creating a blog? Seems odd. If that happened, there's probably other things going on that need looking at.
I would target the content for the 'jar' related pages towards jars. Perhaps create some internal links with jar-related phrases to those pages too.
Try and build some external links with partial or even exact match anchor text too - but try and keep the link profile looking un-spammy. (It may be worth doing some analysis of competitors to look at their link profiles before embarking on this.)
A blog that's about organic-type things that earns links in a folder vs subdomain? Keep it in a folder, the links will help the overall authority of your site.

Content Creation For Blog & Ranking Locally
Hey Everyone, I'm trying to rank for specific long tail key words such as: lower back pain treatment exercises lower back surgery options herniated disc exercises and etc. My question is: If I create a blog or article on these key words and integrate content and video within it and on youtube, will these blog posts come up locally when someone searches it within my area?

I want to use some content that I sent out in a newsletter and post as a blog, but will this count as duplicate content?
I want to use some content that I sent out in a newsletter a while ago - adding it as a blog to my website. The newsletter exists on a http://myemail.constantcontact.com URL and is being indexed by Google. Will this count as duplicate content?

Blog Content if Google has stated it doesn't like your blog?
Hi guys, In the new 'mobile usability' tab in Webmaster Tools, Google has stated that our blog isn't offering a good experience for users. Something we already knew and I want to change, but I can't get the budget approved to complete the work. I was just wondering if you think Google isn't going to hold my content very high as a result. I want to produce more content on our blog around our valuable keywords in hope to improve our rankings, but if Google isn't holding our site in high regard I'm thinking there may not be much point in it. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks Brian

What are the effects of posting on a blog site using copied content from your site if you source the site on the blog site?
I have noticed that some of my pages from my site are posted to different blog sites and directory submissions they are word for word what is on my site but at the bottom of the page it does list my site as the source and there are links in the text back to my site. Is this going to negatively effect my rankings or is it ok since my site is sourced in the article?

Could posting on YouMoz get you penalized for "Guest Blogging?"
From my understanding, Matt Cutts hates guest blogging, so I told all of the attorneys here not to write anywhere but on our blog. However, I realized people are constantly "guest blogging' on Moz, and considering how smart these people are, it must not be hurting them or they wouldn't do it. However, what I don't understand is why? Yes, I do get that the quality of what's on YouMoz is high and not spammy, but I got the impression that didn't really matter. Guest blogging would get you into trouble no matter what. Can someone clarify for me? Thanks, Ruben

Can I delete an old blog post and be ok?
I wrote some blog posts on my wordpress blog a few years ago that I no longer want on my site. I have them "no index" and "no follow" but everytime I run a report on my site they still seem to pop up. If I just delete the posts will it result in a broken link for my site? Or is there another way I can go about it? Thanks guys
