Mechanical Turk for reviews
-
Hi all,
The website we run is B2B and we have a very difficult time getting customers to write reviews. We have some ideas in the works to get some organically, but I'm exploring the option of using Mechanical Turk. I want the reviews to be sincere, or at least somewhat insightful for customers, but mainly I'm looking for unique content. Does anyone have experience with this or advice on the matter? Thanks in advance!

How can you use Mechanical Turk here in an ethical way? Are the writers going to actually use your product? I doubt it (unless it's an informational product, and you're giving it away to them for free? You didn't really offer too much information).
I agree with EGOL - if you don't ask for reviews, you wont get them. In one of my businesses where this is relevant, we specifically ask for a review of the order process at the time of the order, on the thank you page. We also email 24 hours later to solicit a review, and again 7 days later. Anyone who actually does leave a review, we again hit them up for a social "share" or the review they just left. Even with all of that, our review rate is only 1-2% of our customers. Simply put, if you're not aggressively soliciting reviews, they're not going to happen.
On a more functional level, make sure it's as easy as possible to actually write the review. Facebook or twitter integration could make it easier, streamlining the login process (or skipping it altogether), or getting rid of captcha (this would obviously go hand in hand with manually deleting junk reviews, or disallowing links of any kind).

... if you want reviews then ask your customers....
Any time a customer tells you that they like a product or that you did a great job is an excellent time to ask for a review. Tell them how much it would help you.
Also, lots of the review systems automatically send an email message to the customer a few days after the purchase (about the time it would arrive by mail).
If you do not ask for reviews they will not happen.

Thanks EGOL, I definitely see your point. Do you have any suggestions to get reviews in B2B? We literally don't get any product reviews at all.

Just opinion... If you want content hire a genuine content writer.... if you want reviews then ask your customers instead of getting "pot luck" from MT.... your customers are smarter than you think... they will be able to smell the phony Turker BS.

Google Reviews Plugin - Does This Impact Negatively On SEO By Diluting Optimisation
I know optimisation is now considered 'old hat' but like many old hats not only is it comfortable but it is (in my experience) still functional and working in ranking websites. Yes there are plenty of other drivers, but I still consider optimisation to be important, hence the question Google Reviews Plugin - Does This Impact Negatively On SEO By Diluting Optimisation? From my (limited in many ways) understanding this puts hundreds if not thousands of extra words on a page - so this must surely be reducing the amount of optimisation? And then could it actually lead to a decline in rankings? Has anyone had any experience in this, I would love to use the Google Reviews plugin but just wanted to be sure first... Many thanks KT

Hi All, We're planning to add Customers Reviews tab on product pages ! And, We'll display Shopper Approved reviews on product pages. But, I have biggest concern for internal duplication. If we will display similar reviews on all product pages then it will create internal duplication issue and We may get impact for Google Penalty. What should we Do to display Shopper approved reviews on all products.

Review rich snippet with reviews hosted on customer feedback company's website?
Is it possible to enable rich snippets for reviews that are not visible on the page in question? A restaurant's Wordpress website mentions the average rating but the actual customer feedback and reviews are displayed on a page on the website of the feedback company. Would it be enough to implement a small widget (displays star rating, number of reviews and links to the review page) and add microdata/J-SON to convince search engines that the reviews are legit? Thanks in advance! Bas

Product page reviews issues
Hi, We've implemented pagination on the reviews with rel=next/prev, but have seen no improvements since this. An example page with reviews is here. Can you see any issues on this that would be causing the problem? Thanks!

Streaming Google Places Reviews
Google no longer lets users pull an iframe of places reviews. I can't find a plugin for wordpress that will do this either. Any suggestions on how to show Google places reviews on your website? Or... should we blow it off and just go with yelp / City Search reviews?

How to publish periodic reviews in a month, year, etc basis?
Hello, in many niches you can make reviews with the "Best XXXX of March of 2011" "Best XXXX of April 2011" " March 2012" etc So, per instances, "best movies of march 2011" what would you do? A. 1 post for each mont and year /movies-march-2011/ /movies-april-2011/ /movies-march-2012/ B. 1 post/page for each year and keep updating /movies-march/ /movies-april/ B.I. Keep in the content the best movies of each year with a TOC or something similar B.II. Remove each year the previous content and create a fresh version of the content, updating the publication date but keeping the slug. My question is because I managed to ranked first for i.e. movies march 2010 but then in march 2011 I didnt know what to do because I wanted to show updated content but I was afraid i lost my ranking if I changed the whole content. Would you go for A. or B.? If B. for B.I. or B.II.? Thanks and regards
