Social mentions and 301 to new domain
-
Hi all,
I have noticed that when moving to a new domain your normal links will move along with you when you set proper 301 redirects and use google webmaster tools. But I'm under the impression your twitter mentions, fb likes etc. on the different pages will be lost...
I'm looking forward to your comments and ideas.
Cheers

Sure they are no-follow but since I was pushing people to share the different longtail pages I have seen a raise in the longtail rankings so I'm under the impression these share did have part to do with that.
I'm under the impression the Panda update changed quite a bit...

As far as i know FB and Twitter uses nofollow on all links so it wouldn't affect your search engine ranking anyway. Since you're doing a 301 all visitors should be redirected to the correct page anyway. So i wouldn't worry too mucch about it.

Diving into Social Media...
Hi Our company has a Facebook page - it's pretty outdated and barely used. I want to change that, but wondered if anyone had any advice on how to start it up again? It hasn't been used for a while, so how do you start off with your first post? Or do you act like you have been there the whole time... probably not the best idea. We don't want to confuse people or look stupid with the first post. I want it to be regularly used for content, community building and demonstrating the personality of the company. Thank you 🙂

Yoast Social Accounts URL Section
Hi When you click: Social within Yoast plugin it defaults to 'Account' tab and displays a list of fields to enter your social media account urls. Sentence above list says: "To inform Google about your social profiles, we need to know their URLs. For each, pick the main account associated with this site and please enter them below" What does that mean exactly and does it effect links on the site etc or literally is just Yoast telling G ? Also if you have sub sites for different language versions (WP on Multi User setup), which in turn have their own language specific social media account versions , should you enter those urls in the sub site language version own Yoast plugin fields OR , as per "...pick the main account associated with this site and please enter them below" use the primary social account and not the language specific social account or just leave them blank ? Many Thanks Dan

Implementing Pinterest On Site and Social Snippets
Hi can someone confirm, does Pinterest use Open Graph Protocol? If you use the Pinterest Widget builder - http://business.pinterest.com/widget-builder/#do_pin_it_button Will the image you place in the widget replace the image Pinterest selects if it does use the Open Graph Protocol? The site already uses Open Graph Protocol for Facebook and Google+. It also uses Twitter cards for twitter. It would be good if we don't need to add more html (such as from the Pinterest widget builder) for Pinterest. -- Matt

Benefits of getting inbound links to your Facebook account to go through your domain?
Hi, I was browsing a magazine recently and came across an advert that had a text of: domain.com.au/facebook When you visit this address you are automatically redirected to their Facebook account. It got me thinking, is there any benefit to this? It's the first time I've seen it and I presume they get links from outside sources to their FB account to go to domain.com.au/facebook rather than facebook.com/sitename Thanks

Social Noise - what counts?
Getting social signals is important it seems now. Is having a facebook comments box on your website where people can comment worth any social noise? if it posts to their facebook page its only seen by their friends, not google. So basically wondering do you get social signals of people commenting on your page in a facebook comments feature?

Should each domain have it's own social media ?
Hi, were in the process of creating multiple domains and sites for each country we plan to operate in, should each site site have it's own set of Facebook, twitter you tube accounts etc? I realise this will create more work in administrating each site and corresponding set of social media accounts, but does it have benefits ? As we'll need to do it anyway in different languages, does separating the English languages accounts make any difference carry any benefits? Thanks,
