Image Search algo changes
-
Just seen the image algo changes that have apparently been put into place in the last 3 months
My spam tester image site didnt seem to feel anything.
Did anyone feel image search change (for better or worse?) And on what dates?
Cheers
Stephen

I posted that message at Cre8 as soon as I saw that the image SERPs were being cleaned. Nothing triggered me to look at image SERPs... I was simply looking at images and noticed that the SERPs had been cleaned.
On that date only the high traffic SERPs had pirated images removed. Now many of the secondary SERPs have improved image results.
I can not tell you that this has brought me extra traffic. I didn't see a traffic lift.

In my SERPs, lots of people were reposting my images on their domains. A couple months ago almost every one of those reposted images disappeared from the SERPs - leaving my images in place. I was really surprised that google did an accurate job of attributing those images to me.

How old is 404 data from Google Search Console?
I was wondering how old the 404 data from Google Search Console actually is? Does anyone know over what kind of timespan their site 404s data is compiled over? How long do the 404s tend to take to disappear from the Google Search Console, once they are fixed?

Best strategy for images filenames?
Hi community! For this case, which would be the best strategy for image filenames? This is a funiture company, with its own brand. What they sell is what they have created and designed Let's think on a kitchen. And we have a page we want to rank for the primary Kw "modern kitchen", and secondaries "white modern kitchen", "modern minimalist kitchen", "modern kitchen designs". Would you use the brand name in the filenames? I mean:

---------- white-modern-kitchen-brandname.jpg
---------- modern-minimalist-kitchen-brandname.jpg
---------- modern-kitchen-brandname.jpg Would you use just the kws in the filename and the brand in the alt text?
---------- filename: white-modern-kitchen.jpg Alt: "White Modern Kitchen, Brand" or should we use the brand in both items: filename and Alt? ¿Which would be the best way to do it in this case? Any suggestions? Thank you!0 -
Should I Roll Back Domain Change?
A couple years ago I changed domain names and switched platforms for my site. The traffic dropped dramatically (80-90%). I've tried to get inbound links changed, clean up on-page stuff, but nothing is making a big change. I think most of the problem is loss of link juice with the 301 redirects from the old domain to the new one. Would I be risking bigger losses by switching back to the old domain name?

Should I change Permalinks?
I have a site that is doing well in rankings, and its also been accepted in to Google news. I have around 800 article live on the site. My current permalink structure is - /%year%/%monthnum%/%postname%/ What I am wondering, would it be better to change it to - /%postname%/ The reason I ask is that most of the well ranking sites and sites built by SEO companies all seem to have the /%postname%/ Will I get a benefit from changing this? I know that I could republish content have the /%postname%/ permalinks. Are there any other benefits? If the is a benefit, I'd perefr to change it as soon as possible before the site grows even more Thanks in advance for anyone who can help

Internal Search / Faceted Navigation
Hi there, I'm working on an e-learning site with the following content pages: main page, category pages, course pages, author pages, tag pages. We will also have an internal search for users to search by keyword for courses & authors & categories. Is it still recommend to "noindex, follow" and disallow in robots.txt internal search results? Or for a site like this, is it better to use faceted navigation? It seems that faceted navigation is mostly for e-commerce sites. What is the latest thinking on SEO best practices for internal search result pages?

Branded Searches -- Should I Name My Products Differently?
I know that branded searches are a large component of whether sites were hit by Panda or not, and I wonder if moving forward, I should always include the name of my site (domain) in the name of the product. For example, if I have a product with a unique name such as 'history maps' should I change the name to include my brand name, i.e '[domain] history maps'? Or, if users search for the unique product name, is that sufficient?

Local Searches done from outside of local area better than searches from within local area
Here's a strange one: I am working on a site for a local business and targeting local searches. The names have been changed to protect the innocent. Various keyword position tools show the site ranking very well for searches like "Anytown Widget Store". Doing the same Google search from a browser in Anytown, the site shows up much lower. So I tried changing the location in Google to other cities, using a variety of browsers and it comes up much higher out of town than in town. I have seen plenty of geographic discrepancies before, but usually they went the other way - searches from the actual local area did slightly better than the same searches done elsewhere, which would make sense. Any thoughts on why this would happen?
