Image Search algo changes
-
Just seen the image algo changes that have apparently been put into place in the last 3 months
My spam tester image site didnt seem to feel anything.
Did anyone feel image search change (for better or worse?) And on what dates?
Cheers
Stephen

I posted that message at Cre8 as soon as I saw that the image SERPs were being cleaned. Nothing triggered me to look at image SERPs... I was simply looking at images and noticed that the SERPs had been cleaned.
On that date only the high traffic SERPs had pirated images removed. Now many of the secondary SERPs have improved image results.
I can not tell you that this has brought me extra traffic. I didn't see a traffic lift.

In my SERPs, lots of people were reposting my images on their domains. A couple months ago almost every one of those reposted images disappeared from the SERPs - leaving my images in place. I was really surprised that google did an accurate job of attributing those images to me.

Malicious Software Warnings in Search Console
google search console said my site failed due to malicious software being hosted. the files creating the problems are behind a username and login gate and are user submitted. the host url is also a subdomain of the main site. unfortunately, catching all malicious files is an unwinable cat and mouse. What is he best seo strategy for this situation?

Search engine submission - Urgent
Is it necessary to submit a new site to search engines? I have a brand-new site I purchased a few days ago which I didn't think to check until after I purchased it, But it has not been indexed by Google!

The domain was registered three months ago, and probably the website wouldn't have been designed until after that.
But I'm still left puzzling why the site is not indexed by Google. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.0 -
Disadvantages of linking to uncompressed images?
Images are compressed and resized to fit into an article, but each image in the article links to the original file - which in some cases is around 5Mb. The large versions of the images are indexed in Google. Does this decrease the website's crawl budget due to the time spent downloading the large files? Does link equity disappear through the image links? Either way I don't think it's a very good user experience if people click on the article images to see the large images - there's no reason for the images to be so large. Any other thoughts? Thanks. 🙂

Good Morning America Appearance - Search Rankings Down
We had some products on the Steals and Deals segment of Good Morning America. The same day we received a message from Google in Webmaster Tools (below). The message says that search result clicks have increased significantly. It seems like this was almost a warning that they were not sure this was valid. The promotion included a link from the good morning america site on yahoo to a subdomain on our site. The rankings have fallen a good little bit since and in Webmaster tools, there are no links to our site listed and no internal links and no content keywords for the site. Is this is a temporary freeze on our site until they figure out if this is manipulative? I would have thought a link from Good Morning America would be great for SEO. Search results clicks for http://www.justjen.com/ have increased significantly. This message is not indicative of any problem in your site. It is simply to inform you that the number of clicks that one of your pages receives has increased recently. If you have just added new content, this may indicate that it has become more popular on Google. The number of clicks that your site receives from Google can change from day to day for a variety of factors, including automatic algorithm updates.

Redesign Launch with change from ASP to PHP
My client is launching a new corporate website redesign. But the trick is, their old site was built in ASP and they want the new site to be a Wordpress site, built in PHP. Their current website has A PR4/10 and MANY backlinks to its pages. I don't want to risk any SEO authority and make sure the transition is smooth. The current site only has less than 75 pages. Can anyone give me a checklist of things I need to make sure get done? And how to do each? For example: 1. How to forward the old domain to new URLs... (301s? DNS? HT Access?..not savvy) 2. Keep all the same URLs? 3. Don't change any content?...etc. 4. Submit new sitemap? or robots.txt file? Also, I wanted to add a Wordpress Blog to the new site for SEO purposes, but since it's being built in Wordpress, do you recommend I have a subdomain on this site as www.blog.website.com? Or is this now not necessary since the entire thing is built in wordpress? I would REALLY appreciate your time helping me on this. Thanks! Derek

Soft Hyphenation: Influence on Search Engines
Does anyone have experience on soft hyphenation and its effects on rankings? We are planning to use in our company blog to improve the layout. Currently, every word above 4 syllable will be soft hyphenated.
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | zeepartner
This seems to render okay in all browsers, but it might be a problem with IE9... In HTML 5, the "" soft hyphenation seems to be replaced with the <wbr> Tag (http://www.w3schools.com/html5/tag_wbr.asp) and i don't find anything else about soft-hyphenation in the specs. Any experiences or opinions about this? Do you think it affects rankings if there are a lot of soft hyphens in the text? Does it still make sense to use or would you switch to <wbr> already?0 -
What To Do For A Website That is Mainly Images
I have a website that is a desktop wallpaper script. People can come and upload 100's of wallpapers to share with the community. This is were the problems comes in. Files are normally called 27636dark.jpg or whatever and come with no description. This leads to 2 things. no text content that google can use to know what the page/image is about. Meta descriptions, URL's just look like spam. Example: /car-wallpapers/7636dark.jpg If a text description was added, it would still only be like "Green Trees in the distance". Which as you may guess, with 1,000's of wallpapers... would end up having a lot of descriptions the same. Is there any advice for sites that focus on image driven content?
