How to handle 2 domains pointing to the same server.
-
My client has 2 domains which point to the same sever. eg a.com and b.com both point to the same place.
For now a.com has better seo but the client wants to switch to using b.com more.
Im guessing 301 redirects will not work in this case.
How would I handle this?
If i'm forced to manage both domains, what is the best practice for monitoring in seomoz pro. Should i set up a.com as a competitor?

Thanks for the response ipullrank, but domains point to the same content. So i took you advice and did the 301. Here is what i used.
Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine onRewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www.newdomain.com
RewriteRule (.*) http://www.newdomain.com/$1 [R=301,L] -
Hey Darren,
I'm not quite clear what you mean by the same server. If you're saying both domains point to the same content in the same folder in a virtual hosting environment and it's a question of duplicate content I would definitely suggest just 301 redirecting the domain on an .htaccess level and calling it a day.
If what you're saying is that the 2 domains share the same hosting environment but are in separate directories with separate content and you're worried that since they are on the same IP address then yes the problem is slightly more complicated. I would suggest moving the 2nd domain to a different C-block and then 301 redirecting it. Another thing to think about here is...are these domains registered privately or are they registered to the same person? Many SEOs believe this tends to affect rankings.
As far as monitoring in SEOmoz pro I would set them up as competitors to compare linking metrics but as far as crawling give each domain their own campaign.

Web Stie STUCK on page 2 for 2years
Our website is a dating site for adults (not porn) (http://www.swingersocial.com) It’s been STUCK in the middle of page 2 for 1 ½ years. Moving up or down 2 ranking, that’s it. The way we determine our location is by entering the most common phrases used by people who search for our type of site. We surveyed 50+ people and the phrases they most frequently entered when using Google were “swingers websites” “swingers sites” and “free swingers sites”. In addition to our competitors ranking above us, they show “movement” in their rankings up & or down. Some even dropped to page 2 but they recovered – we are not seeing the same movement or recovery. Pages crawled on have remained virtually unchanged for months. The last 1 ½ years we have hired SEO companies, and as a result a great deal of effort has been put into the site. We are not naïve and realize some were better than others. We’ve invested a great deal of effort into content, key words, modifying tags, and throughout all of this we’ve seen no change. We had a detailed audit suggesting improvements (no surprise), the report overall was positive stating “There are a few things to do to optimize the site but looking at the keywords, SwingerSocial.com should be able to rank high.” We also implemented a blog area with over 70 blog posts. Our competitors on the other hand have only two blog posts and are continually ranking higher than us. Additionally, our competitors do not have sites on Pinterest, G+, FB, or Twitter – we have a presence on some of these. I do know that the number and quality of links are terrible. I’m looking for a partner to help us make strategic changes to the site that will allow us to rank higher.

How do Moz tools handle signs for "PHRASE" and [EXACT MATCH] KW queries?
Hello, As some of my projects are in competitive niche markets, I often chase exact match KW to handle with. However, when using 'Moz >> Keyword Difficulty Report' I'm getting SAME Search Volume result - regardless using broad match, phrase or exact match KWs. Have I missed something? Ranking result's and are however different and seems to correspond to different type of KW search ( which type of KW all its. Please share some light on this.

OK I'll try again.... Linking root domains and external links
I'm new to the crawl test tool, I think I know what is meant by external links and linking root domains but I need to check. If there are 500 external links and 50 linking root domains does that suggest the essentially those 500 links are coming from 50 root domains? If yes, then what would 1000 linking root domains and 100 links mean? Or am I completely wrong in my assumptions and if so, can somebody point me in the right direction? Thank you.

How do OpensiteExplorer handle HTTPS pages?
For historical reason my entire site (https://www.banknorwegian.no ) is in )HTTPS. I am trying to use opensiteexplorer to get a linkprofile. But then I only get the links that point to www.banknorwegian.no (without https://) . Is it possible to use it for https pages? Also, I assume some of the same problem arise when I use the keyword difficulty tool. The pages I have show up in the result, but they have a Page Authority that has to be made from just links to the http version.

Can someone explain to me why OSE shows two different numbers for Linking Root Domains in the header and in the results area?
See Photo Below. 271 in the header, 500 plus in the results section. I just want an accurate number to chart my progress from here on out. Majestic numbers seem inflated too much. Google Webmaster Tools too. g58HX.png

Batch lookup domain authority on list of URL's?
I found this site the describes how to use excel to batch lookup url's using seomoz api. The only problem is the seomoz api times out and returns 1 if I try dragging the formula down the cells which leaves me copying, waiting 5 seconds and copying again. This is basically as slow as manually looking up each url. Does anyone know a workaround?
