How important is the relevance of a link compared to its authority?
-
Would be interested on some perspectives on link relevancy versus page and domain authority in terms of importance for SERP. How important is the relevance of the site linking back compared to the page and domain authority of that site
-
IMO
Relevancy is much more important. of cause the best is to have both. but think like a search engine, they want to see wujho is recomeneding you for a subject. A relevant link in the content is hard to beat. i non relevant link in the footer is priobably worthless.
-
Let's take one isolated example.
If we start blog or educational website on topic "How to build home-made hand clock", which is very non-popular topic with specialized sphere, this could easy rank our website with the contents only itself. This is the case when there is no other pages in SERP on "home made hand clock".
If there is some other websites, our ranking would be little more slow and hard, but just a few links could do the job.
I have always thought about links, grouped into 2 directions.
Relative links.
Some forum about hand-made clocks or hand made stuff appears on the Net. One link could show up to our website. The forum has low Domain Authority and other metrics. This is very fine with the schema that Google likes, right?
Non relative links
Lets say we find with some tools links to our website about home-made clocks. We will check the link and it appears to be not so relative.
Cases with the non relative links are mostly 2:
- Where they came from
- And for what reason
What website can put link to our home made clocks?
Some very popular forum maybe, very popular blog owner, maybe some general web directories. Cases that are fine and real are always OK. We can think about lot of such cases if we are creative.
News magazine website or travel website may put link with no reason and it is not natural.
High authority links are welcome to help with ranking with hard keywords and phrases. But when they are for reason. They are like an chocolate on the cake. Help to rank on the custommer eye in the store ...
Relevant links build the keywords, the site topics and its relevance.
So these are the important cases for me. Relevant cases and authority only with reason
I hope I helped with my ideas

Internal links: How do I find keywords that are not linked to a URL?
Hi Moz members I'd really like to place an internal link of every instance of an important keyword phrase "cycling caps" or "cycling cap" to my eComm category page

https://www.prendas.co.uk/collections/headwear/cotton-caps I feel this would not only help my customers browsing my store, but I believe it will help from an SEO perspective. How can I search my site using Moz, Screaming Frog, Google etc to find every time cycling cap(s) is used but is not linked to the above URL? I can then apply the same for cycling jerseys, socks, etc Andy0 -
Does This Link Have Value?
Hi Mozzers, A client paid to publish a white paper, thinking that the link to the web site is beneficial. The link does redirect back to the web site, but is in a format that I've never seen: http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001YdyyLrzOQJxM87SJZkJYVbQKSdCmFpwqg1fuX3yqVqpGboUjdSaHv9IdW5HsQpgmvwOrg5N4T3DNHYV8e1UVe_YCua_XQCFykoSJvu1HzDyb-3x-aFcPU-ER-vwWxq4- Does this link have any value?

Link Detox and Link Removal
I have a question about which links to remove after running a link detox from Link Research Tools. First a little back story. I had had an SEO company link building for one of the websites I own. But I have recently stopped working with them. In the last month my rankings have near dropped off the charts. I have just recently gotten access to Google webmaster tools and noticed an unnatural link warning from back in March. So yesterday I ran link detox and it reported 19 toxic links, 120 suspicious links, and 24 healthy links. It's rather obvious that I should remove all of the toxic links. They all from sites that have been deindexed by google. But my question is a about the suspicious links. What should my criteria be for removing them? Am I better off removing them all and leaving my site with only 24 healthy links or should I personally comb through them and remove only the worst of the worst so that I leave my site with a few more links? I'd really like to get the site ready to resubmit to google as soon as I can. Thoughts? yyCOf.png

Relevance or Authority for Links
Which one do you weigh more than the other? I prefer high-authority sites over low-authority but relevant sites/pages personally. From my experience, non-relevant'authoritative' websites/pages tend to have a bigger impact than 'relevant' websites/pages. What do you think? What is your experience?

Linking articles to each other
I've been using white-hat article marketing to post original content about my niche to credible article directories (yes, I realize many of them were recently devalued). My question is: Is it a good or bad idea to have future articles link to older articles, as a way to increase the chances of having the older articles indexed, or increasing the amount of link juice they pass to my site (since they point to my site)? I get 2 links per article and was thinking of using 1 to point to a prior (related) article, and the other to point to my site.
