Bandcamp subdomain
-
I have a website - www.weddingmusicproject.com that is doing quite well. However, we have all of the actual music listed on weddingmusicproject.bandcamp.com and have a number of very powerful pages there (bandcamp is a great product by the way). Is there a strong benefit to our domain's authority if we move our "bandcamp" site onto our own subdomain using their custom domain option - http://bandcamp.com/faq_custom_domains - Something like music.weddingmusicproject.com. I seem to think that it would increase our overall domain authority, but it wouldn't increase the number of inbound links or anything. If anything it would decrease the number of linking domains and bandcamp is quite a powerful site so those links would just turn into internal links. Thoughts? I know this is probably a basic concept, but I've thought it over a number of times and can't come to a conclusion.

When you list a domain in WMT you get access to the stats from the subdomain, but if someone else verifies the subdomain then WMT no longer gives you access to the subdomain stats. Now there was no mention that this is the case with domain authority but it is my guess it is.
Some sites that had users content of low quality suffered from the panda update, Matt Cutts suggested moving user content to subdomains to separate content. It is my belief that sites that give other users a subdomain as bandcamp.com do do not share domain authority because users list their subdomain in WMT and analytics and stuff. But on your own site you will get domain authority from one to the other.
So in short I would move to your own domain, I don’t think you would be getting anything from bandcamp ,and I think you will from your own domain.

Removing site subdomains from Google search
Hi everyone, I hope you are having a good week? My website has several subdomains that I had shut down some time back and pages on these subdomains are still appearing in the Google search result pages. I want all the URLs from these subdomains to stop appearing in the Google search result pages and I was hoping to see if anyone can help me with this. The subdomains are no longer under my control as I don't have web hosting for these sites (so these subdomain sites just show a default hosting server page). Because of this, I cannot verify these in search console and submit a url/site removal request to Google. In total, there are about 70 pages from these subdomains showing up in Google at the moment and I'm concerned in case these pages have any negative impacts on my SEO. Thanks for taking the time to read my post.

Affects of multiple subdomains on homebrew CDN for images
We're creating our own CDN such that instead of serving images from http://mydomain.com/images/shoe.jpg It will appear at all of the following subdomains: http://cdn1.mydomain.com/images/shoe.jpg http://cdn2.mydomain.com/images/shoe.jpg http://cdn3.mydomain.com/images/shoe.jpg http://cdn4.mydomain.com/images/shoe.jpg Image tags on our pages will randomly choose any subdomain for the src. The thought was this will make page loading faster by paralellizing requests across many cookie-less domains. How does this affect : -Ranking of images on Google image search. -Ranking of pages they appear on -Domain authority (images are linked to heavily in our social media efforts, so we will 301 redirect image urls to cdn1.mydomain.com) Should we disallow all but one CDN domain in robots.txt? Will robots.txt on an image only subdomain even be retrieved? Should we just use 1 CDN subdomain instead?

Best Way To Clean Up Unruly SubDomain?
Hi, I have several subdomains that present no real SEO value, but are being indexed. They don't earn any backlinks either. What's the best way of cleaning them up? I was thinking the following: 1. Verify them all in Webmaster Tools. 2. Remove all URLs from the index via the Removal Tool in WMT 3. Add site-wide no-index, follow directive. Also, to remove the URLs in WMT, you usually have to block the URLs via /robots.txt. If I'd like to keep Google crawling through the subdomains and remove their URLs, is there a way to do so?

Directing traffic to subdomain
Hi everyone, For this question, please note that we will be directing traffic using a load balancer (an Amazon ELB, to be specific) rather than using a 301 redirect. The question: Will the SEO ranking of links to pages be negatively impacted by directing traffic to servers with a different hostname (or subdomain) within mycompany.com? For example, we would like to have www.mycompany.com load balanced between host1.mycompany.com and host2.mycompany.com. Many thanks for your input! Jay

Blogs are best when hosted on domain, subdomain, or...?
I’ve heard the it is a best practice to host your blog within your site. I’ve also heard it’s best to put it on a subdomain. What do you believe is the best home for your blog and why?

E-commerce solution and subdomain issues
Hello All,
Technical SEO | | CherieP
In light of Wil Reynold's closing keynote at Portland's Searchfest, I thought I might try posting here to get some advice. We run a family business on the side and we're looking at starting to use volusion.com for our e-commerce solution. The catch is we currently have a wordpress site summitmining.com running on thesis with great SEO. Ranking #1 & #2 for our highest trafficked terms. Ideally, I'd like Summitmining.com to direct to the Volusion store and then summitmining.com/blog to go to our wordpress installation BUT since the volusion site will be hosted with the company and they will not host our wordpress installation we'd have to use a subdomain instead of a subdirectory which I understand will be bad for SEO. Does anyone have any recommendation on how to set this up without totally screwing up our ranking OR any recommendations of an easy to use shopping cart (I've worked on a magento site before and it's too complex for us) that wouldn't require a separate or subdomain? Thank you so much!

Moving subdomain ? How to ?
Hi all. I've purchased a domain name two years ago with the idea to offer wide range of services. I've also created a sub-domain providing specific service for highly competitive keyword. Sadly plans went wrong and I didn't use the root domain name at all, just the sub-domain providing that service. There aren't much links to that sub-domain, but all are quality links, until recently I've managed to keep positions between 5 and 7 without any effort, but yesterday I saw that it's dropped to 9. The question is, before I start to build links and write articles to get back up my domain, is it worth to move that sub-domain to my original root domain. As I said, there aren't much links to that sub-domain, it only has pagerank1, also for the last year the original root domain was redirected (301) to the sub-domain to not loose traffic and I'm scared if I reverse this procedure and redirect my sub-domain to the root domain that Google will get confused. It's a tricky question I know 🙂

SEO-MOZ bar question on root vs subdomain / canonicalization issues
When I look at the SEO-MOZ bar for our site and click next to subdomain (# links from #domains) it shows my main incoming links etc. but when I click on root domain ity shows mydomain/default.asp and 4 incoming links as well as a message that says this url redirects to another url. Does this imply canonicalization issues or is there a 301 redirect to my non /default.asp correcting this issue. Thanks kindly, Howard
