Indexed pages in Google webmaster tools
-
Hi Mozzers,
Very quick question. Google WM tools interface has updated and I want to confirm I'm looking at the correct figure.
If I look up 'Your site on the web' / 'search queries' / then the 'pages' - this is correct indexation figure yes?
This differs from the 'site:' command but that's always the case.
Can anyone confirm,
Thanks

Thanks Guys

As fair as I know, there is no other equivalent of this value. You should wait 1-2 days, usually big G is fast at checking the sitemaps and showing up some relevant data.
Also you can now test your sitemap data with the GWT so it will benefit from more than 1 part your work if you submit your sitemaps.
Cheers!

Thanks guys - what if the sitemap has not been indexed yet? Its not been submitted so is there not an equivalent of the 'site:' command in WM tools with no sitemap submitted?
cheers

Hi Gareth
Those, to my knowledge, are only the pages which received impressions (appeared in Google search results) and only for the last month. This is not the number of pages Google has indexed.
Using the site: command like you mentioned is the best way to get the number of pages indexed. Also, if you've submitted an XML sitemap to webmaster tools and you know its complete, WMT will tell you how many pages out of your sitemap are has indexed.

Hi Gareth,
If you want to check the number of indexed pages in Google then go to:
site configuration -> sitemaps
There you will have URLs submitted and URLs in web index.
I hope that helped,
Istvan

Ad server not indexed
Hello guys, My client is using an ad server (not sure if i am allowed to tell which one so I will not for now) installed at ads.clientsite.com. It is using noindex, nofollow for preventing Google to index it but also it is blocking like 90 000 other pages on clientsite.com to be indexed/crawled. The guy that applied the noindex tag it is no longer here so I cannot ask him about the logic behind those noindex tags. How big could be the damage to clientsite.com if I will remove the noindex tag from the ad server (ads.clientsite.com? If needed I can PM you the ad server platform we are using, Regards, Ed

Unique Pages with Thin Content vs. One Page with Lots of Content
Is there anyone who can give me a definitive answer on which of the following situations is preferable from an SEO standpoint for the services section of a website? 1. Many unique and targeted service pages with the primary keyword in the URL, Title tag and H1 - but with the tradeoff of having thin content on the page (i.e. 100 words of content or less). 2. One large service page listing all services in the content. Primary keyword for URL, title tag and H1 would be something like "(company name) services" and each service would be in the H2 title. In this case, there is lots of content on the page. Yes, the ideal situation would be to beef up content for each unique pages, but we have found that this isn't always an option based on the amount of time a client has dedicated to a project.

Home page keyword effecting internal page ranking
Hello, My client has a second keyword for the home page that is competitive. The home page is not being ranked for this keyword. Instead, an internal category page is ranking. This internal category page is more relevant than the home page - it shows the categories for the actual products that this term refers to. But everyone around us in Google's page results has far more backlinks than the internal page, and we're all heavily optimized for this term. My question is, is it safe to pull the second term off of the home page or is this internal page strong because it is somehow being strengthened by the home page optimization?

How to make google not index quotes from other sites?
Hey guys, I have a site where we post quite a lot of info from other sites. We don't want google to de-index our pages because parts of it are quotes from other sites. What would you use to make it so Google sees it's a quote from another site? Or to just make Google not index the quote? Thanks!

E-Commerce product pages that have multiple skus with unique pages.
Hey Guys, With the recent farm/panda update from google i'm at a cross roads as to how I should optimize product pages for a project i'm working on for a client. My client sells tires and one particular tire brand can have up to 15 models and each model can have up to 30 sizes. IE: 'Michelin Pilot Sport Cup' comes in 15 different sizes. Each size will have it's unique product page and description bringing me to my question. Should I use the same description on every size? I do plan on writting unique content for each tire model however i'm not sure if I should do it for every size. After all the tire model description is the same for every size, each size doesn't carry any unique characteristics that I can describe. Thanks in advance!
