How to make Google forget my pages ?
-
Hello all !
I've decided to delete many pages from my website wich had poor content.
I've made a php 301 redirect from all these old pages to a unique page (not the home page, a deep page).
My problem is that this modification has been made a week ago and my position in the SERPs have crashed down...
What can I do ? I believe that I'll get up again when Google will see that these pages don't exist anymore but it could take a long time (these page are in the Google cache with a date older than my modification's date)
I've read somewhere that I should put a link to the destination page (where old pages are 301 redirected) but I don't understand how it could help...
Can someone help me ? Tell me what I've done wrong...
These pages were very poor and I've deleted them in order to boost the global quality of my site... It should help me in the SERPs, not penalize me...

Yeah... I know that I've juste removed BL to my home page (for example).
But these pages were really poor I and I believe that my website is cleaner now... It should please Google now, better than before.
I just hope that it will compensate the bad pages removal.

Yea, they're not going to let you bog down their server with that many requests! LOL
I was unaware of the 1000s of pages and URLs you now want redirected. And if those pages had links going to your other pages, you've officially removed any link juice they were providing for one another which would impact your rank. Page A to Page B and so on...
Good luck!!!

There are thousands and thousands pages...
I already use GWT and that's not the right way for so many pages...

If you are completely removing these pages, you also want them removed from the search engine directories. Google has Webmaster Tools to do this, and you also have to update robots.txt so the search engines will stop trying to crawl pages that do not exist anymore.
This may help: http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=164734
Not sure about the "other guys". With Microsoft creating Bing and taking over Yahoo, I'm not sure they're up to snuff yet. However, Bing does have Webmaster Tools as well (http://www.bing.com/toolbox/webmaster/), but I haven't played around with all of its features just yet.
Hope this helps!!!

Reviews not pulling through to Google My Business page
OK, a local SEO question! We are working with a plumbing company. A search for (Google UK) shows the knowledge panel with 20+ reviews. This is good! However, if you search for "plumbers norwich" and look at the map, thecompany is on the third page and has no reviews. I've logged into Google My Business, and it says the profile is not up to date and only 70% complete with no reviews. This is odd, as there was a fully complete profile recently. Any ideas on how best to reconcile the two? Thanks!

How to Get Google to Recognize Your Pages Are Gone
Here's a quick background of the site and issue. A site lost half of its traffic over 18 months ago and its believed to be a Panda penalty. Many, many items were already taken care of and crossed off the list, but here's something that was recently brought up. There are 30,000 pages indexed in Google, but there are about 12,000 active products. Many of these pages in their index are out of stock items. A site visitor cannot find them by browsing the site unless he/she had bookmarked and item before, was given the link by a friend, read about it, etc. If they get to an old product because they had a link to it, they will see an out of stock graphic and not allow to make the purchase. So, efforts have been made about 1 month ago to 301 old products to something similar, if possible, or 410 them. Google has not been removing them from the index. My question is how to make sure Google sees that these pages are no longer there and remove from the index? Some of the items have links to them and this will help Google see them, but what about the items which have 0 external / internal links? Thanks in advance for your assistance. In working on a site which has about 10,000 items available for sale. Looking in G

NOINDEX listing pages: Page 2, Page 3... etc?
Would it be beneficial to NOINDEX category listing pages except for the first page. For example on this site: http://flyawaysimulation.com/downloads/101/fsx-missions/ Has lots of pages such as Page 2, Page 3, Page 4... etc: http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Aflyawaysimulation.com+fsx+missions Would there be any SEO benefit of NOINDEX on these pages? Of course, FOLLOW is default, so links would still be followed and juice applied. Your thoughts and suggestions are much appreciated.

Does Google count links on a page or destination URLs?
Google advises that sites should have no more than around 100 links per page. I realise there is some flexibility around this which is highlighted in this article: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/questions-answers-with-googles-spam-guru One of Google's justifications for this guideline is that a page with several hundred links is likely to be less useful to a user. However, these days web pages are rarely 2 dimensional and usually include CSS drop--down navigation and tabs to different layers so that even though a user may only see 60 or so links, the source code actually contains hundreds of links. I.e., the page is actually very useful to a user. I think there is a concern amongst SEO's that if there are more than 100ish links on a page search engines may not follow links beyond those which may lead to indexing problems. This is a long winded way of getting round to my question which is, if there are 200 links in a page but many of these links point to the same page URL (let's say half the links are simply second ocurrences of other links on the page), will Google count 200 links on the page or 100?
